View Full Version : "Charging" a Pendant?

I have a silver pendant made for me at a Renaissance faire. It has become very dear to me; I rarely ever go without it. It has the symbol for "Om" on one side and a moon and star on the other. To me, it represents that male/ female duality of the Divine and is much more important to me than any crucifix/ cross of my Catholic upbringing. (I left Catholicism several years back.)
Is there a way for me to "charge" my special pendant, in order to grant myself more protection? (Would that make it an amulet or the other thingy? Sorry... It's getting past my bedtime, and I'm losing it. :sleepy:
I know that Catholics wear various pendants, rosaries, chaplets, etc. and pray over them for protection (more often from Mary, than not, it seems). I see this behavior as a link between at least Catholicism and Paganism (in terms of rituals and belief).

everyone charges things in different ways... i myself, when i wish to charge an item, hold it and close my eyes, focusing on sending some energy into that item. i think about what its purpose will be - protection, in your case! think about gaining more protection when you wear this pendant, and fill the pendant with the energy of your desire to have it protect you. once your hands start to feel tingly (v hot or v cold, for me it's a hot tingle), you'll know the energy is really starting to be sent into the item. :hugz:

Yes. Same basic methods you would use to charge anything else and a binding to keep it there. I don't know your path, so I don't know what to suggest... visualization or more ritualistic, etc.

Talisman.

As Viviene said you can hold it inside your palm, close your eyes, mdeditate a bit and feel your positive energy entering the pendant.
Also if you want to charge with protection energy you could invoke the protective energies of a Goddess,eg Brigid or a war Goddess, and ask them to charge them pendant and keep you saf.
You can also bless it with the 4 elements during a ritual.Pass it through the flame of a candle, through the smoke of the incense, spinkle it with salt and water.

Viviene,
No worries about telling me what I may want to hear. What you said makes perfect sense and, I believe, will work for me. Since I am not currently a practicing anything, much less Pagan, going about charging anything according to the rituals of a particular religion may not be the best idea, ya' know? I would feel like I'm faking something that shouldn't be toyed with. (I believe that you should be completely sincere if you're going to use, say, Wiccan rituals, etc.)
Thank you again for the advice. I will sincerely try it.

*I* don't know my own path, so that can make things tricky, eh? :hehehehe: As I posted to Viviene, though, I would not feel right using a ritual sacred to any particular religion (unless my belief in it were completely sincere). Sending energy into something without using any particular ritual (just holding it in my hand and mentally working up the energy to direct) would work perfectly for me, I think.

A little off subject, but I happen to agree with alot of things from alot of different religions. I agree with the 10 Commandments (mostly), but I'm not Christian. Same with alot of things from Buddhism, etc. I put it all together and make it work just for me.

Two methods which I have heard are quite popular, is charging it w/moon energy, which is exactly how it sounds...you expose it to the light of the waxing moon, starting w/the 1st night it starts waxing, until just before the full. Another one is smudging....you take a bundle of dried sage, either red or white, and you pass it through the smoke. When you allow it to be bathed in moonlight or smoke, you picture the moonlight or smoke banishing any outside influences, and imbuing it w/moon and earth power via the moon and sage.

I use visualization
just like Viviene said.
Your pendant sounds beautiful!

The method I use is very similar to the one Viviene mentioned, except for the fact that I visualize the energy as a color (whatever color represents protection to you) and I can see it move around my body sort of like a mist...I visualize it entering the talisman. My hands often feel warm and tingly while I'm doing this, and once the sensation as well as the color is gone, I know that the charging is finished.
Experiment and see what works best for you!
