Anyone live/has lived in a Haunted House?

I lived in one when I was about 13 yrs old..
I was forever seeing ghosts...My sister as well.
My sister would see this older woman and I would see a young pale girl with dark hair and a white gown or long dress.. she was see through and with a light white glow all around her.
I would even have dreams about her..

To this day I cant help but feel that she was trying to tell me something..
I just wish I knew what it was.

I grew up in a haunted house, the ghost of a hobo who died in a house fire used to walk up the stairs and across the floor. Later on the footsteps would repeat yet no one had ever come down the stairs.

After I was married we had an entity living with us, but I wouldn't call it a ghost. Apparently my ex got custody of the entity in the divorce because I kept the house but never saw the entity again. :T

Yeah, the house I used to live in was 'haunted'.. I could only see them out the corner of my eye, though; but there were constantly just random noises (not really creepy, just kinda like a squirrel in the attic or something), usually the same time each day. My dad saw them more than I did, but I knew they were there.

The house I live in now is sort of haunted, in that we do have a ghost, but I'm not sure it's haunting the house so much as it's haunting me. I'm pretty sure she's my great grandmother. No reason to be here other than to see me and my family. She used to sneak up on me a lot, play with my hair, mess with my computer chair if I stayed up too late surfing, stuff like that. I also had a LOT of dreams about her. She got more and more aggressive until I finally got a bunch of pictures from my mom one day and in one of them was a picture of my ghost! It was my great grandmother! She died when I was 9 months old so I had no idea what she looked like. So I told her, "If it's really you, can you please cut the crap? You're driving me insane!!!" Since then she doesn't do much, but if I lose something I can ask her if she can find it and the next day it'll be sitting in the middle of the living room floor. If it's something small or that the kids could hurt themselves with, it's always in this one drawer of the hutch in our mudroom. Pretty convenient. Sometimes I still see her out of the corner of my eye, and she'll mess with my hair if I am staying up way too late or am sick or something. It's like she's letting me know that she thinks I should go to bed now. LOL I think she just wanted me to figure out who she was before. We've also had a few other...things...pass through. They didn't feel the same. I really couldn't tell if they were the ghost of someone who actually lived before, or just some negative energy...thing. I don't really know what to call them. Luckily they never stayed long.

The house I grew up in is the real interesting story. I should just start a webpage about it or something. So many scary things happened to me in that house it would take forever to tell it. I still have nightmares about that place. *shudder* My stepdad and at least one of my best friends saw things there too. The first time my stepdad stepped foot in the house he said "Whoa...you know this place is haunted, right?" LOL

We have some old guy who stomps around the house in heavy boots and with an attitude. We've heard him walking around on the roof. A few times a year we hear a screen door slam in the front (differnt door than is installed at this time) and he stomps through the house to the back. Twice he's been in the kitchen knocking things over. There was a brief episode when he would walk down the stairwell to the basement where I live and around 3 in the morning and kick the bed. The first night, I was pretty paralyzed with surprise. The second night, I startled awake and just got mad. The third night I was ready for him....I jumped out of bed and swore at him like a sailor and threatended to skin him alive and who knows what else came out of my mouth but I was PISSED. We didn't hear him again for more than 5 years (the idea of it still makes me laugh). We still hear him walk through the house a couple times a year now but there's none of that stomping or nasty mad old man energy that lingers.

We have various and sundry other spirits show up.... more so now that a funeral home has opened down the street (now THAT wasn't something I was happy about!!). I have a little parrot who see's them all.... often before I sense them. She's not very happy about it either....

