Hello all. This community is very positive and encouraging. Like breath of fresh air.
Anyway . . .
I'm not sure that I would describe myself as pagan. I won't know for a long time. I identify with the closeness to nature, etc. but most definitions of "pagan" refer to the worship of god/goddess or other deitys and that's really not for me. Nor do I believe in magick, astrology, tarot or similar practices/concepts.
Another definition I read was "non-Abramic" religions (ie. anyone but Christians, Muslims or Jews).
I heard someone describe themself as a "secular pagan" once. Interesting . . .
I guess I don't have a specific question or anything, but I'm just interested in any other comments about why people call themselves pagan.

I don't call myself pagan, per se, but I don't reject the label either. I'm a Witch. To me....a pagan is one who embraces the Old Ways. I do embrace them, but I also combine them with what I know and believe now. I don't worship Athena or Brigit, exactly, but I will use those names if the type of energy I seek is associated with them. Its more like a focus than a worship, to me.
Annnyway, I'm rambling and not making much sense :)

Hail and Welcome!!!
I know what you mean, Faerie, some of those paths are not the right ones for me either.
You might like to visit the Druid forum, I think it may interest you. I've found Druidry to be the closest thing to what I've been practising all my life; nature based, but without the spells.

Thanks ladyrowan, I'll look into that. I haven't read much about druidry (except in Arthurian novels ;)).
I think I may end up going completely my own way in the end; we'll see.

I've always thought that's a pretty good way to go :)
That's very much the Pagan way, no 'rule book' to follow, and everyone's got their own way of doing things.

Welcome ...
Pull up a comfy chair and have some lemonade. Whatever you are is just another ingredient in our little soup. :)
We are all different here and that is what makes us what we are.

I'm a Pagan and a Witch. I work with energies in the physical sense. I may access energies by working with archetypes (ie. Aphrodite for Love, Hera for feminine energy, Hecate for mystery, Rosemerta for abundance) but I don't worship deities. I work to positively affect my life and those of people whom I care about. I love animals, consider nature part of myself, and respect people of other religions. Uhm so that's me :)

It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO nice to know that I am not alone in my questioning! I don't know what I am either...(maybe a little more simple than pure!) hehehehe:D:D:D:D
BUT, it is somehow conforting to know that there are others out there searching like I am!
~I know the truth is out there, but I am usually looking in the opposite direction, and miss it!~

I consider myself a pagan and a witch. I'm new to the practice, but when I read books and articles, I realized that this is the way I want my life to go. I do beleive in Magick and Tarot. My best friend started my life in this direction. I was having a problem and she did a tarot reading and she was right on the money!! I have not doubted her since and we work together to become stronger. Good Luck!!

I have been called an avatar of Belinus/The Dagda and I have had readers tell me I was surrounded by dragons and a white hawk.
I've gone from being an eclectic spiritualist to being a witch, to a Gwyddon, and now I consider myself merely a creature of the cosmos.

This question is just like the question, Who do you think you are?
I have not label myself into a group, still looking around alot. I am finding that I am closest to Irish/Celtic ways, also have been drawn to the Eastern ways, buddism, taoism, natural balance.....
I am like the song.... I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a sister....

being green. :)
i've learned (for the sake of explaining to those folks not 'in the know') that it is often much easier to describe the way that i am by ticking off things that i'm not.
but since nobody here seems very ignorant, i'll simply say that i identify myself as pagan because i believe what starhawk said:
"there are as many different kinds of paganism as there are pagans."
i try to save the world a little every day. that is how i worship.

. . . I am me!
I am many many things. . . . female, a person, strong, beautiful, slightly-loud-mouthed 8O , young, old, a novice, a not-so-novice, naive, not quite as naieve as I seem, a student, a sister, a friend, someday a mother.. .. . I am many many things.
Pagan? yep. But the thing you need to remember about paganism - it's not just one thing!
My definition of pagan is that you're someone who doesn't really follow one of the "mainstream" religions. You're not Christian, Jewish, or Muslim. You may or may not belive in a god/dess (or more than one). You may or may not practice/belive in magick. You may or may not belive in/worship/know a number of things. . . . I think what being pagan is, is finding your own path.
And if it makes you happy, and it feels right to you. . .
Then that's wonderful. And don't give it up. ^_^
also - WELCOME!!!!! Both of you! ^.^

I call myself a Pagan and a Witch, even though every definition of each probably differs slightly from everyone else's. :)

I'm a witch with a capital 'B' (just kidding) ;)
Who I know I am... Absolutely without a doubt: Aquarius/Dragon!
My religion is all my own. I attend a Wiccan church and a Unitarian Universalist church. Neither is my idea of a perfect religion. I don't believe in one. I just do what comes natural.
