View Full Version : Intuition vs. will?

I've been pondering this question for a long time now, because I can't really come up with an answer that satisfies me. so, who better to ask than the MW crew?
I've never cast a nonsuccessful spell. I don't do much spell casting, but the ones I do perform are unerringly accurate. It leads me to wonder, when I pick a number, or pattern or whatever to focus on, is it really my intuition that is telling me to select that? Meaning, is my intuition, which is very strong, influencing my magickal work? I've picked things that I halfway thought were impossible---yet, they've all come true.
So, does intuition influence your will unconsciously in terms of ritual and magickal workings? Has this happened to you?
I'd love to hear your opinions on this.:)

For me I think its both. And they probably are in cahoots with each other too! :)

Too be honest with you I haven't given this much thought. When ever I was doing something it has never occured to me how I picked what I did or why I did it.

I think intuition is a very important part of magick.
When I prepare to do a spell, one of the first steps is always to do a divination in order to try and get the "lay of the land" and get ideas for how it might be best to do the spell. If the divination is very clear in telling me that it's a bad idea to do the spell, then I usually decide to not proceed.
After I've done the spell, I do a follow up divination to see if the spell is likely to succeed. It might suggest other things I need to do to follow up to try and ensure success.
Magick for me is largely about trying to be aware of the circumstances around the thing I am trying to manipulate, and being able to tip the events in ways that will work them out in my favour. Being able to do that means having knowledge whether the knowledge is conscious or subconscious. Intuition is one of the key ways to gain that knowledge. Divination is a tool for tapping into that intuition in a structured way.

Well, when magic really happens is when the two are not seperated. Intuition (your sense of the way things are/will be) melded with your will (your decision as to what should/will be.)

I have pondered the same thing more than once.
I think that those of us that spend time directing our energy into spells and magick have made a decision to take the steps necessary to get what we want. (or what we think we want)
Before doing a spell we have a clearer picture in our mindīs eye as to what we would like to achieve than someone who idly wishes for things and takes no action to change their current situation.
I think intuition plays a strong role in magick - it directs us, and helps us to make decisions based on what really is ACHIEVABLE .... and beyond that our intuitions help us to work when the timing is right and the outcomes will be the most sucessful. :)

Thank you all for sharing your perspectives on this. You've given me a lot to think about here. :)
