Today my phiance and I went hiking here in Vermont. We went for a hike up to the Glastenbury Fire Tower. On our way up we found fresh tracks from a bear, a moose and it's calf, a mountain lion and it's cub and a coyote. We also briefly heard the coyote in the distance. It was a beautiful sunny day with a nice breeze, the perfect weather for a hike.

"gotta love the mountains of Vermont."

ay-yep!

"a mountain lion and it's cub"

o.k., this one's a bit serious, were those bobcat tracks or "catamount" (mountain lion)? the catamount was supposed to be extinct in vermont since the late 1890s but recently several people have reported seeing large cat tracks in several locations and i've seen a newspaper story locally with a photo of a good sized track, too big for a bobcat. the fish and game dept. is not yet ready to say what they are but they're taking reports. (it took them 10 years to accept the existence of the "eastern coyote") if in fact we do again have catamount in vermont we need to give them some protection since even if they have returned they will never be common.

welcome "honeydreads", i was going to invite you here from the vermont pagans club but i see you found your way here on your own.

wiccan meave/honeydreads is a neighbor of mine though we haven't met yet, give her a good welcome gang. i've read her bio in the "vermont pagans" yahoo club and she sounds like an interesting lady to know.

Hi Gunner and Fawn, it's nice to see you two. Well Gunner considering the size of the paw prints and the location I'd say it was a Catamount. You see a few years back my fiance was in the location where we took this most recent hike and actually got a picture of a Catamount, one of the first proving they still existed.