Hm, I can relate to that I think. The house I grew up in is filled with ghosts and other non-physical things I don't know what to call. Like, energy-sucking shadow creature living in the staircase, a ghost girl who tried to contact me during my pre-teens, listening to loud conversations downstairs when the rest of my family were asleep, being chased up the stairs by things I could or could not see... Once, I felt that my cat wanted to get in (I often did that, and it was always right), but instead of my cat, a little black shadow-thingy got inside instead! How was it able to manipulate me into letting it in? It upset me that it used my bond with my cat like that... But the big shadow creature was a nightmare. Looking back I find it hard to belive I didn't move into the garage or something. :foh:

I got some not-so-proffesional help to get rid of it, and it worked! The next couple of weeks everything else got worse though. But then it all calmed down and now it is possible for me to visit my parents without freaking out. (my parents were never affected by this)

I cant be in a house ten minutes without knowing if there was some kinda death or something in it. I get this eerie feeling. I cant go into a graveyard.. Something stops me. I have been able to go in only twice.. Once on my best friends funeral, and once on my grandfathers.. I havent been able to enter since.. So, its sorta like i have one chance to say goodbye and then i have to talk from the gates. I can usually tell someone what the purpose of thier "spirit" is.
I had a friend that had a nasty one. But it purpose was to get them to straighten out thier lives.
The idea of a ghost or spirit makes my heart stop.. But its weird. I am living with one now. Who, ironically, likes to freeze my room and play with my lights.. If i am the only person in a room, they will dim them or flick them on and off... Sorta like " you who, over here, pay attention to me" I dont think it has a purpose, its just a lonely spirit as far as i can tell.. I could be wrong though.

well, my house isn't exactly haunted, more like "spiritually occupied". There are spirits who live here. I have seen, heard, and witnessed their presence, but they don't bother anybody, and we don't really bother them, so we pretty much just live with each other.

That's like my house - there's a spirit which is usually quite nasty & spiteful, but to be honest I haven't heard from him in a while...

I'm not sure I could consider my house haunted LOL
But I live next door to a cemetary and have very 'frequent' visitors.
I have not made my home offlimits to the spirit realm and don't think I ever will.
Yes once in a while I have to 'remind' them to behave and play nice but not real often.
:fpeek:
I have always lived next to cemetaries so the Spirit Realm to me is just an extension of this plane and not one that can be closed off or excluded .. and only accessed at Samhain. I deal with spirits, both good and bad on a daily basis. It's part of who I am and what I am I think.

Like, energy-sucking shadow creature living in the staircase

Okay, now that's freaking me out because that sounds just like the thing at my old house that my stepdad was actually able to sense too! I could sort of see it (just a vaguely man shaped shadow) and I always had to take a deep breath and force myself to run past it. He always stood at the top of the stairs, and I could tell he was just laughing his butt off watching me try to get up the nerve to get by him. I would never go to the bathroom in the middle of the night because I just didn't dare to "take him on" in the dark. It was always ice cold, and a few times I got dizzy if I took too long to get through him. He never left the upstairs hallway, but sometimes he'd just stand in the doorway to my room and stare until I closed the door. My door was only about 3 feet from the top step...he didn't seem to have a very long "leash", if you know what I mean. My stepdad couldn't see anything, but he agreed with me that it was there and he hated it too. Our cats would act weird in the stairway too. One of our dogs used to lay in the spot where he was all the time though. I never liked that dog!

I've always been able to tell if a place is haunted before I step foot inside. When my parents first bought the property that they eventually built that house on, I had a panick attack and begged them not to move there and insisted on staying with my grandmother for a few weeks before they could convince me to go live there with them. I really, truly hate it there. I got to talk to a girl once who lived in a house that burned down on that exact spot a year before we moved there. She said her house was haunted too and wished me luck. The man who bought the place from my mom lived there for a few months (if that long) and then seems to have abandoned it. I wonder why... :p The St. Patrick's Day decorations my mom had left in the front window were still there for a few years until they seem to have just fallen down. It's really creepy.

There were a lot more things there, but that shadow thing was probably the worst!

the house i moved from in august was absolutely full of spirits, it was a big, old house.. but this one doesn't have any. i never bothered to try and remove them because they were just lurkers. i was never sure, but i think one of them followed me from newark, to delaware, and then to columbus.... i'm not sure why he didn't come with us this time... guess he likes columbus *shrug*... but he was a little creepy, so it works for me. i don't remove them tho, they are usually just there to hang out.

