That's what I thought, and I was always correcting my husband because he says "seltic" then while watching something on television one night ,someone pronounced it "Seltic"..I just thought maybe it was one of those words that had more than one pronunciation.

Nope. Football as in the football team in Glasgow, popularly supported by Catholics. Arch-rival of Rangers football team, popularly supported by Protestants... :durrrr:

I forgot there was a basketball team as well. But that's also "Seltic" isn't it? :D

Back on topic!! *ahem* most of the Egyptian dieties are pretty straight forward in pronunciation. Bastet and astarte are pronounced how they look. There are however several different versions of the names that you should look into, you might be more comfortable calling her Bast for instance and other such things. Now the Celtic dieties and the norse, hoo boy their pronunciation is kinda wonky (no offense to the people who follow those paths) most likely the way to pronounce them is waaaay off from how it's spelled. (I almost just wrote how it smells!). Hope this helps.

Being an Irish speajer, I can probably help with the pronounciation of deities of a like persuasion.

My guess is that the ones you gave would be Ahs-tar-tay and pronounced-as-it-looks.

Still OT, but...sorry, no...

I asked hubby, just to make sure, but his reply probably isn't repeatable in a public forum :)

And in a vague effort to be on topic, I've always been told that Astarte is pronounced "Ass-tar-tay", if that makes sense phonetically...what Tangerines said..
