No it's not. It's how those people like to live. If they are happy, who are we to judge that?

i'm mainly talking about the ones that are 16
"PLEASE TURN ME INTO A VAMP...IF U R A REAL VAMP PLEASE e-mail me"
i mean sorry, nevermind, i guess there really are undead creatures running around sucking blood.
(i have nothing against spiritual vampiristic practices, I do however, find the concept of mythical undead creatures of the night to be a BIT outrageous)

my worries about the vampire stuff are these.
A) it is a somewhat antisocial sect. Yes they have a right to live their lives any which way they choose. But it's such an isolating lifestyle..etc....that it would lend itsself to depression. Unfortunately, it is mainly teens who are drawn to this lifestyle...and the teenage years are very fragile. Fraught with MANY other causes of depression, etc. This sort of lifestyle...I don't know...seems to only add to that depression, imo.
B)The actual BLOOD DRINKERS...that is a HUGE cause of concern. If I had a child, and they were into that aspect of vampire life, i'd be worried SICK! How can these people know that eachother are disease and drug free? THey are taking a HUGE risk.

yeah, thanks for pointing that out danustouch...
i mean... these kids could EASILY get used and manipulated.. forced into a sick form of slavery.. i've seen it before...
NYC Is full of these "vampire" people that SAY they are 1000s of years old and have "powers"
All they are looking for is some confused teenage girl they can trick into bed, and slowly manipulate them into being their donor/slave/etc.
Sure, there are people that drink blood, and live a "vampiric" lifestyle, but they aren't undead, or 1000s of years old.
Anyone can drink blood.
But the last time i checked, blood carried diseases.
And I mean... what 16 year old is gonna worry about getting AIDS when they're about to be made into a REAL vampire!~!!
Role playing is great. Myths are great.
Spirituality is a wonderful thing. If you need to drink blood, or take energy, in order to follow your path, so be it.
But that's not what is going on in most of these frantic requests.
These people are under the impression that there are undead creatures walking around, and that they might just come over for "dinner" and make them into a vampire too.
To me, that's misguided.
And for them, the consequences could be VERY sad.

I fully agree. Numerous times, I've come across individuals (and usually underaged ones, at that)...who claim to be the "Undead"..and say that they drink blood. I can't help but think to myself, how naive that belief is. In this day and age..with all of the diseases that could be spread...I would just so hate for some of these people to come to a realllllly rude awakening about it. You know? And you are right. Many of these young girls who go looking for "Real" vampires become slaves to their.."Teachers"....etc...and all for a promise, which will most assuredly not come true.
The saddest case I know of, involving this behavior..was a young mother I met...she had two children, and a husband. But was unhappy at home. She started meeting people in a goth chatroom, which led her to vampire chats...and now, she's going out on the weekends, to vamp clubs, and imbibing blood. Okay..now that is her personal choice..and her personal life...BUT...what about her two babies? What happens when Mama dies, because mama caught a mysterious disease??? Ugh..that one literally made me furious.

i mean, don't get me wrong.
some people are VERY responsible about blood bonding/etc
however... some people... espeically young and impressionable people.... aren't so safe... as i've witnessed kids openly drinking each other's blood before
and if you already believe that someone can make you live forever by letting them drink your blood.
then you probably aren't thinking about the possibility that they are lying, or that they could have a disease.

Hey Lucidia!
Could anyone tell what a Vampire is in today's society? Is it a goth type of thing, is it role-playing? Is it a relgious path or magickal path? Do people really drink blood, etc.?
Lucidia
August 23rd, 2001, 12:55 PM
well a LOT of the people on this board were asking for REAL vamps.. like the undead kind.. the ones that drink blood to maintain their immortality.
I know there are people that drain energy from others, people that drink blood for ritual, or also for energy.
But i don't know of anyone who has escaped death by doing it.
there are lots of role players, and people that like fantasy, and dressing up and putting on fangs and playing a part.
that's GREAT! whatever floats your boat. i've done it, so i'm no one to talk.
but i'm just concerned about people who might be manipulated by people claiming to be immortal.
most people i know, that follow some vampiric lifestyle, refer to themselves as "vampyres" with a Y, to differentiate themselves from the mythical undead ones.
Danustouch
August 23rd, 2001, 12:56 PM
it's a little bit of all, I believe Mysty. Yes..there really ARE people who choose to drink blood, as part of their vampire beliefs. There are clubs specifically desighned for this lifestyle, in the big cities, even.
I don't know too much about their magickal practices, so can't comment on that.
But some of it, I suppose, is about role playing, and is connected with goth, somewhat. I'm sure many people START into it by getting into the vampire RPG games, but..the two aren't mutually exclusive, from what I know.
Lucidia
August 23rd, 2001, 12:58 PM
and most "goth" people i know think the "vampyres" are really geeky or dorky or that they are all role players, or just plain stupid.
then again most "goth" people i know are athiests, so they don't follow or believe in any spiritual path, so even if the "vampyre" in question actually drank blood, or took energy, or did magickal rituals, the "goth" probably wouldn't believe it, since none of that is "real".
Then again, there are people that cross all those paths.. and they're gothic/wiccan/vamps, or so they claim.