I wonder what it is with leashes?
The one in my house is like that too - he lingers in the spare room and on the hall, but will not enter my bedroom or reach the bathroom at the other end of the hall. (infact, he rather enjoys running at me in full speed screaming, and then stopping inches from my face :flamer: ) I wont go to the bathroom during the night if he's on the hall, but if he's in the spare-room I run to it (it's just next door luckily). Disturbingly enough though, the spare-room is the one I had since I was born, to aged 10 :twitch:

The house I grew up in had the ghost of a cop who was killed during prohibition. I researched it and found out that prohibition was actually a big deal in my hometown. GO figure!

Any theories?

Here is another one for you ... before I respond to those posted since this morning.

When I was growing up we lived in a house that was part of the underground railroad. Most kids have 'imaginary friends', well mine was the ghost of an actual slave girl who died in the house.

It was awesome.

Many of our 'guests' are active ... 'talkative' as if they finally know they have 'an ear' or something.

Take one just this past week ... not sure what was up but all day smelt hot buttered freshly popped popcorn. Our windows were closed, no house near enough to have the smell come from it and I was home alone.

I simply welcomed the spirit and told them they could stay ... as long as they behaved, pretty much the only rule I have. They are allowed to play 'pranks' and move things etc, make all the noise they want ... but no harm is to come to anyone (human/feline/fellow spirit) or they will be out on their perverbial ear.

Phoenix - how do you deal with nasty spirits?

When I was first studying Wicca and Paganism I got involved in a group near where we lived. It turned out they were not such a nice group, found out after I left when the leader of the group decided to 'come after me' with magick, spirits etc. She was a pretty powerful 'something' .... witch is too kind of word for her. (sorry :()

I learned quickly what I could and could not do, and after the first few encounters where she had the upper hand she quickly lost steam. I have found that in most cases if I am 'attacked' on my own turf the 'nicer spirits' deal with those who are making trouble for me.

On others territory (ie anothers home or something) it takes a little more persuasion .. This gets a little hard to explain because it is usually done in the spirit realm and I don't remember much of what happened here in the physical.

Feel free to PM me or find me in the IRC channel and I will explain more if I can.

The only thing i have found to get rid of "nasties" is a little candle magic and just simply talking to them... If you state what you want and tell them the terms and say that if they cant handle it , leave. They usually behave... If not i have other solutions too, just PM me and i will give you multiple other choices too...
The two times i entered a grave yard i brought "FRIENDS" home with me.. Not intentionally, they just fallowed... Some were good others were not. They bugged, nagged, and played dirty tricks.

Wow, it was just like that when I tried to get up the stairs in one piece... horrible!
Our shadow thing would try to attach itself to my back. If it succeeded, it would drain me and make me fatigued. It was possible to "shake" it of though. I saw it really clearly once, it was human size but not shaped as one. It couldn't get passed the little hallway on the top of the stairs though. It couldn't move through walls either. It tried to follow me several times through the door, but i put up a shield wich stopped it. I don't know what I would have done if it had followed me into my bedroom...

A year or so after we got rid of it, we discovered that there had been a very dramatic death of a middle aged man right by the staircase many years ago...
I had heard about these shadow creatures other places, but it always said they were attracted to places of negative energy or if they had been invited to the place. I couldn't get this to match with my situation, but when I learned about that death in our house, it made sense.
Now, if it was the man himself or some other thing just attracted to the place because of him, I don't know...

We have a couple of ghosts. One was the lady who owned the house before us. She would manifest as a presence at the top of the stairs combined with a smell of pee. We didn't understand what it was about at first, because we thought that she'd died in bed, but eventually we found out that she'd died while carrying her chamber pot to the bathroom during the night. She's sort of faded away now and we haven't experienced her for years, something which I've vaguely put down to our having decorated and hoovered the traces of her away.

The other one is a little black cat. We saw him one sunny morning run along the outside window sill, an obvious spirit. I reached out for him mentally and got a huge wave of happiness come back to me. Seen him several times since, he usually runs in and out of the house or one of the rooms just as you open the door.

How cute. My cat, Simba, used to occupy our house. He even followed us to school when we were little sometimes... I would be in an assembly, and then there would be this white cat there, and I would try to pet him, but obviously there was nothing physically there.

