Would anyone be interested in a Sociology/Cultural Awareness Class? I was thinking that at first, we could go over the basic concepts of Sociology, and then take a look at different cultures from around the world. Any takers?

I'm finishing up a degree in sociology...It'd be interesting *nods*
I don't know that I'd partiiciipate in the class, but I do know I'd be actively iinterested in people's responses.

I would be interested. I've never taken a sociology class but I absolutley loved the anthropology class I took. Other cultures fascinate me...espcially the tribal cultures and practicing. (I've studied tattooing/piercing and such among cultures).

I have three anthro classes under my belt and and considering going back for more. At this time I cannot. So I would definitely be interested in a class!

I don't see anything wrong in having the class taught here. I think it would be good b/c there are some cultures that I would learn about, but am not exactly sure how I would go about doing it. I vote yes on this one.
So yeah, just IM us when you have your class ready and I'm sure you'd get a lot of folks in there. :) Oh and we need banner too. Whose gonna make 'em? :clapping:

Just for reference...sociology doesn't deal with other cultures (that's anthropology) sociology deals with our own culture - "western" culture.
If you want a good ida of what you're looking at, try some books from these authors: Emile Durkheim, Max Weber, Charles Ellwood, Herbert Spencer, Lester Ward, and Franklin Giddings...some of the "founding fathers" of sociology...
I lean towards "deviant" sociology and feminist sociology, so if you're interested in these fields, I can supply a *huge* list of authors :)

Ahh, but there are plenty of places where anthropology and sociology overlap. (See Cultural Anthropologists.) ;)
Ok, well, if we have some interest, what points of culture, and which cultures do we want to take a look at? Should be start with a basic Sociology refresher course?
