MM-
I am Wiccan and have a pretty strong understanding of most feelings and beliefs of other wiccans, but I have a ?
If we believe in the Wiccan Rede which states "Do what ye will, but harm none", how do we feel about body modifications (ie tattoos, piercings...)? I understand that the Wiccan Rede not only refers to others and all living things but also ourselves. I myself have 2 tattoos (and my third will be a pentacle), and 12 piercings (11 ear, 1 navel, and plan on getting my nose pierced). So technically a tattoo or a piercing would be harming yourself. Any opinions?

I have no problem with body modifications. I just wish folks would take better care of the ones they get on themselves, that's my only real beef.
I don't have piercings, but I have three tattoos. I'll revive the tattoo thread for you.

very good question......
I myself have 2 tattoos and 5 piercings.
The only thing I say is if it feels good to you then how can it be harm. Weather anyone want to admit it or not if you get more than one of each then you enjoy it .
Also in some cultures piercings and tats are a right of passage and they dont belive it is harm either.
Hope this helps.

well i'm not wiccan... but i'm not exactly anything really.
your body is a just a shell, in my opinion, your skin there to protect your inner "machine" from harm.
what you do to adorn yourself is your choice.
there are plenty of non-toxic inks, and hypoallergenic metals.
you're not doing much more harm than walking in the inner city during rush hour and breathing.

Now that's a scarey thought; you may be doing a lot more harm by taking that walk, especially breathing that air ... ick!

I have no problem with body modification. Especially since I have three piercings in my left ear, two in my right and one in my toung. Soon I'm getting my nose pierced, then my eyebrow, my belly button and eventually more piercings in my ears.
I currently don't have any tattoos but have plans for a celtic arm band with the triple goddess symbol at the center on each arm. I also have plans to get something across my lower back similar to the arm bands.
So nope, I definitely don't have problems with body modification, hehe.

As my favorite tattoo shop here in town says,
"Your body is a temple.. we're just here to decorate it."

I believe "harm none" refers to the use of magick.
I can see how it can be looked at from another angle but piercings and tattoos - which, for the record, I have both - are not harming anyone. I entered into the studio willingly and as for pain I do not feel there was much.

It's all about the pain, the ink and metal are just souvenirs.

Merry Meet Princiess!
I don't believe that piercings, tattoos or other modifications to the body have anything to do with the Rede, in my understanding. I have a pierced navel and have had an "enhancement", cough cough. It doesn't harm anybody, and no problems with them - piercings and all. :D

6 piercings....used to be 7, but I took out the uh......other one. On my way to getting a tatoo. My brother is a tatoo enthusiast and I often go to body art shows. He has one full sleave and half another sleave. He's not one for piercings though. I like both...but not tooooo many. Just here and oh...there.
I don't know if it goes with the rede or not...though I think it applies to more than magick.
But, I'm not a follower of the rede specifically anyhow. Though I do respect it. :D

I have 4 tats and 3 ear piercings and a nasal septum piercing. They did not harm me. They hurt a bit but there was no harm. The Rede IMHO is not that black and white either.