Grew up in a haunted house and live in one now. The apartments I have lived in were not haunted though. The spirits that are in this house are no bother to me for the most part. The only thing that creeps me out is the thing in the room beside mine. I'm unsure if whatever is in that room can come in mine or into the hallway it hasn't so far. I could not sleep one night about 2 weeks ago and I got up to go outside for a few minutes .When I walked past I saw the TV on and some old 1960s type of designs and colors reflecting from the TV onto the window. No one has been in that room since May of this year.I did not go in there and turn off that TV!! LOL I got up the next morning and it was turned off. This thing seems to only like to act out very late at nite.Anyways before I go to bed at night I make sure the bedroom door is locked.I have never done this before and do not know why I feel the need to but I do.I have asked the other people in the house if they have been in that room or turned on things like a light or a TV in there. No one has that is living.I am the only night owl here.( My SO works graveyard shifts.)I feel every negative energies from that room and that thing.

For the most part, there have been occurances in most of the homes I've lived in. In the house where I grew up, we had a polterguist that would happen when I was going through puberty. Now, I realize that was just excess energy, but at the time it was a little bit freaky. Then, when my family and I moved into a new house in 1997, we bought it from an old guy. A few years later, weird stuff started happening... I saw a man out of the corner of my eye and 'knew' that he was old. When I looked, he was gone. Heavy footsteps in the kitchen, blinds moving as though someone was running their hand across them... seeing movement outside the windows, like someone was passing, though no one was there.

After all this, it became less scary, but it was still a relief when I moved out of my parents into my own apartment. Until the guy above me died. He was a lonely guy, gave me a plant when I moved in, had a reputation for trying to give people food to help them out (but it was unwanted). He creeped some people out, I think. Anyway, it was my first experience where I was physically touched by a ghost. He felt me up. Literally. It was very odd. And he'd pick up my ponytail and tickle the back of my neck. And then I felt watched in the shower.

A covenmates daughter suggested I make out with my boyfriend to get the ghostie jealous, and see what happened. So, I tried it, and the ghost poked me HARD in the side. I was so pissed. I lost it and just started YELLING at it. My boyfriend thought I was crazy. But it did the trick. Mostly... sometimes I get the feeling that he's back... and I just tell him to go away and he does.

Well, thats my experience.

Yes, I lived in a truly haunted house from 1968 until 1973. The house had previously been a Catholic Rectory and the Parish had difficulty selling it as it was rumoured to be haunted (as with most rumours, it was true).

The house went to my parents for a mere $6000.00, having been appraised at about 2.5 times that amount, it had been empty for 7 years.

We moved in with 5 children and experienced not just hauntings, but poltergeist activity. All of the life we brought to that house provided energy for many restless entities.

Evidently, the priests who had lived there had unfinished business that tied them to the site.

Every night there was pacing in the attic, and you could here boxes being moved around, things were always being moved about in the attic at night, it was quite frightening to lay in bed and listen to all of the activity upstairs.

We also had experiences where one spirit played and entertained my infant brother during nap times, my older brother, 14 at the time, was confronted by a spirit in need of help, crying tears of blood.

I myself was caught in the middle of one spirit aggressively searching the house and moving furniture around and was very frightened.

There were sooooo many experiences in that home, too many to recall, but seeing a dresser slide out from a wall and then slam back against it while home alone at the age of eight, and your collie barking and carrying on certainly left an effect on me.

Perhaps my early interaction with the other side led me to become what I am today!

Bright Blessings!

My grandmothers house was haunted, but it was my grandfather. I never felt or saw anything strange until he died. One night, at about 2am I was watching tv. It was hot and I was in shorts and a take top. I felt a cold, cold hand touch my right leg, just above my knee. Needless to say I freaked out. LOL I calmly said "Papa, if that's you, please go away". And it did. From that day on I knew he was there.

My ex husband and I lived there while I took care of my grandmother. We were always seeing crazy things. One night while I was out he said "Okay, if you're Jen's grandpa, give me a sign". Damned if my grandmother didn't come out 15 minutes later to give my ex a pair of my grandpa's pj's. LOL

I can't say my mother's house was haunted, but strange - strange things happened there. My sister and I both expierienced things like the other calling us, when in reality we hadn't. Many nights we slept in the same bed, and we were teenagers!! LOL

One night (after I had moved out) she had this dream that a demon type thing was about to grab her out of the bed, the cat hissed towards where the demon thing was and woke her up. She slept in my room from then on out. It was an odd house, indeed.

