I think that if you choose each other, than it is fine to have more than one familiar... (I wish I could have even one! I'm not allowed to have pets. :( )

I have a barn owl that lives outside that I talk to sometimes... I am patiently awaiting the time when I can find my familiar(s) and/or am allowed to have animals in my house. :(

Hope you can soon meet up with them. Our old man, Ozzy, has a very special place in all of our hearts. When we first got him he was afraid of everything and in fact I am not even sure he is the same cat we brought home. He has had many brushes with death...old guy and bounced back each time, with a very expensive vet bill in hand.. er paws. He seems to be a little different each time. On one visit to the vet we had basically asked the vet to put him to sleep as he was visibly suffering. The vet said hold on let me check some things out and I'll call ya later. I was more than a little surprised when he called telling me to come pick the nut up.
I have always had a connection to him but he and Mol started off rocky. I think he had been abused my a male in the past. Mol used to work nights and Ozzy started sleeping with me when Mol was working. He would jump in bed ready for some serious scratching and if Mol was there he would nearly break his neck trying to turn around and get outta there. They have learned to love each other now and even play sometimes.
Our son's puppy died this summer and Ozzy has really stepped in to fill the void. He never really liked Trey before.. who would like a toddler who chews on your ears and chases you?!?! But since the puppy passed on and Trey was asking questions about it we were ex-plaining that he went to live with God and he said, "Well Ozzy isn't going to live with him too." Ozzy literally looked up at him and walked over to him and started rubbing his head on him. This crazy cat that we have paid more money to keep alive than we have spent on groceries for us for a year had finally paid us back. Now him and Trey chase each other all over the house playing and half the time he sleeps with him, especially if Trey happens to be feeling sick.
Ramble ramble. I think my point was that not only can you have more than one familiar, many people can share familiars. I never would have thought it until now, but I know that he and Trey have a special bond as do Mol and myself with him. It is great and I hope you get yours soon. untill then enjoy your owl!!!

Funny thing happened just now. I was reading over the post I just typed to see if it made sense and Ozzy jumped up here on the back of my chair looked at it and started rubbing his head on me. Me thinks he approves!!

I personally only have one familiar, but that's because she chose me, not the other way around. I really had no interest in having a familiar before one night when I was doing a healing ritual on a friend of mine with the help of my husband. My friend had decided that it felt right for her to place offerings of bread at each of the corners of the circle, and I had not problems with this. At the time, I had kittens and they saw the bread go down and thought, "Free meal!" Suddenly my eldest cat in the home, Ogre, came up and swatted them away, and then proceeded to start walking the circumfrence of the circle for the entirety of the ritual, while I was healing my friend. Any time a kitten came near the circle, she'd swat them back and continue on her path. It was kinda cool.

Something similar to this was going around newsgroups last November ~ but the question was whether it was possible to have more than one totem, which I thought was a real hoot; I didn't stay on newsgroups long. :-( Anyway, yes, it's quite possible to have more than one totem, and it's quite possible to have more than one familiar.

We have 4 familiars and each of our animals (3 cats and a dog) have all been initiated into our coven. Only one has shown any interest in magick and that is our tortoishell Polly. She is very into healing too, so I tuned her in to Reiki, I wonder if she is the only Reiki Master cat?
The others don't seem very interested at all (except Flora will try and eat the offerings during meetings!)

I have 3 familiars. I don't know, there is just something about the dynamics of 3 - especially where cats are concerned. I have 3 males - 2 brothers. All are grey tiger cats. One is more of a familiar than the other two, but I can't imagine life without all of them.

I have my snake, I share a cat with my daughter, and a cat that is all mine. The momma cat that I share is a purebred siamese that jumped in my window one day to see my daughter. We kept her right before we moved into our current apartment she got out and got pregnant. When she went into labor she tried to have them on my back. Naillosotarrain got her off my back then she climbed into my lap where her water broke! We finally got her to give birth in the closet but she gave me each kitten as she cleaned it. One pair came to close togeather and she didn't have time to break it's cowl before the next showed up. Of course that kitten turned out to be my hubby's familiar! I never want to break one of those again I was afraid I would hurt the kitten before it broke. Recently I had someone saying that having more than one lessened the strength of a working and I disagreed. That led to my tossing the question into a broader field. You can see 3 of the kittens including Naillosotarrain's under pictures.:D

