I'm not sure that this is the right spot to post this, but I AM SOOOOO P****D OFF!!!! the back of my house is state land and the STATE decided that we needed a gas line installed back there. Now, the back of my house also leads to power lines/station. So now I have a gas line (almost) and a bunch of power lines in the back of my house. But that's not the worst thing. OH NOOOOOO. No, to install this ridiculious (sp??) thing, they had to CUT DOWN ALL THE TREES AND LEVEL THE GROUND!!!!!! I wish I could post a picutre of what it looked like before these idiots came in and raped it! It's horrible!!!!! We had bunches of Black Locust trees, mulberry trees, oaks, elms, etc. My favorite spot (one of them) in back was this tiny clearing up on the hill I discovered it one afternoon, looking for my cat who got out of the house (he's a house kitty). It was so pretty and I could feel that is was a special spot. So I stopped earing for the cat, and made some quick fairy houses. I had the feeling it was one of the places they like to play and dance. WELL IT'S GONE NOW!!!!! GRRR. I'm sooo mad!

Then the other beautiful spot, that I just discovered this past spring--there's a ravine about 10 ft. back and all along the edge were bunches and bunches of daffodils. Ton's of them. It was so pretty. I took my son back there, and he was so happy to see them. he said it was a special spot nd that I should bring my Mom back there, since daffadils are her favorite. Yep, that's gone too.

We have one lonely Black Locust standing. He looks so sad standing there, trying to be brave. I swear you can see the branches have drooped lower and lower since this happend. My yard, looks so strange now. It's too damn bright. I like the sun and all that, but the trees gave it a lovely shade in the late evening. At night, it was just a bit more quiet. You wouldn't be able to see the road, or the stupid power machines. Now I see everything, and it's HORRIBLE!!!!

I cried last night. I can't look out back, cause I get so upset. We had deer that would come down all the time. So much so, that my dad and I set up a water bucket for them and a salt lick so they wouldn't come in the yard and mess up our gardens, but still be able to get water and stuff. There were these cool rocks that my son & I climbed on. Acorns by the dozens, blackberries, that we used to climb up on the shed roof to pick. There was a squirrel that lived in the old oak tree, it would torture my dogs. He would dance on the fence taunting them. then jump back on his tree. We used to get all kinds of birds. My son & I made all kinds of feeders for them.

I'm devestated. The worst thing was, the town didn't even bother to ask me & my neighbors opinion or offer up any other options. Just rip out all the trees and put the pipeline in. F*** the folks who live there, if it blows, they won't know. :uzi: :smash:

I'm sorry if I'm rambling on and on you guys, but I am truly devestated by this. I want to leave something, an offering, by the remaining tree, ya know, to let it's spirit know that I care. But I'm not sure what. I can feel the earth crying over this, her pain. I want to do something, but because i'm so upset, I can't even think of anything. Plus, it's a pain to get back there now cause of all the "security fencing". We used to have access on the side of my house & my neighbors, now there's an ugly orange fence up.

Thanks for listening.

Oh Starlite, I'm so sorry... :( *HUGS*...*HUGS*...*MORE HUGS*

Just as long as you still have that tree. I s'pose it's better that you can still remember what it was like. "It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved before."

Still, it's horrible and I'm sure those idiots that did that will get what is coming to them...

Until then...

AAAARRGH!!!!!!!

Its just so typical of bureaucrats to just go ahead and destroy the environment without asking the nearby residents for their opinion 'cos its not like its going to really affect them, is it ????
.

Again HUGS and KISSES, I hope your ranting vented your justified anger.

to see if they are interested in taking action. Involve enviromental groups and especially the PRESS! See if you can get the gov't to replace some of what they have killed. Local politicians really hate bad PR, but good PR like replacing some trees makes them look like heroes. It is worth a shot, I know it will not be the same, but if none scream, then certainly none will hear.

GRRRRRR! That really bites. I can't imagine how I would feel if someone did that to my nieghborhood/backyard. And my heart breaks for that tree. I really like the idea of planting for him. And definitely let the local politicians know. See what they can do if you stir up a bit of peaceful trouble.

Good luck hon.

I am SO sorry! I can't believe people can be so....ruthless! (I was going to use harsher words, but you never know who's kiddie is sitting on who's lap).

T^he whole nice peaceful "forgive" reaction is just ludicrous. I'd be PO'd too! Nature is not ours to destroy on a whim for a stupid GAS LINE.

