Hi All,

I have heard of a Kitchen Witch for some time but recently I am seeing references for Cottage, Hedge, and Hearth Witch. Are these names for the same path or are they similar with slightly different focus? The names seem to apply Kitchen Witch = cooking and baking. Hedge Witch = gardening and outdoors. Not sure about the other two.....

Thanks for any opinions or insights!

No, there's not any real difference between them.

Yonks ago, the norm was for almost all Pagans to be Wiccans and for almost all Wiccans to be coveners.

But then a strand of Witches emerged who worked mostly solitary, without elaborate kit or trappings, living magick as part of their daily lives, living "green" ways as much as possible, attuning themselves to the seasons and to the cycles of sun and moon, and so on. Now they are quite common.

IIRC, the original term was hedge witch (following a justly famous book by Rae Beth and the others are just variants.

I was under the impression that a kitchen witch takes a less ritualised approach to their practises as well. Like some Wiccans won't use their athame for cutting, or anything other than ritual, but a kitchen witch will use what comes to hand...?

First off I would assume there are small differences in the 3..maybe even tiny ones like just the way they work with things. I haven't studied much on these but I do know that with kitchen witches they use say a knife as an athame and to cut up fruits and veggies..a cauldron or something of the sort in magical/spiritual workings as well as cooking...like ap said they don't separate their magical and mundane lives.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
