Lilith Morgaine,

Why would you want that when you can just allow the spirit within you take over? I do that all the time. That's just my personal opinion.

Okay. Dancing has been apart of human history forever. Perhaps you could look into the ancient cultural ways in which they danced and combine a few. Remembering always to respect the cultures you take from. I'm sure there are various ways to do things.

I'd say if I were doing something like that with a group, make sure everything is symbolic. Do some sort of weaving dance to represent the web of life or something if the occasion calls for it. Use what you know and corespond with the celebration you plan on preparing for. I'm sure you can find something. This is all I know that I can use to help you, but I assure you, you will find something.

Much Love and Peace,

The only one that comes to mind immediately is The Spiral Dance. A quick google search should give you some ideas.

I tend to use Middle Eastern dance in ritual, but that's not going to work for what you're doing. I would suggest you just allow everyone to do what feels right. But that's just from my experience.

These are the directions I found:

Spiral Dance Instructions

From The Spiral Dance ~ © Starhawk, 1979, 1989 used with permission
Begin in a circle with everyone facing in. The leader drops the hand of the person on
her or his left, and begins moving in toward the center in a clockwise
direction.

When the lead person nears the center of the circle, she/he turns
toward her left hand, to face the person who is following her. (For
simplicity's sake, let's assume the leader is a woman.) She keeps moving,
always following her left hand. (1) Each person in the spiral will pass
all the other people in the group.

Eventually, the leader will find herself outside the body of the
spiral, facing out. She should continue about one quarter of the way
around the outside edge and then turn again to face the person following
her. She will then be leading the line around the outside of the circle,
facing in. (2)

When she comes to a loop in the line, at the place where she
turned, she goes inside the loop,(3) and continues until she finds herself
back in the center of the circle. Then she can wind the spiral tighter,
letting the energy build and the chant become a wordless sound, until the
group raises and grounds a cone of power. :)

If anyone thinks of any others, please email me.
BB

I don't know about written instructions.... however you might want to Consider-
taking a class in belly dancing or traditional hula.
Also check your local unitarin/non traditional churches & synagogues and dance schools for courses in sacred dance. There are a surprising number of christian churches that are reviving the tradtion of early christian sacred dance and they are really wonderful. Also you may have a sacred dance group or club in your area. We have one such group in my area that meets monthly. They teach sacred dance from all religious traditions including native american, tibetan, egyptian and east indian.... To have a group of a hundred people dancing in prayer is an extraordinary experience.

In a pinch, I would listen to and experiment with the music of gabriel roth- he designs music with movement and dance in mind. It's pretty intense energy.

The one I was taught by my first High Priestess was right foot forward, then bring your left to meet it. Right foot forward again, left foot to meet it. Then left foot forward, right to meet it and again. In a quick rhythm, obviously...edit to add, like a one two, one two rhythm (right foot first), then one two, one two (left first). Then switch.

It's more like a shuffle than a dance, but that's how we went about the Spiral Dance on the few occasions I remember doing it. As I recall, we spiralled into a cauldron that was at the centre of the circle deosil - sunwise - (which had a fire going in it), where we dropped pieces of paper which had things we wanted to "dispose of" written on them. We spiralled out widdershins, symbolically banishing them.

The first time we spiralled in, there was something we wanted to get rid of in a personal sense that we dropped into the fire - like bad habits, say. On the second time, it was something we wanted (or hoped/prayed for) someone else to be free of. On the third time, it was something we wanted the world in general to be rid of. I think it might have been a Samhain ritual...it was near this time of year, I'm sure.

I hope that makes sense....

Perhaps you can try collaborating on a group effort and create one as a group.

That would be the ideal, but we have a conservative 80 y/o male teacher.... sigh..... :scream:
