How exactly do I choose which college I want to go to? What do I look for? I've looked at a few sites, but they didn't help much.

These are some of the things I looked for I picked the university I went to.
Location. I wanted to leave my city, but not be too far away. I chose a college 300 miles from home. It was a good distance from my parents, but still close enough to come home for the weekends or quickly for an emergency.
Size of campus. I chose a medium sized campus.
Educational programs. I needed a school with strong English and Women's Studies departments since that's what I wanted to study.
Diversity of the campus. I required a place that was culturally diverse and liberal.
Prices are important too, of course, but most school offere financial assistance (some more than others though).
If you can, visit some of the schools you're considering. Most colleges hosts weekends and tours for prospective students. Visit their websites for more information.
Hope this helps.

Number one priority - close enough to get home in an emergency, but far enough away that your parents can't drop by unannounced.
Decide what you want to study and look for the best so many in that field, then consider what each location is like, try to visit if you can because you get a better feel for the place.
Consider what it will be like living there for x amount of years, is there accommodation near campus, will you have to travel in by bus everyday or can you walk etc.
Do they send out a prospectus? See if you can get hold of one for each college, you can sometimes get a feel from them, but a visit is best.
I had my top two chosen, and when I went to visit both I hated one and fell in love with the other.
Do they sell any sort of published college guide, that compares and contrasts different colleges? They can be pretty helpful too.

Nothing I can't add that hasn't already been said... :)
Just take your time choosing. College was the best 7 years of my life. Well, the most fun ones anyway. :D Mad all the bad stuff in high school worth living through.
Which ever one you end up at, best of luck to you!

I base my search on three things
Content of what I want to study...
Price....
and Location....:D
as for finding them, I'm not sure what to say both the schools I have my eye on I was lucky enough to have recommended to me by people...I've researched them both and they both seem perfect, now comes the choosing.:D

what made me choose is we whent to visit all the local colleges. There were two exactly the same distance from me. One looked like a bomb had hit it, five policemen jumped on some students and they didn't have drama (I want to be a drama teacher) and the proffessors were dry.
The other one had the highest success rate with nearly every class producing a 90%+ pass rate. Had a drama department where most of their students get accepted into the best drama schools, producing dancers and actors on the big screen. And when we left half of our year there by accident, were very humourus and helped them get home. Guess which one I chose? And hell I'm loving it.
Go with the atmosphere, humans have a very good sense on whether they will enjoy certain places. Go visit and see. Most colleges will welcome your visit and will even find a guide to show you around.

Definitely look for what they have in the way of majors and minors...if you haven't chosen a major, then look for a school that has classes you are interested in taking.
Money is also a big issue. Not only should you look at the school's prices, but also the area around the school: rent for apartments, utilities, gas, and insurance. Books and tuition are not aways the largest portion of expenses and rent in Manhatten is way higher than here in Tampa.
Although this may seem superficial, look at the clubs and organizations that are on campus if you have narrowed it down to a few schools. Even though school is the biggest priority[B], you will still want something to do after the classes end and my University is a 90% commuter school, so thankfully I've been able to meet people through UPAN (pagan organization) and other clubs.