My parents lived in a haunted house when I was born. The house used to be a parsonage, but I don't know if that has anything to do with its being haunted. Still, the combination is creepy, and I can think of all sorts of stories that could be told about a haunted parsonage.

There was a light switch at the top and at the bottom of the stairs. My mom would turn the light on, a ghost would turn it off. They would have light switch fights all the time...

The front door was found open in the morning all the time. Many times there was banging at the door, sometimes as long as ten minutes at a time, and when they looked through the peephole -- even while the banging was going on -- there was nothing there.

My mom was locked out of her car and the house many times... no matter how careful she was.

To this day, neither of my parents can stop dreaming about the house (which they only lived in for three years). I don't know if anyone who's familiar with dream interpretation could comment on this: they both have the same dreams, about the house having many more rooms, and more floors than it actually had.

Do you think I should write the current residents a letter, asking if they have any ghost stories to tell? :)

The house I live in used to occupy it's former resident. A very nice lady, Mrs. Potter (who does have a son called Harold, freaked me out when I read the deed to the house). I smudged the house and told he it was ok for her to stay but there was no need to. My wife has hear her in the kitchen making breakfast from time to time.
The house my Grandparents lived in was haunted. I was told that the house used to be across the road from where it stands now. I know that for a fact. The hosue is about a hundred year old Queen Anne / Gingerbread Victorian house.Rumor has it when it was across the road the last owner was distraught because she has a daughter.. after her husband died. From what I was told it wasn't clear if it was his or not, but some of the townsfolk "dissed" her. So she hung herself in the barn (that was torn down after the move. Not sure if it was true or not, but a good story. My grand mother passed away in the house unexpectly and I was never told where, but I always felt a cold spot in this one area and refused to walk through it. I would always walk around it.

When I was 18 my family moved into a house that was haunted. The house had belonged to an elderly french very catholic couple before they died. The first thing we noticed was that the basement light kept turning on by itself, and every once in a while we would hear this weird noise come from the basement. For the longest time we couldn't figure out what it was, until one day my dad went downstairs and opened up the door of the deep freezer, that was it, that was the sound we had been hearing. There was a bedroom upstairs that for some reason nobody seemed to want for their bedroom, even though it was the biggest room. Not only was it the biggest room it had a separate room off the side of it. You would have thought we'd be fighting over it but we didn't, there was just a creeply feeling to the room we later found out that the room attached to it used to be their prayer room. There was one incident that i will never forget, I was sitting watching tv one night and no one else was home. When something leaned over and right in my ear let out an evil laugh...Thankfully after about six months in the house it seems the ghosts left because we never had any incident after that.

I grew up on "tainted" land. every house that had ever sat on it had burned down (including the one i'd lived in and the last three to be there since)
Even wet sheets hanging out on the line would burst into flames for no reason.

Now, I live in a house that is the first ever to be on this land... but we STILL have ghosts.
One is a woman who has even shown me her grave in the cemetary just up the road from us... she's very nice and likes to look out for our yongest daughter.

another is a man who has decided he's our farmhand and looks after the chickens for us.

Then there's the Banger.. that's what we call him... he LOVES to scare my Husband, tom.
When ever he's home alone.. the Banger does just that.. bangs like crazy on the doors until Tom goes outside. Once he even locked him out od the house! LOL
But other than that.. he's actually harmless.

there's also the Walkers. The just walk the old indian trail in the back yard. You'll get glimpses... but that's about all.

and lastly, there's the Knocker. 9am, 12:30pm, 1am, and 3am a single knock (the late night ones only if you're awake.. tried to get it on tape but nothing) if you don't say good morning at the 9am knock it'll keep knocking once every 30 seconds until you do. LOL

Yup!

