One night, after a long nature hike at night, under a full moon, my friends and I were all in a giddy mood. Sitting at the diner, drinking coffee, after our hike (it was around midnight, at that point)..we decided none of us were tired, and we wanted to do something a little crazy. So..we decided to go for a walk in the "Old" section of the Town Cemetery. Our purpose was not to create any problems or anything....but...that is where Charles Ives was buried, and we thought that we'd sing a song of his (the words of which were actually written by Whitman)...over his grave..and see if anything spooky happened.

Well..we went, we did it..and NOTHING happened. So..we decided to just walk around some more. There we are, a group of seven people, huddled around two flashlights, walking in a cemetery. All of a sudden, a movement out of the corner of my eye, catches my attention. I turn around, and there is a Tarp, right next to a fresh, open grave. And...the tarp is...MOVING!!!!! I Scream, all of my friends turn around, seeing it move, they scream..then the thing beneath the tarp, rises up..and screams, too!!!!!! It was just a man..a homeless person, I suppose, sleeping in a graveyard. But..why beside an open grave, I'll never know. He most definately was not dead though. And there was no coffin. Anyway....You've never seen anyone run so fast, as my friends and I did that night! LOL..I will NEVER forget that!

So what are your startling, and yet funny stories? Please share!

mine's not that good - but it's kind of funny.
I used to live 3 miles outside of town -alone- town was approximately 800 people & 30 miles from the city. Anyway - there was a big picture window in the front of my LR - I always left the curtains open b/c you could see straight up the road and know someone was coming when they were still 2 miles away. Every now and then the porch light would get me at an odd angle and when I looked out the window - there would be someone staring right back in at me - from like 2 ft on the other side of the window. YIKES! -I can't believe I didn't jump holes straight through the ceiling. LOL
{sheepishly} ...yah, it was me looking out at a reflection of -me.
sure did get my heart to pumping though. LOL boy - i sure do miss that house, except for that part of it.

Unfortunately, we have a huge picture window like that at this house, it gets me about once a month. you 'd think I'd have it figured out by now. lol

Used to live on a farm. House was kinda old, and a generation ago the owner died in it. I was a teenager then, anyway, Saw Exorcist for first time (to this day wish hadnt). Went to bed and my cat of course comes with me. MY bed is by the window at the back of the house.
Cat is lying on my chest purring preparing for sleep. When outside I hear a noise. It sounded alot like someone calling my name. Very Eerie! I look out window from laying position with cat. Nothing. Turn back to go to sleep and hear it again. Now I am afraid to look.
So as I stare at my cat, he turns his head 360 degrees to look at me. As he opens mouth to meow the noise outside says "Joe" again. That was all it took, I freaked! Tossed cat in air and ran to sisters room knocking and asking if she heard anything. Slept on her floor that night.

Dude, your cats scary! Thanks alot, I have to sleep with my cat tonight! lol
There was this one time when I woke up at like 4 in the morning, and I didnt know why i had woken up. I was just sitting there, listining for the noise that woke me up. All of a sudden this frantic scratching starts in my wall right beside my head, so loud im surprised my entire household doesnt wake up. Now it doesnt sound that scary, but imagine a dog scratching something and times that by 10, thats how "frantic" this sounded. I got freaked out of my mind, cuz I was just envisioning some creature shooting thru my wall and feasting on my flesh. I went and slept in my little brothers bed because I couldnt stand being near the weird noise. Turns out there was a racoon in my wall, but boy did that freak me out!

I woke up in the middle of the night, straining to hear the sound that woke me. In a half daze, from my mattress on the floor, I heard a flapping. It was a moth, I was sure. A big moth. I looked up, and saw the shadow circling my room. A *very* big moth. My eyes cleared a bit more, and as I looked up at it, I began to think perhaps this was a monster moth. Funny how being half asleep can do that to you. Then I thought "maybe it's a bird". So I stumble up, turn the light on, and look up to find a bat flying at my face. I turned the light back off and jumped back under the covers. I poked my (now ex) boyfriend awake and told him to catch it. At which point he screamed like a girl and wrapped the blanket around him. So I said "well I need to catch this", got up again, turned the light on, and let my bf run out of the room with the blanket wrapped around him. The bat flew out finally into the hallway. My parents were asleep in the next room, so I snuck downstairs to find a box. When I came back up the stairs I ran into my brother and almost screamed. He'd just come home from a party and wondered what the commotion was. Together we caught the bat and took it outside and let it go.

Watch out for those shadow monster moths :D

LOL willow!!!!!!! I would have been terrified too! I was swimming at night with my hubby one time, and a bat flew into the pool. I jumped on my hubby, and almost drowned him!

This one time at band camp......Oh wait lol

The only weird experience I have ever had was this.....Me and my sister were walking around a graveyard while mom was next door buying a tractor...well there was a guy in a open grave just laying in there with a bicycle INSIDE the ground with him....well we talked to him and then we went over and got mom to show her this looney....when we came back we couldnt find the open grave or the man and the bike...it was a small cemetery and we walked up and down EVERY row...and couldnt find it!!

No this isnt made up and no I dont believe in ghosts...I am sure there is a logical explanation....I just havent thought of one yet. lol :)

Winter
