ANKARA, Turkey -- No water, no sex.
That's what a group of women from a Turkish village have told
their husbands, who have been banished from the bedroom
until they fix the village's water system.
For months the women have been queuing in front of a trickling
village fountain for water that they carry home in large containers,
a walk that for some can be many kilometres.
"One of the woman launched the idea as a joke, but it is serious," said Faliha Sari. "When we cannot wash ourselves and
cannot wash our clothes, we don't want to do other things,"
she said.
Sari said most of the women in the village were in the same
situation, but she did not know how many were refusing sex.
The villlage has some 600 residents.
"I am 70 years old and alone -- I have no husband to ban from
the bedroom," said Fatma Sari. "But I can tell you this much. I am
fed up with the water situation."
Villagers say the water system built in 1974 breaks down
frequently, leaving the village without running water for months.
The bedroom boycott in the village of Sirt, near the Mediterranean resort of Antalya, has been going on for about a
month and the men have finally asked the municipality to fix the
system or give them the parts.
"Our women are right to protest, but we're the ones who are
suffering," the local newspaper quoted village leader Ibrahim Sari
as saying.
Poor guys....aaaaaaaaaw hehehe ;) ;) 8O 8O
