I watched Deep Impact again the other night, and wondered what your priorities and personal attitudes would be if we were warned of a possible asteroid collision, tell me what you would do within your final week before the impact.

Well faced with the inevitable end of existence in less then a week (alkong with the rest of the planet) I guess quitting my job and throwing my boss into a large pool of lime jello wouldnt be any good because they would be gone too.. I would head up to canada and hide in the trees and wait for the end with the green man and his kin.. yeah... and uhm I would bring coffee.... and .. all the Krispy Kreme donuts I can pack in my truck.

I'd live my life as normal, because I know that all of existance will not be ended by an asteroid/comet.
No problems for me.

ewww krispy kreme donuts...
Ive tried them after people made a big deal about them. I dont find them any more special than any other donut.
I am however IN LOVE with Tim Hortons (Canadian)!
Their coffee is soo good.. People Almost always go to a donut shop for coffee not the donuts hehehe

I would just spend time with my family and have a good time before it happened.

On The Beach is a novel that treats this same question, but from the perspective of a global nuclear disaster. Some people pretended like it was business as usual. Some became reckless daredevils. And some lived things up as much as possible.
I think there would be too much mayhem to go anywhere really fun, so I'd probably just spend the remaining days at home, reading, writing, thinking, and being a pleasant lush.

Because that's about something I would do as well.
Actually, for me ...
I'd be away to County Down, Northern Ireland like a shot!!
Of course ...
Trying to fit a lifetime of happiness into one week, seems terribly unfair.
But it's a wonderful reminder that we should infact, be living our lives as though we only had one week left to us.

I've got diabetes, so I have to watch what I eat, but in THAT situation I'd be surrounding myself with pasta and candy and just going for it. :p Of course I'd want my family around too, but a carb binge would be a definite must. :p Oh and non-diet soda. Mmmmmmmmmm. I wouldn't be too worried about dying myself, but I'd worry that my kids would be scared if they knew what was going on. :(

I would be with my children the whole time,
holding them tight telling them how much I love them.
Playing with them so they wouldnt have a clue what was
going on.
I hate those type of movies :(

The reason why I'd do the same thing as I'm doing now... is that I'm happy with the way my life is... there's nothing I'd "rather be doing". No regrets.
If you can think of something more important to your happiness than what you are doing now, then I suggest that you go ahead and do it.

are you serious? so if i told you that you were going to die in seven days (lets say youve gone to a mountain cabin and watched a video tape or something like that) you'd live life as normal? do nothing out of the ordinary? do nothing to make your last days any better? unless you live in a perpetual paradise, i seeeriously doubt that youd make absolutely no changes.
hmm, and its true that all of existence wouldnt be destroyed, but have you got some secret knowledge as to the whereabouts of life on other planets? for all we know we're all we got. oh we have laws of probability that state that its highly likely there is life elsewhere, but look at the conditions that are necessary for life. earth's pretty singular, you know that of all the planets outside of our solar system that we know of, like 80%+ have orbital periods (years) that last less than a fortnight i.e. theyre so close to their stars that theyre, well, liquid. earth life is cool.
hehe, ive considered this one before. one week, well i wouldnt study but i'd read heaps, i'd force myself to learn how to do that astral projection thing in a week, id probably sleep with a few/waaaaaay too many people, id blab all my secrets and become a nudist too, and then on the last day, id spend the day with my best friend up at this spot we've picked for when it rains fire (great view of the entire city, yet never crowded!) this was if i was sure i was gunna die. if there was a chance of living, hmm and it didnt involve toooooo much effort, id probably go with the living.

I don't live in paradise, but then, I don't have anything I'd rather be doing either. I mean, I'm sure i'd probably say goodbye to people, let them know how I feel about them... but I do that to a limited extent as it is... no, there would be nothing MAJOR I would change.

Has nothing to do with probability, or life elsewhere... I KNOW that all human life on earth will NOT be wiped out by a comet/asteroid. It's a matter of reality and the perception thereof.