My grandparent's house ages ago was haunted...I saw ghosts from age 4 to age 8 or so, until they moved. They saw nothing. But I remember everything so vividly...and they weren't your typical ghost. No lights...not human shaped. Maybe more along the lines of astral type entities? I do know, however, that I was visited by what I now think were shadow people in one incident...that was the only time as a kid when I was actually frightened of the spirits. Other than that...I looked forward to them. But, I'll go more into that later! Don't have a lot of time, and a TON of stuff happened! XD

Currently, the house I live in is inhabited...and it's a recent deal, too, as we've lived here for 14 years and it just started happening in the last...about 6 years? The first incident involved my music box...I have a music box that I keep on my top shelf (which I cannot reach without a stool) and it plays music when a drawer in it is pulled out. Well, at 4 AM one morning I woke to the sound of music...and discovered it was coming from the box. I got a stool...and discovered the drawer was pulled out all the way. O_O

This happened a second time a few months later.

Today...yep, the ghost is a poltergeist for sure.

+ I got my shaving razor tossed at me (not exactly AT me, but thrown at the place I had been standing seconds before)

+ Home alone at night, a stack of pepsi cases (that had been standing there for weeks and was very sturdy) was knocked over at random right in front of me.

+ At a family get together while everyone was in the livingroom, the cupboard in the kitchen suddenly burst open as a bunch of tupperware fell out. Which was, again, firmly in place and had no reason to do so, and had never before done so.

+ Doors will randomly swing, even when all windows are closed and I'm the only person in the house and my dog is sound asleep.

+ This thing really enjoys touching me. It plays with my hair, and I'll randomly get the sensation of fingers trailing along my skin, or poking me, when I'm in the house. This is a really recent occurance.

+ I'll see glowing spots on my wall that have nothing to do with lights outside. I've tested it out to be sure they weren't caused by something explainable, even with my friend (who has seen them before and been disturbed by them) present; they're always in a different place, too. Usually, they go away if I tell them to. ^^;;

I think the ghost I live with must have been a really cute old guy when alive. He seems to have a really cheerful teasing sense of humor, and just likes the attention that he gets from it. He never makes noises (that I can hear, my sister has heard something, but I don't think it's him), and when he pops up it's when I'm least expecting it, like a little kid jumping out at his sisters for a laugh, and when I figure out that it's him, he decides to play hide and go seek again. He hasn't ever done anything truly scary, he just seems to feel at home with us. And vice versa. We've had more than one guest (for some reason all my blood relations) meet up with him, and from all descriptions I think we have figured out who he is. Our house was built by an older man as his retirement cottage (it's a really small house) but after he had only lived in it a short while he fell ill and his family took him off to live with them until he died. I think he just missed the place and decided to stay.
We do, however have something in the shed out back that does NOT seem to be friendly. The first day we were in our house I told my husband that I thought it was haunted and that he was crazy if he thought I was ever going near it again. And I haven't set one foot inside it since, but I have felt something very angry and hostile from that area. I wonder what would happen if we had it bulldozed?

Never makes noises!!! Bahh He has the loudest footsteps I've ever heard! And he enjoys watching me while I sleep when I stay there!

Any way I've had tons of experences in the house I live in with our parents. It's weird though it is the only house to ever have been there and our family built it the year before I was born. There are no cemitaries or funeral homes any where near it. Maybe an old indian burial ground? or maybe they've just followed me home, Quite a few people have made comments about me being a ghost magnet *sigh*

So now I'm wondering...why is it that some seem to only stay in a certain spot, and others, like my great grandmother, can follow you around when you move from place to place?

Any theories?

Ok this is just a theory..but perhaps it has to do with why they have stayed behind. From what i know spirits stay behind because something is unresolved, they died tragically or wern't ready to die and have not accepted that they died. I'm wondering if the ones who seem to have a leash, if something tragic happened in that particular area, perhaps they died there, while the ones who can roam may be more the ones who have not accepted that they died...basically there may be something significant to them in that area, they died there or maybe something major happened in that area while they were alive...

The house that I grew up in wasn't what I would call haunted, but we did have a spirit there. I'm pretty sure that it was a child. Something of mine or my sisters would come up missing and then we would accuse each other of taking whatever the item was and we fought a lot. Then one day when we were fighting because an item of my sisters came up missing, she just stopped, got real quiet, closed her bedroom door, and said "Put it back!" She opened the door and the item was laying on her bed. We stopped fighting after that and nothing ever came up missing again.