The tree planting sounds like a good idea. Maybe put a few bird houses in the big one, try to get a little bit of the nature back.

Well it rained for most of the day today. So they didn't get much work done. My dad noticed that there was an 8 ft. ditch back there filled with water, so he dragged out his sump pump and used their water to water OUR flower garden. I doubt they'll notice or get upset by it. I just thought it was really funny that my Dad felt like he was getting back at them. He talks to the workers nearly every day since this mess started. He's trying to find the positive (gee I guess that's where I get it from), but he knows how it's breaking my heart.

i'm going to try and plant some stuff out by the remaining tree soon. I just want to make sure that they are done being destructive, cause it'll just p*** me off if they ruin that too.

some of my co-workers live near by and they drove by. everyone is just so shocked, because I don't think anyone believed it'd be as bad as it is now. Can't talk to the local gov't because they are all "it's for the better and there's nothing we can do about it now". weaklings. all they care about is the "waterfront revitalization" (i live by the Hudson river) and building all these unaffordable houses down by the river. That's a whole other issue that annoys me.

I'm gonna stop now, cause I'm pretty much in a decent mood today and talking about it cheeses me off. Thank the Gods I'm leaving for vacation on Sunday, so I don't have to look at this mess for a week.

Thanks for all the hugs and kind thoughts. :heartthro :heartthro :heartthro

How awful, I can understand why you're so p***** off. I'll never understand the way some people think, ugh.

When I was younger and still live at my parents house there were some wooded fields behind my best friends house across the street. It was such a calm and beautiful place.

Some guy bought it and decided he was going to build houses on it. He went and cleared the first field before doing the proper tests. It turned out to be too marshy so he couldn't build after all. Luckily when the field was cleared a humungous oak tree, my favorite and an old apple orchard were spared.

The field is growing back and new trees are showing up, but it would have been so much more beautiful if he had just left it alone.

well.. even though hearing things like that make furious, i certainly would NEVER advise you to do any thing illegal.
Like for example:
I would never suggest that you end every night by going and tearing out thier surveying flags
or spraying brown paint over the orange markings on the trees
nor would I suggest you do any thing to disable thier heavy machinary (although uncle bens rice in the radiator works pretty well)
you see, these things violate the laws of the commonwealth, and are therefore wrong.

ok. i'll take the ski mask off now....
that sucks. i'm sorry

I do agree that it is sad.

Though I'd also like to remind everyone that there IS that little thing called a property line. If it is past your property line and on government or privately owned soil, then they have every right to tear it up or do whatever they feel like doing with it.

So while it's sad that some beautiful land had to be destroyed for 'progress', I don't think there's anything 'wrong' with what was done. At least not if it was on goverment land. They don't need your permission or that of the neighborhood. So to get angry over it is just wasted energy. You knew (or at least should have known) the risks when you bought the property. Such are the 'joys' of home ownership.

I completely understand your feelings about the environmental devastation ..... its horrible and its going on in many places.
I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where the coastal waters maintain a delicate balance to continue the life of the entire ecosystem, and the environmentalists here have some clout, because WE dont want our coastal bays destroyed by greedy and indifferent developers. Some of the organisations here have even gone so far as to get the Governor involved in a local dispute over the development of a 700 acre land parcel that has permits from TWENTY tears ago that says they can clear cut the entire thing, when they have been shown its environmentally devastating, and also have been shown that they can MAKE MORE MONEY and build evenmore houses by using the areas already cleard and leaving the forest ALONE. Can you imagine somone inisisting they could use safety codes from twenty years ago?? SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST IGNORANT AND INDIFFERENT to anything but their own need and greed, but they would be the FIRST to scream and yell in a restaurant if they couldnt get their Crab dinner or if it was too expensive .
You might want to use this opportunity to check out what local plants grow there ... and plant some of them to assist in the recovery of the immediate area, to help the local animals that have been displaced as well, especially the birds you can get some feeders .... you can also do ritual healing to the area and maybe some protection to prevent further harm. I am so sorry this happened to you ....... and your lovely area .....in ancient times the plants and trees were the local gods and goddesses ,the Genus Locii or local spirits.... so no wonder you felt it , that spirit goes beyond man-made property lines, trust that!

Ldy Starlite,
I'm sorry to hear aout what they did to you. Please, don't be sad.
You could always plant the trees sacred to our gods and goddesses. And think of the flowers the Fair Folk would love. You could even design your own fairie ring in rememberence of those who were killed by uncaring gov. officials.
