Fourteen years ago, four year old Jasen cried for me when I joined the military. My unit was sent to Fort Hood to await orders to go to Iraq. I was still at basic in New Jersey. I wouldn't be going anywhere because of some serious health problems that led to a discharge a few months after finishing basic.
Today, I cried for Jasen. He joined the Marines several months ago. No one told me until after he left. Today, he left for Germany and from there he will be going to Iraq. No one told me he was even here until he was gone, so I didn't get to say goodbye. Feel free to do whatever you do in situations like this (pray, light a candle, send positive energy, etc). Jasen has always been special to me, more like the son I never had than the cousin he actually is.