Oh dear. Call me old, but this is really sad. Yes, it is a lifestyle that can be chosen, but the people making the postings there are so young!! How can one make an educated choice of lifestyle at that age?? :(
As for actual blood consumption: sooooo dangerous. *shiver*
Question: can someone explain to me the purpose of blood bonding? Is it simply the significance or something else I'm not aware of?

I wouldn't call it sad... and I won't judge them for the way they chose to live their life, just like I don't like people to judge me on the way I live mine.
Blood consumption is dangerous, expecially if you don't know all the facts, whether they have a disease. I really know nothing about how "Vampires" chose to live. But your right when you say there are such young people, that don't know a thing about what they are doing, they are just jumping right into things...:(

Wyrdsister
For the most part, blood is sacred, and it contains your "life force". By sharing blood with another person, through contact of an open wound or through shared consumption, the symbolism, is that you are sharing life energy, and therefore 'bonding' with each other on the energy/life force level.
it can be dangerous(both persons should get tested for any blood-transmissable diseases, etc; and of course trust each other very much), and in my personal beliefs, blood bonds are VERY strong and not to be taken lightly.

Hmm what an interesting website.

August 23rd, 2001, 03:21 PM
i would like to make a note that my reference to sad and misguided people was towards the "kids" (16 years old is a kid to me, unless they prove otherwise through actions/words) that were "begging" for a "real vampire" to come and "turn them into a vampire" in the mythical dramatic FICTIONAL embrace.
the website itself may contain lots of legitimate information and reference materials regarding vampiric myth, lengend, etc.
it may also contain a bunch of rubbish.
not all the people that posted on that "board" were kids asking to be embraced. many just had actual questions or were curious about things. some may have just been interested in alternative lifestyles, etc.
what upset me, and i should have clarified this from the beginning, was the younger people who actually might be misguided by some sick adult that would use their curiousity against them and put them in a very dangerous situation (sharing blood with a stranger), under the pretenses of "gaining immortality", when one very real possibility might be gaining a fatal disease.

OK, funny story time. Gather round kids.
So this must have been 6 or 7 years ago, I was hanging out with Traz and Jude (I used to hate him, but now I'm really indifferent)... and they tell me that they have been messing with Nick's little brother Chris... Apparently, this kid drank a bunch of 911 sauce from Cluck U, and Jude told him that it was actually Vampire blood.. and he spent a whole day sucking on the end of a garden hose to cool off his mouth! (this is all thirdhand, I wasn't there for that stuff). Then, after that, he claimed to be going through a "change". He said he could see in the dark, and he became obsessed with drawing the Wu-Tang clan symbol everywhere.. sort of a bat shape, and he would hold up the paper to Nick and say "I am the bat" and all sorts of weird stuff like that. Anyway, if you hadn't guessed, this kid is a little off. The real trajedy is he was 14 and only semi-literate.
Anyway, Jude had this kid convinced that He was a vampire, and began "training" him.. they tricked him into thinking he was moving things with his mind when actually THEY were moving things when his eyes were closed..... They also did some trick where he thought he was astrally projecting himself, and some other really cruel pranks.
So anyway, Jude tells me all this and asks if I want to mess with this kid. So at this time, I think I'm pledging a fraternity, and getting messed with a WHOLE LOT myself... so I agree. I say, "OK let's do this". We agree that I am to be Jude's superior, a vampire, coming into town from San Fransisco to check on Chris's training. I'm supposed to act all upset, and yell at Jude because his training is going so poorly... actualy, the same trick my frat brothers pulled on me more than once.
We all go out to Middletown to some haunted field, and the guys are trying to spook this kid out, meanwhile Jude and I are talking to this kid, and Jude is totally kissing my ass, like I'm some dark power big-shot or something, and we're just making up stuff about The Dark Circle and the Unseen Masters and the Power Beyond and all sort of mystical-sounding stuff like that. Every minute he is apologising to me at the sad state of vampiric affairs here in NJ!
Anyway, we get back to Traz's and then I decide to have a reading of the Book of Nod in his garage, just for effect. Yes, White Wolf's book of nod. I guess this must have been like 1996 b/c that's when I bought that one... so I read all sorts of vampire passages, fresh out of White Wolf cannon, and then "interpreted" them into the context of Jude's ruse.. it was so funny! Then I pulled the kid aside, and asked him how old he thought I was. I told him that I was 75, and he bought it completely. Then I yelled at him because he could barely read the passages I had given to him, and told him that to be a true Vampire one must be well-read. Sort of a guilt reflex really, I doubt he turned around, but I had to try.
I wish I knew how the story ended, someday I will have to get together with those guys and see what happened.

