13 sickened attempting to get high

At least 13 people between the ages of 18 and 35 have been
taken to hospital in kamloops after consuming potentially
lethal flowers in an attempt to get high.
The angels' trumpet -- commonly grown in parks and private
flower beds -- produces a 20-cm white flower known for its
intoxicating night scent.
But thrill-seekers in Kamloops say they got stoned eating
"moonflowers" -- just before they got sick.
Joshua Dyson, 19, said he and Richard Bailey, 21, and Eric Lamarche, 19, ended up at Royal Inland Hospital on Sunday
night after eating some of the flowers picked near a downtown
park.
"We got really, really high," he said. "I was hallucinating constantly."
There is no treatment for moonflower poisoning, so patients are
usually sedated and monitored for secondary complications,
including kidney failure, cardiac arrest, and even coma.

No, it's not belladonna... It's a completely different kind of plants. Kids in this area have been using this plant to get high for a long time... It's gotten so bad that the county destroys any plants it finds... And these plants are very, very poisionous...

It's not getting high that's the issue as much as eating something without understanding or knowing the full effects of such a substance. Too many people think just 'coz its natural, it can't hurt them.

well most drugs are "natural" in their original form.. after all.. opiates come from the opium plant... and that's just one example.

personally, i think it's the ultra high prices of hallucinagens on the market (and well.. dont' ask how i know these things *is innocent.... really*), not to mention the fact that when you can find someone who even SELLS the stuff, it's often fake, and for the inexperienced, but curious, drug user, i suppose eating some plant in the park and risking that, is better than risking losing your money.

kids don't think about the consequences of all of their actions sometimes... other people simply don't think they'll ever mess up and kill themselves by accidentally eating too much of the wrong thing in an attempt to get "high".

sad really, but oh well. what can you do?

can you please descibe this flower a bit better ....I have a wild flower growing aroung my house sorta like that ...it seems to open its flowers later in the day and stay open at night....I wont eat them...but would like to know...???

and using a bowl & straw over fresh cow poop, and get high
sniffing the methane.:eek: :rolleyes:

Angel's Trumpet is Datura ... it is a very deadly hallucinagenic drug ... every part of the plant is toxic and you can be affected by simply handling it with your bare hands.

It's all over the world and not illegal to own or grow, even though it is very lethal.

SOme folks think it's cool to try it and they think they are able to "control" it ... that is such a crock. The level of toxicity varies depending on growing conditions.

Gunner was correct, very correct, it's a "foolkiller" ... pure and simple. Purposeful use of this certainly classes a person as a fool.

on a related side note: I have a bottle of opium oil. I don't know if it's like opiads, but I bought it because it smells nice, it's kind of a scent oil or essential oil, I suppose. It's extremely expensive, imported from Egypt. You wouldn't belive the reaction I got from my parents when I told them it was opium oil -_-;;

If those kids are this desperate, why don't they eat a poppy?

-_-; uhg, how could ANYONE lick a frog, sniff cow turds, or stuff like that just to get high? Have they ever tried hyperventilation? Sure, it's bad for you, but it's prolly a lot less dangerous. Or spinning around in circles, that'll get you high. Or try buying a few good comedies and having over a few friends. . . after a while the endorphines REALLY build up in your brain. . . I've gotten "drunk" from laughing. now THAT'S a high!

My friends brother used to be a BIG pot head... one day, he was out of cash... so he decided to smoke some Oregano, because it looked the same. Idiot. He got soooo sick. He did get a bit high, but that's only because you inhale something into your body that isn't usually there, and it's gonna mess with you, somehow. He couldn't enjoy this tiny high, though.. because the spent the rest of the evening praying to the porceline God.

I agree with Puma... all those things are tons funner and safer than smoking something, or sniffing something (eww, cow poop?).

BTW, who was the idiot who figured out that sniffing cow poop would get you high?? I can see it now.. idiot wandering around through a cow pasture.. trips and falls down, right into a big ol' pile of cow poop... "Hey guys! Ya gotta come smell this! I think I'm getting high!!" Or who was the person that figured out that licking a certain frog would get you high? "I wonder if I'll get warts on my tongue if I lick this frog... **sluuuuuurp**.. woah.. where'd all the smurfs come from?"

I know I sound like a hypocrite, because, I myself have tried many a drug in my time. But I've NEVER sniffed anyones poop or licked an amphibian. And, now, I am proudly drug free and happy, so darn it, I can say anything I want to. :)

opium is made from a variety of poppy plant, i believe from the seed ball just below the flower, it's probably among the older narcotics known. i like that list that included getting high laughing with friends, it doesn't cost much more than the price of a three stooges or laurel and hardy tape rental, some soda pop and a pizza or two, and it's legal as well as fun. as for the rest of the pharmacopea, i'll stick with my occasional tot of tullamore dew.

There was a thing in the local paper not too long ago a bout kids dipping cigarettes in *formaldehyde* to get high. Some of this stuff makes me ashamed of my generation...