We've lived with our ghosts ever since we bought the house 26 years ago. The ghost we see as plain as a real person seems sad....our "shades" just seem to wander thru the house, the dogs watch them...I kind of think our house may be a portal of some sort...Our dog Bitty used to bark at them, but she's gotten used to them, now she just stares and walks away...

Now, if it was the man himself or some other thing just attracted to the place because of him, I don't know...

a 'shadow person' was the reason I first joined mw, to see if anyone else knew what I was blabbering about. (I chickened out in the end) since I was seventeen, I have seen a shadow which appears to be a man in a long coat and a trilby hat. to say that it terrified me, was an understatement, and 'he' would be there almost my every waking hour. at first I put it down to a halloucination (I was suffering from depression at the time). until my best friend saw it one night. my mum has also said when I lived with her she often saw a 'shadow of a man in a hat and a coat', and when I was 21, a flatmate of mine (a fully grown man!) started literally screaming saying a cloaked shadow in a hat had glided into the room next to me (I had never breathed a word of it to him). I still see him now- and he always turns up when I'm distressed. I still dont know what the hell it is, but I'm not afraid of him anymore, but I havent seen him forr months and months.

tigereye; this is the first account I've heard of a shadow person trying to 'attatch' itself to someone, apart from myself (not the shadow I've just described. something different, will take too long to explain). I also had to literally shake it off, and it was truly the most horrifying thing I have ever experienced

I was involved in a house cleansing a month or so ago and we all went in fully shielded. I never saw a shadow but I certainly felt one try to attach to my back. But then I tend to feel things more than see them. I actually had one attach to me several years back, it felt like I was getting the worst case of the flu, chills and fatigue, it was horrible. I had to get the rest of my crew to help banish the sucker because it was so strong that it drained me too quickly to do anything for myself.

Well, once, when I was about 5, I went to sleep in my brother's bed because he was sleeping over at a friend's, and I woke up in the middle of the night and there was this little boy sitting at the foot of the bed. The full moon was streaming in the window, and he looked transparent and glowy, but clearly defined--like he was made out of moonlight. I tried to wake my little brother who was asleep across the room, but eventually, I just covered my head in the blankets and went back to sleep.

In that same bed, my older brother has seen a shadowy figure, but I don't have the details.

Anyway, that's all that's happened. If we have spirits, they're quiet and benevolent. Our house practically glows with love and good energy. Now outside, that's different. The neighborhood is known for having strange activities: ghost legends, if you will. People that live in a certain area nearby go crazy: like suicidal, homocidal, paranoid-delusional crazy. And my friend up the hill, her house is most definitely haunted. They have to exorcise it regularly, because some freaky-deaky things like to take residence there. And, odd as it is, the ruined church next door isn't really a problem at all. It's just a cool place to play when you're little.

We lived in an old house when I was 7 that was riddled with them. There was some very strange and frightening things that happened there. There was even a shadow that came up out of the tub drain and tripped my little sister some how and she nearly bit her own tongue off from it. But, in the last several houses that I have lived in, there has always been something there. In the first there was just noises that shouldn't be there. So, that didn't bother me too much. In the next, there was a shadow of a man that would constantly watch me. It really gave me the creeps. And, he would always show up when I least expected it. Now, in this one, it is the spirits of children. I wouldn't say that it is really haunted, but they are here. Late at night, I can hear children playing when mine are all asleep. Not to mention that the toys are always going off and that they are always being placed in another place. But, this is just my experiences.

The first two houses that I lived in when I was a kid had ghosts living in them. Unfortunately, I don't think that this one does, for the most part.

The first ghost I saw was a little boy surrounded by blue light, watching my mom sleep in her room. I was in the hallway and had just had a bad dream, and had my pillow with me when I saw him. I immediately turned back around and went back to bed. o.O;

The other ghosts are the ones I talk about most, because I knew them best and had the most fun with them. Before I moved to NH, I used to live in Weiser, Idaho, in a building which used to be part of the Intermountain Institute, called the Carnegie Library. There were quite a few ghosts that stayed there.

