I'm searching for information on the Goddess Sekhmet. I'm a Pagan and work with Celtic Gods/Goddesses, but last week I took a trip to the British Museum.....while I was there I came across a black Statue of the setted Goddess Sekhmet (I knew this later by reading the plague...as I really don't have a clue about Egyptian mythology).
I first felt a tingling in my hands and then my whole body, I turned around to see this beautiful statue and a voice so loud that someone could have shouted it in the room echoed in my head ...."Goddess".
I was very surprised to have such an encounter with her...I was talking to some of my Pagan friends who live in London the other day and one recalled how their friend had seen sparks fly off this statue??? I don't know if it was just the power this paticular statue had or.....well, I know that all the artifacts there were very powerful and the experience I had with the Goddess was at a more personal level.
A few weeks later I did a guided mediation on her and when I entered Sekhmet's temple everything turned to darkenss and I felt her presence all around me. It was wierd, unlike most aspects of the Goddess I have worked with before...very heavy and black and I could smell a catty/doggish odour (presumabley lion odour...not I couldn't say as I've never been that close to one!). I knelt before her and told her my intentions for visiting her and I saw her flashing eyes in the dark. She told me that I had grown and now could face the fire in myself. I asked her why she had called me and she said to worship her. I also asked her about healing (since I'm very interested in it both psychologically - I'm in my final year of a psychology degree - and also energy healing etc) and she told me to use the light in my hands and heart.
It was such an intense experience, one that really has shaken my life. I wanted to share it with you as I'm sure you will understand and appreciate what it was like. I was also wondering how other peoples pathworkings or rituals with the Goddess Sekhemt have turned out and if anyone knows of groups in England devoted to her.
