So I've come to the realization lately that I actually dispise my job! Unfortunately I can't just quit because we need the money and it also has health benefits which we can't afford to lose right now. It's not the actual work that's getting to me, it's the people I talk to all day long (I'm a customer service rep for a cable company). It's like some customers just wait for something to go wrong, get themselves all worked up and then call in screaming like fools, like that's going to get things done any quicker! Or they think that I can pull things out of my back pocket and fix all things over the phone. I'm a cable god don't ya know!!
I know I should get out of there, but right now I just can't, and since I've been leaving work early a lot lately, I also need to start going everyday, for my entire shift, the thought of this is seriously not appealing! grrrrrr...
ok..I'm ending my rant now or I'd just go on and on and on....if anybody knows how to make a bad job a bit better please let me know!!

Can you transfer to another department?
Or look for another (better) one in the mean time?

I've been trying to transfer for a while now, there's just nothing open, and as for better in the mean time, the only jobs around this area right now are minimum wage retail with no benefits, now I'm not knocking that type of job at all, and I'd probably enjoy it a lot more, however it would be a considerable pay cut that I really can't afford right now and I can't afford to not have the medical benefits that I have at the moment. Hubby's in school and isn't bringing in too much money right now so it's pretty much all on me at the moment, which I don't mind all that much because I get my turn to go back once he's done, but it's getting really hard to stick this out for the time being..

I do sympathise with you. I know (being a cable customer) how the whole system is set up to put callers in the worst of moods before they even get to speak to a human being, what with having to go through endless lists of options, wait in interminable queues, and all at your own expense, when you're already stressed because the telly or the digibox or the computer won't work and you want to know exactly precisely to the last details what's happened and exactly precisely to the second when it will be fixed and you are the poor sod on the receiving end of all the stress and grief.
It must take, I think, someone very special to be able to put up with all that and still survive. You need to have some mechanism to dump all that stress at the end of the shift, even if you can't let it flow through you at the time.
And remember, and hold on to the fact that at least _some_ of your callers will be really grateful for what you can do for them.
But it's truly not a job that I'd ever do myself or recommend to anyone else :-(