There was an old man who wandered by the windows and knocked on the door, there were a few kids who played in the hall and outside, there was an old woman living in the attic, an angry male ghost upstairs who didn't like the door to the upstairs to be locked and who always tried to scare me or push me down when I was upstairs (he's also the same ghost who would push my friend when she was walking up the short stairs to the bathroom  ), and then there was the ghost that I liked best. He liked to hang out in my room, but his domain was also part of the living room, the bathroom, the stairs, and the main floor (which was unused). My parents' bedroom also seemed to be some sort of madhouse of ghosties living in it. At one point, when my sensitivity to ghosts was strong enough, I ended up not being able to sleep in their room at all. I would always feel like I was being lifted and dropped back into the bed while sleeping, and I'd hear things constantly, even if no one was home. :( I have some neat stories about the friendly ghost, though.

i think i live in one now. i have never seen this 'ghost' but i have a feeling it is an older woman (the lady who owned the house before my family did, had a sister who lived and died in my house, she slept in my room). at first i was so scared to see her, but now it doesn't bother me so much, i would love to meet her! The usual stuff happens, i got stressed out one day trying to find my english sheets, i was stressing so bad, then i said really loud 'where the f*ck are my english sheets?'...these sheets fell of this shelf on the other side of the room (no windows or doors open),they were my english sheets. i will feel all my back go cold then i am sat down looking at something . eg, looking at the video in the rack, i got an icy cold back, within 2-3 seconds and it's not the house, my mum has the heating crammed up so high, it's like barbados in my house! i was sat watching the tv, lying on my bed on my back, knees bent. there was a gap at the bottom of my bed, my legs went icy cold. i bobbed myself. other strange things happen, things go missing, things break, electrical things go weird and the hot water go mad, i will be sat down, at the computer or something, i will feel someone touch my shoulders or squeeze my hand, but if i say 'please can you stop' or 'ouch, you are hurting me' it goes away instantly.!. so annoying, but it is not 'evil', because it would have tried to hurt me, i feel as though it is guarding me, looking after me in some way. it is comforting. it might not even be a ghost, what do you think?
P.s i have also found orb like things in a photo. whooooooo, lol

I had a real redneck upbringing, I grew up in a small town in Northern California, and when I was a kid, starting at age 13, I'd go camping, hunting and fishing alone. In the summer, I'd be in the mountains above Shasta Lake for 2 weeks at a time, by myself, so I'm not afraid of the dark, or unexplained noises. My house scares the shit out of me. Something bad is in my basement. I have to run up the stairs at times, dropping my laundry or whatever I'm doing. I don't like it.

I don't know. I was so young at the time. I lived in a house built on a site that had burned down twice. I used to have nightmares about fire all the time, even though I was never bothered by it in the waking hours. I used to have many nightmares in that house and one time thought I saw a phantom. I've pretty much chalked it up as childhood nonsense, but who knows.

:ghostie: My house is haunted. It was built in 1914, and the old lady that lived there before us still resides with us. She is very welcoming and is fine with us living there....except when the kitchen is unclean or in disarray. She gets very irritated when someone messes with her kitchen.

We had a party one Hallows, and we left the kitchen messy. That night, in the middle of the night, you could hear water running and dishes clinking in the sink. And then what sounded like a cookie sheet being thrown across the kitchen.

Then there was this time that a friend of mine was making a fruit salad in the kitchen, and she had painstakingly cut up a whole bunch of fruit and put it in a bowl. She then left the kitchen for a moment, and while my back was turned, the bowl of fruit flung itself off the counter and all over the floor. My mother actually saw the bowl fling itself off the counter, and was very bothered by the incident.

Another strange thing is that just about every day at the same time, it sounds like someone walks in through our back door...the bells on the door jingle and everything. But when you go to see who's come in, no one is there.

There are also many unexplained bumps and thumps to be heard...

I personally think its fascinating to live in a haunted house. I only get a little scared once in awhile when I'm alone....but I think that is only because I let myself get scared...

Most of the places I have lived have had resident spirits, and I have a couple who now follow me from place to place... Currently my bed is haunted, and my house has an old lady ghost who seems to like me.
