Hey everyone I am writting an opinion paper on the word "parent". Btu by doing this I need to get the Regional or National definition of that word. basically i need to find out what everyone thinks the word "parent" means.

So can You please help me by giving me your definition of the word

Help is greatly appericated. :)

scientifically speaking, parent is defined by an organism that produces or generates offspring. Sociologically speaking, a parent is anyone who raises and/or nurtures a child.

i remember reading that up until recently parent was a noun, and now it is used more often as a verb. a comment on how parents are supposed to deal with their children. maybe you can write a bit about that angle. a sociological slant.

Parent to me means, to love , protect, feed, clothe, teach, share, respect a child to help them grow up feeling secure into a young adult who is confident they can make it on their own.

OHHHH good replies keep them coming.. I am angling more towards the noun definition and trying to get a regional opinion or national opinion of what the word "parent means" and in my area of nowhere's ville it is a pain trying to get intelligent answers

why not just look it up? maybe look it up on parenting sites, rather than message boards. given how late it is you may get better results checking say- dr. spock sites

I had a "foster parent" that was a better parent than anyone in my family. I refer to her as my mother... she was there when my children were born, still helps out my family when she can.

So I don't think genetics are the only thing a parent provides, nor is it limited to blood ties.
