Yes, check your appliances that you were using at the time the power went out and turn them off. Get out flashlites and candles for later if it doesn't come on.
If you have a well, plan on not flushing to toliet until needed.
If it is raining collect rain water to bucket flush the toliet.
There are all sorts of things to do...
the Don'ts are Dont open the frig or freezer until you have to.
Don't leave candles unattended.
Don't leave home if you can help it... you want to be there when the power comes back on.
Finally, Turn off the computer and save your battery.
Warm hugs...

Thanks... Ok. Got everything out. Water is still running. I have two other laptops so I don't think I'll worry about the battery. Is that it? Gah, why did it have to be 83 degrees?

Is it just your house, or is the whole neighborhood blacked out?
If it's just your house, it may be a fuse or something of that matter.
If it's the whole neighbor, if you have phone acess, call the light company.

Fill your tub with water. If the pump stations loose power too, your fresh water supply may go down. Better to be safe than sorry.

I think I'm just one of 4 million with the light out. Darn Frances!! I also think the light company already knows.

even though you may have other laptops or spare batteries, try to ration your time. play cards or read while light permits. if you have jugs or empty pop bottles, then fill those up with water, too. Based on the size of the issue, you may want to start rationing your water intake. keep track of what you do take in. try to stay away from tea and pop, as these act against your body in staying hydrated. other than that, talk to people nearby, as this is one of the best defenses against boredom. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help ya. We are all sending energy to ya. Good Luck and Goddess Bless.

Help is on the way for those out of electricity in Florida. Usually the day before a hurricane is expected to strike, teams of electric companies from other states will sit out the storm in a neighboring state until it is over. One of my friends is there right now for exactly that reason. Say hi to the Chain Electric people from Louisiana if you see any!

The tub is a great idea for future reference...just clean it out well first so the water can be used for more things than just toliets and wash ups. :D Glad you were only on electrical "rations" for just a short time.... Take care.