Again it sounds like HOLLYWOOD caught the young ones!!
And some of them sound so sad, so why would they want it to continue for eternity??? I do not get it!
In Voodoo they have a ritual and bring the dead back, But in Haiti these people are stickly used as slaves. That is not what my plan is and appears much less glamorous. And the blood thing Hollywood shows will return them to the dead. That is why the masters of the slaves control the diet and the money they get for the work. This is documented to have gone on for years.
With HIV this is really a scarey thing!:(

I can see why a young person would be drawn into the whole live forever thing....Many young people already think of themselves as immortal or untouchable.
Personally I would like to live for eternity...Yes I would see my children die but I would live to help all future generations of my line should the time come.
I am aware of psychic vampires but have never met a "real" one. I know many people have had the "urge" to drink blood but to me it seems to be a sign of a deeper issue.
I hope these people get some guidance....and some peace.

supernatural vs. non-supernatural
Well, i guess it depends on your definition of vampire...
there are people who are "mortal" but who drink blood...I guess they are vampires
There are those who suck energy (some of my best friends are vampires) and if they can craft the skill, the are vampires too
whether or not you belive in the mortal -- immortal thing is not necessarily the issue...
it is scary for kids though
I have seem some pretty bizzare stuff in my life (including my own spelling sometimes) and I know a vampire hunter.

Danustouch,
Unfornately, there are real vampires. Believe me! I've met one when I was in Puerto Rico. However, it is as one great man once said.
The grace of youth is to learn, but the mistakes of youth will last a lifetime.
Kids nowadays are having a hard time finding a true direction. It's all we can do to love, guide and protect them all we can. This can only be accompliced by listening, understanding and some hard line truth.
Sorry, if I'm not much of one to quote others, but I do have a life time of experience and hardknocks to rely on. I just wish I could sit down and talk to these kids face to face. There are too many bad people out there who will take advantage of them and I can't stand the thought of that.

I am not going to debate the existence of real vampires. Whether or not there ARE real immortal beings, who live on blood...
What I am saying, is that many of the teenagers who are seeking to be "let into" this ....lifestyle, are experiencing deep emotional problems. Needing to feel acceptance. And unfortunately, there will always be those in this world, willing to take advantage of them. Whether or not by "False Promises"...or by simply imposing their beliefs upon a mind which is not fully formed enough to MAKE that choice....it is still too much of an opportunity for them to be taken advantage of.
What i was referring to earlier..with the Vampire- Hunter...his SITE read like a b rated horror movie. I'm sorry...but I don't buy his "take" on the whole thing. I believe in Ghosts, But..I believe that the Warrens (two of the worlds most prominant Ghost-Hunters)..are Complete Shams. This, after attending some of their lectures, meeting them in person, and meeting people who they claim to have helped. Also..by watching them in action. Sorry..but whether or not there ARE real vampires, I still don't buy this guy.