My family has two cats and a dog...The one cat, Kelly, I think would be the candidate for my familiar if any. She is, appropriately enough, a very delicate black cat, and has a bad case of chronic bronchitis from her former owners leaving her in an abandoned house. Because of this she sounds like Darth Vader. And likes to hide places while doing this to scare the crap out of guests.

i have one earth bound familiar and she chose me. she's a one year old rottweiler, her name (given by her owner i mean) is Maddy. she's my bestfriend's , boyfriend's dog.
i stay at my friend's place all the time and my friend also practices. in the upstairs of her house she has a room dedicated to wicca and that's where we get together in the winter. anyway, one night i was doing a ritual on my own, because Loradana was at work and her boyfriend had gone out for awhile. when he came back he had Lora' with him because he had picked her up at work, and it was really cold outside so they had decided to let the dogs in (Maddy is the rotty, and Shadow is the german shepherd) . I was just finishing up closing the circle when they came home so as soon as is was finished i went downstairs to visit. I didn't know the dogs were in the house and i hadn't met Maddy before. when i walked into the living room she got up and immediatly came over to me and sat at my feet. i wasn't afraid of her so i decided to pet her and when i did she began licking my hands as if i wasn't even a stranger. meanwhile Al and Lora' are going into shock!!! i noticed the weird expressions on their faces and i asked them what was wrong. they told me that she is never that friendly with strangers, and that she will NEVER go to a stranger just like that, not even to some of the people that she knows, except to Al and Lora'. after that she followed me around the house everywhere i went and if i sat down she would lie down at my feet. later i was going to go upstairs to meditate and she wanted to come with me but she's not allowed upstairs, (new carpet) so i stayed downstairs and meditated and she laid down beside me till i finished. she's Al's baby girl and listens to him without question but when he tried calling her she wouldn't go to him until i said it was alright for her to go. that' how she chose me! :)

Well we have four cats and a dog. The dog he is more my shadow. A black cockapoo who is now turning very much grey and somewhat arthritic. Have had him since he was a pup and i worry about him.
There are four of us in the house and four cats. LOL. Fritz has glommed onto my son. He is the eldest. The hubby found him before he met me - someone had dumped him. Fritz was with the in-laws and my mother in law decided to have him put down (he was messing everywhere). She told the hubby knowing full well that Fritz would go home with us. Anyway he is the boy's cat and follows him everywhere and has been partial to Zach since we brought Zach home from the hospital.
Then there is Touchdown. The hubby brought her home from the pound. She thinks she is a dog. Kissy kissy and she thinks the bed is her domain.
My cat Hera. She's a tiger stripe who was born at a farm. For some reason I was really drawn to her when she still had her eyes closed. Once she started scampering around she was a wee tease. She would look at me and dash off and then stop, meow like she was saying "well come on scritch my ears". So one day I just picked her up after talking to the owner of the barn and took her into the car with me. I always figured she chose me. We will sit and stare at the full moon together and stuff like that and whenever I do a ritual or something she is there.
Then there is Celtic. Someone dumped her one winter after she outgrew the kitten stage and she followed my son home. New Year's day. It was cold out and we put food out for her and she has this pixie face smashed to our patio door and the hubby let her in since it was so cold. Voila! Fourth kitty. My daughter, who is six, has claimed Celtic as her familiar. Though I had never shared familiar information with her. Celtic actually named herself. We couldn't decide upon a name for her. We had Celtic, Bast, Egypt, and Star I think. There were a couple of others. So I wrote each name on a piece of paper and balled them up and threw them in a bowl. Celtic was pawing around in the bowl and scooped one piece up and batted it out. Then she just sat there purring as I opened the paper. Celtic. So I tell the kids she has decided Celtic and when I did that she started purring even louder and seemed to approve.
I wouldn't say they are all familiars but, strangely enough, whenever I do a protection or cleansing ritual for the home all four of them take part. Each sprawls out in one quarter. Hera always takes south. Fritz the north. Touchdown the West and Celtic the East. My pooch General will lay under the altar and snore. Otherwise it is just Celtic and Hera that seem at all interested.
