Oh, cool. I will know more about my November availability in the next few days. For now all i know is that 30-31 is taken (probably in Boston). and i have a meetingsomewhere (literally, likely either the US or Europe ) sometime else in November, probably early to mid. So I wil try to steer it more towards mid....

Well, somewhere near the Limes would suit me personally so I could visit museums in the area :)

it's a roman wall thingy. i've had a look on the net, there are quite a few museums all along the limes. the most interesting-looking one i've seen so far is the one at Aalen. wherever that is, i'll have to find out. then i'll phone em up tomorrow, just to make sure they have english language tours and explainations on the exponates.

some german, some spanish, neither especially well. it's been a long time since i studied spanish, and i use it so seldom here that when i try to think of things in spanish, i often come up with german words when i have to pause to think.

you know, i had a look-around, and i found two museums in smaller towns, one of them is closed from october through march. and the other one was i think a temporary exhibition, but they said most of their stuff is in the römisch-germanisches museum in cologne.
cologne would be cool for me, though. either that, or avebury sounds really cool! though i went there just last month, i'll happily go again!

Easyjet from Bristol airport to Nice airport is 2 hours 5 minutes. To give an example. Easyjet quotes a web fare of about 85 quid one way, but it varies wildly.
However, BA is more competitive right now - they are listing between 18 and 29 quid to Amsterdam for example (from Heathrow, though, not from Bristol), depending on the day. Need to add on the Bristol to London though (2 hours on the M4)

Or you could get a train from Bristol Temple Meads at, say, 08:10 on the Saturday arriving at Heathrow 10:25 which is fine for an 11:30 or later flight... no parking, train direct to the terminal. Just a thought.

I was crying because I can't go to the meetup ... so don't let my preference influence things. Pick somewhere that suits other people.
Since this was first discussed in early September, prices for flights have shot up. I had a quick look on British Airways, Air France and Swissair and its €350-450 now - eek. Lufthansa is a little cheaper and has direct flights but its still 300.

Namaste,
you are absolutely right, ' Hexenturm ' does mean witches tower but because of southwest Germany being one of the worst regions during the Burning Times, I fear its no "nice happy place" and rather a dark spot in Ladenburgs colourful history. It is the tower where "heathens" were kept for starving :(
Oh well.

regarding the flight, arent there alternative flights possible ? Raynair isnt the only one. If you give me your region, be it by PM, I maybe could look up for you - after all, nearby where I live is a small airport that has their own little cheapo-line, just two destinations but who knows , maybe we find a solution ?
last not least: where do i get a list of shortcuts for the smileys ?

I searched for Nicce - Stuttgart /Germany an found the following:
nicce-stuttgart; 1 adult
65,00 € flight

there will probably be another from intestine-ville.
how about one on oct 30, and another on nov 13? that would give our farther away people more time to plan, and those of us with other commitments might be able to go then also.
sounds reasonable to me

yes, inside the building there is a little courtyard, on the street level. there is a book shop and a florist there.
i will post my picture on the community photo albums. post back here if you can't find it, and bear in mind that my hair is not actually as dark as it looks in the pic. it's actually brown.

The MW European Southwest Germany Meeting in Frankfurt on October 30th
Wow, where can I start. It was an awesome experience (at least for me) and something I would like to do again. The meeting wasn't under a guiding star at first, but I feel we just turned it into a really good day.
But first things first. As always - when you have an appointment - all highways were so crowded that *I* arrived about half an hour too late. To my luck at least BANONDRAIG was punctual. I wasn't the only one not to arrive in time and some people who actually meant to come did not make it at all. Finally it was "just" three of us: banondraig, Mothwench and me.
We decided to go to a certain place in Frankfurt. Of course no-one of us knows Frankfurt and of course anyone you asked knew directions but obviously not ours. After having explored all the beauty from endless subway hallways, that strangely never lead to the subway trains we needed to take, we decided to walk there. We never lost our humour though, so it actually was not a problem. More a teaser.
We had been on our way about 5 minutes when we discovered there was a "magic plants exhibition" just two stations away from us; so we took the right subway (this time) and somehow even arrived at the palm-garden. OK, we had difficulties to find the entry, but once we have found it the exhibition was pretty. It was slightly confusing though, especially because the plants and their names did not quite match ….
A funny moment was in the park in front of the exhibition building, having a sign that read: stay on the paths. Did they mean our spiritual path? Was it Goddess talking t us ?
Other than that it was interesting, and not boring. Thsee people who made the decorations had certainly a good sense of humour; they used some stuffies of devils, spiders etc as decoration for the witchy section. (yeah and we all KNOW that ALL witches worship the devil, rrrright!)
After that we would visit another part of the exhibition, where you could buy all sorts of flowers, plants etc. We had some good laughs when we discovered a plant called Tic Tac (now I know where they grow those!) and even more seeing a plant's name was Yahou. OK, we did not find Google but I felt strangely home again, seeing the internet followed our path. This feeling got stronger when we discovered there was an exhibition guest book you could sign…. Yeah, like on a home page, just a real one.
After that we visited the actual palm garden building, and could feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland. You would see plants that you usually have in small sizes on your window sill? But they were gigantic in this building. A reverse angle world. We were the tiny parts, the plants were the giants. The palm garden also has a pond with a creek leading to it. Inside the pond, there were KOYs swimming. Most of them swam in our direction once we arrived at the "shore", making me feel WE AER IN THE ZOO, not them. Reverse angle again I guess. We had a great laugh, when Banondraig discovered one of the koys taking a shower with sheer delight in the water fall of the creek…. I could not get around noticing another koy watching the whole scene, which made me thinking of him as the voyeur. Bad me!!!!
Just when leaving the palm garden, a mystical kitty crossed our path. We wanted to get her into cuddling with us, but she ran away (guess she wasn't that much into witches ?). We also found out that Banondraig can speak duckish, but the ducks in Frankfurt obviously speak a different dialect. OK, trhats an insider joke here. I just have to tease those who did not make it ….
The day found a wonderful end in a café on the train station. We actually sat in front of the Man In Black, who strangely enough were green in Frankfurt. Someone should tell those people what M.I.B. stands for I guess.
All in all it was a lovely day, and I hope we will repeat it
- and coming back home after Samhain, today, I even discover,
I
Survived
2
GINGERWITCHES
Woooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
PS: Mothwench, Banondraig - I hope you two enjoyed the day just as much as I did. Was a great pleasure meting you 2 for me at least

you're both right. the u.s. army is in fact very silly. the problem is that most of the people in it don't know that.