my views:
There ARE vampires, whether energy or otherwise. I'm going to keep an open mind, and I've had a fewexperiences that made at least the energy kind painfully real, and I have inklings about the other kinds.
Kids should be protected: ok. I will both show my veiw, and the devils advocate in this one. My view: Kids need to be protected from this. Most 13 (yes, there were some on that board) to 18 year olds I know could kill themselves by getting lost in a paper bag they thought was a labyrinth. If they were CONVINCED it was a labyrinth they couldn't get out of, then they WOULDN'T. Kids won't think about these things, they'll get a buzz from it all, and then will probably end up with a H*ll of a lot more than a buzz. Gomen ne for the swearing but I feel strongly about that. A LOT of misguided kids in every way possible are screwing up their lives by associating with people who lo and behold are only out to use and abuse them.
Devil's Advocate: "Hey, this is my life. I'm free to follow my own path!" I myself am 16. I will be 17 in a few months, but I'm still a teenager, still a minor. Although I have held similar beliefs my whole life, this is the first year that I have been openly pagan. My parents may think (they don't, but just for the heck of it any parent could think) that it's a dangerous, stupid, rediculous thing for me to believe, behave, and make desicions this way. To them, Paganism could be just as bad as vampirism to other people. They might condemn me for being so young and choosing to find my own path. . . and you are both understanding and at the same time perhaps ready to come to my aid and say "hey, let her make her own choices. She needs to live her life for herself. And if she is wrong then she has learned from it."
Do you see what I'm getting at with that?
Is it wrong for me to be pagan though I'm "only" 16? And I put quotes around the only because although yes, most of you have lived longer than me, and yes, you may know more and have more wisdom. . . I have gone through a H*LL of a lot of stuff in my lifetime, short as it may seem to you, it's been an eternity for me. I have learned hard lessons that most teenagers don't learn till their 20's and 30's and 40's. I have learned a lot about myself and others and I'm still learning, but there are other kids out there like me, who make more responsible choices than their parents do, on a constant basis. Sometimes children are more adult than the adults.
now, I don't condone things like practicing vampirisim unsafely, such as not sterilizing things, and doing things with people you don't know. . . it's like sex in that aspect. What self-respecting person meets a complete stranger and two hours later has sex with them? I think it's the same thing with these kids. It's one thing if they're being EXTREMELY cautious about it, if they're watched by someone who has done this before and knows how to do it safely, if they're all careful and know everyone involved and have learned about it first. It's a completely different thing when they just go "well hey! you look tastey. *slash suck* it's those kind of people who worry me. But if the people doing this are being responsible about it, and following their own beliefs, and not hurting others. . .then it's their life to live. It's their path, and doubtlessly they'll learn just as much as any other. And if it's so horrible for them, then eventually they will learn that lesson, whether in this life or when they leave it.
This has been Puma Hime's Devil's Advocate of the Month.
At any rate. . . that "Vampire Hunter" has problems. . . I think he needs a few quick. . .err. . . taps. . .over the head with. . .umm. . .a toothpic. Yeah, that's it. (trying not to sound too viloent here, when I"d really rather see guys like that have some manifestation of their vision of a "real" vampire come up and kick their *ss. . . what right do they have running around killing other people just because they're different, anyways? say there were real vampires, say "joe vamp". And Joe vamp always asked his prey first if it was ok and only fed when they consented, and then mr. Hunter comes along and kills off Joe Vamp. . . where does he get the right to do that!?)
The "real vampire" webpage or whatever it was. . . It struck me as odd, but well put-together, and I liked the fact that the guy (girl?) said how he/she didn't condone minors all by themselves cutting and stuffs, that it should be something responsibly done. . . things like that. I appreciated his/her efforts to do that, he/she is being responsible.
. . . hope I havn't pissed anyone off. Just talking. Gomen if I seem to be swearing more than usual. . . o.O; can't figure it out. I think I'm just having a weird day.

I agree with the fact that "Vampirism" Is an alternate life-style and people that use blood because of this life style, are not wrong, I have no say if they are right or not. I may not agree with it, but that doesn't mean I should like Bash it or somethin.

this is a dangerous thing, particularly as it attracts the young and vulnerable, both emotionally and physically. given the predator/prey relationship portrayed in most vampire stories it is almost guaranteed to attract other types of predators. i won't go into a long rant, others in this thread have said it as well or better than i can but i'd keep a careful eye on anyone styling him or herself a "real vampire".
(by the way illuminatus, that "glare" of yours needs work, check clint eastwood as "nameless" or "dirty harry" for examples, that's intimidation.)

Ugh..that one literally made me furious.that's why you make sure the person gets tested
