Okay no this is not a dirty thread.. I had the WORST migrain 2 nights ago and I went to my fathers. He showed me a trick where he placed his hand over my wrist and held it there until his body heated my skin... I was sooo bizarre cause it worked ! My head ache was gone.. then he took his hand and swept the pain away..
As he kept doing this the pain was gone!
I was like astonished how this actually worked. I thought it was all in my mind but he said to me.. If its in ur mind then how does it work for me?" I was like i duno...
But for some reason it didnt work permanently I had to go to the hospital and get a shot of demerol. But the trick worked while his hand was there! :wtf:

Yeah he was working on a pressure point for you - there are tons of books and sites on it, very interesting info.

Yes... and the fact that the "Touching ones self" thread was coming right after the "Find your spot" thread didn't help.

This one time I had one at work and this guy massaged my hand and then rubbed my temples and then massaged my hand again and the migraine dissapeared.

 If you have an ice-cream headache, you take your thumb, and press the top of your mouth hard and it goes away. :)

I'm in the library. I was expecting to see something along the lines of:

There is a point on the back of your neck which, when pressed, relieves sinus pressure-

Accupressure... (Erm.. Shiatsu?) ... you generally touch a specific point, not just "Lay on hands" over a general area ... Sounds more to me like he's a Reiki practitioner... Or any number of other forms of energy healing... =)

I'm at the library too. I thought well I tried it. It worked for me. Not what I expected, but still chuckling :bigblue:

And it also makes you pass out, when pressed long and hard enough. :tub:

Actually I've heard sometimes similar. I read a natural medicine book a while back that suggested putting your hands in a bowl or basin of hotish water (not so hot it burns, but hotter then warm). I only very rarely get migraines so I've never tested it out.

that's similar to the "sleeper" hold in martial arts. though you wrap your arm around their neck, you can also press the back of the neck.

on thing to do to someone you don't like, such as your boss, when you shake his/her hand, bring your thumb in an press it against the area where the thumb and index finger. To be more accurate, it's just below the meaty part of the area. It's a cluster of nerves and if pressed hard enough will make their arm muscle tense up and bother them. Usually within 10-15 mins. :smoke:

I did nto think it sounded like accupressure or shiatsu. I thought it sounded more like energy healing. All can be quite effective.

Energy work enervates my migraines intensely. The second someone tries to help with energy I want to smack them...it's like being electrocuted.

well Reikki works around the same principles...so yes I it can work and does all the time.

Plus touch is great, most of us are touch deprived.

I have my husband squeeze the area between my thumb and pointy finger when I have a headache. always works, until he lets go.

Acupressure can work with some people. Usually it is the lung or liver meridian that is used. I treat people for this fairly often using a cranio-sacral technique that is very effective. Essentially, a migraine is high blood pressure in the head. If you do something to draw the blood away from the head, it can relieve the pressure. Cool footbaths can also be helpful. There is another way that we learned in training but I have never mentioned it to clients. It could be misunderstood too easily. It works on the principle mentioned before ie. drawing blood away from the brain. Masturbation or sex helps relieve migraines. See why I don't mention it to clients. Too easily misunderstood. Only problem is that you generally aren't in the mood when you have a migraine. :whatmewor
