Hey, how come no one ever goes into the Egyptian room anymore? As the oldest civilization in history both their history and cosmogonies can have a lot to offer, as both have had significant impacts on the world as we know it. It is quite interesting. I originally got into it because of some research i needed to do for a creative anachronism group I'm part of and became addicted once I realised how old and mysterious it really was. Take for example the Pyramids of Giza. Why were they built; and why do they line up exactly with the stars in Orions belt?

That's interesting, but I thought it'd been proven that even though they do now, that when they were built, they probably didn't?

Could be ....

They were known to have records of prognostications, so it wouldn't really suprise me. Or it could all just be coincidence....

Nope. There's no such thing as coincidence.

That is ... possible. :D

Coincidence? I think not. Predestination? Highly unlikely. For you see, inside each of the three pyramids is a hidden chamber along the airshaft in the center directly above the burial chamber, and the airshaft continues onward straight up to the peak of the pyramid. Now here's where it gets interesting; each "airshaft" as they're so called is pointed directly at its corresponding star in Orions belt. Proof of a civilition that was far ahead of their time?

Although the questions of why and for what purpose they were built still lie unanswered to this very day; why did the ancient Egyptians need to construct such elegant tombs on such a grand scale for their dead Pharoahs? And if that's all they were for, then why are there only three, why didn't all the other Pharoahs have a pyramid of there own to be buried in? We know they had the money; and slaves were well expendable.

Another question that still remains unanswered is how were they built? We know that the blocks had to have been quarried from somewhwere, but where? Egypt is basically one large vast desert, which would mean that if the blocks were quarried then it would have to have been done somewhere outside Egypt; and if so, then how could such large blocks have been transported over such a great distance? We've all seen the pictures of the slaves hauling the the blocks up the sides to build the pyramids, so we know how large the blocks were. How were they transported if quarried from a foriegn land?

I may have been confused, but I'm sure I was watching the same program. In it as I recall, (and Dragons are very good at recollection) they had determined that the layout of the pyramids corresponded to certain constellations, Orion was mentioned, as they were then. Not as they are now. This explains why it took so long to connect the dots so to speak. The Stars have a certain predictable movement, and at a fixed rate. They simply calculated the positions back to the time the pyramids and surrounding landmarks were established and voila! The rest as they say is history! The Egyptians and most other ancient civilizations were competent astronomers and the night sky was of great religious and social importance. They spent a significant amount of time to the study of the heavens, and due to the lack of light pollution we experience, their sky was far more impressive. When considering the Egyptians specifically, we must be very careful of our facts, since during the Victorian period there was a great deal of fascination with Egypt, and a lot of misinformation comes to us as fact from this era. Oops, way to much information, Hee, hee, but Us ol dragons do tend to ramble. :D

Good. Now here's the true question. For you see, the Pyramids of Giza do not yet line up exectly with the stars in Orion's belt, only almost exactly. What's going to happen when the Pyramids of Giza finally are exactly lined up with the stars in Orion's belt?

A question for the Sages.

Do you know what date this would be...or approximately anyway?

I have found through the help of a friends vision that the gods seem to have a thing for the number 12. My best guess would be 12/12/12.

I think you will be disappointed, The layout and alignment are past tense. They originally conformed to the constellation Orion, likely for observing certain dates, or sabbats, but who the heck knows anymore. They are in fact moving away from their original alignments at the gradual unhurried pace of an expanding universe, Sorry, no spaceship full of benevolent aliens coming to take us all home in 12/12/12. But if the idea really appeals to you hang on to it. :D Maybe you could start a cult ;)Hee,hee

P.S. The Egyptians weren't really so clever after all, All the hub bub about them understanding the concepts of advanced mathematics and Pi, then they figure out that if you simply make an object ie: pyramid twice as wide as it is high, you arrive at pi. The only way to have a large pile of rock remain stable is to make it twice as wide as it is high. So after several pyramid attempts collapsed, they came up with the simple formula of width twice the distance of it's height. The idea of Pi was completely lost to them. Whoa, Well Can't say I didn't warn you, Us Dragons do tend to ramble. :p

Word from the underground is that the Men in Black are on top of this situation and have everything under control... there is no need for alarm.

I think I did. there was also an old sci fi movie where they were trying to translate a book. The aliens were inviting humans to take a nice trip, and just when the shipload was leaving a guy runs up and yells that the alien book is a "Cook Book" Hee, hee. ;)

i dimly remember that movie too, it was based on the same story. i could likely find it but i'd have to dig through about 30 years of back issue "analog" magazines and about 2,000 sci-fi paperbacks or more. (i think they breed when i'm not looking..., or is it to do with the fact that my favorite "hangouts" are bookstores.) blessed be.

Well according to an interview I read we would taste like roast pork. I guess we should hide the garlic then! Get rid of all the salt and pepper too.
