View Full Version : I need some help with a spell for protection/personal safety, please

I have been hearing some rumors (all heresay so far, but from someone I do trust) that there have been 2 girls murdered in a town near to me. I heard that it looks to be a serial killer. Yes, there is a part of me saying that this is just rumors, but there is also the paranoid part that is more than slightly freaked.8O

I would like to do a personal protection spell for me, my kids and my husband. The problem is that I am following a kitchen/green sort of path and I don't do much in the way of ceremonial rituals and spells. And the other thing is that I am pretty new to this and haven't done much magick as I was waiting until I knew a lot more than I do. :) I have mostly done candle spells to date.

What could be a simple spell for protection? Or is there a particular God/dess that I could call upon for aid? I obviously want to write the spell myself, but I am not 100% sure of what I need to include.

Ok, thanks, I think I am going to go sit with my dog now- she is good protection for me too :)

Freaky. :(

Well, I can think of a few simple things to do, like talismans.

Something as simple as writing a rune of protection or a small rune spell on a piece of paper and putting one in everyone's pockets could help. :) I could give you one, but it might not have much meaning since my rune set seems to only be used by myself. I bet Rick could help you though, if you wanted to persue that option.

Another similar option, which might hold more meaning for you being on a kitchen/green path, is to put together a small pouch (medicine bag?) of herbs with protective qualities for everyone to keep on their personhood. I don't have my herb guides with me at the moment, so I'm not entirely sure which would have protective qualities, but you probably know, or else someone else can help. :)

A third and still similar option would be for everyone to carry around a protective crystal. :)

There are, of course, other things that can be done. I just prefer protections spells that have physical sources (talismans) myself so that I know as long as it's on my person, it's at least doing something. (As opposed to energy spells/shields/rituals which tend to need constant upkeep over extended periods of time that we sometimes forget to keep at.)

Another idea is to use wards on your doors and windows to keep that nasty energy out of your home. This usually means putting sigils, symbols, or words on your doors and windows that themselves will be charged with energy to prevent a certain energy or person from entering. I also keep a protective circle around my apartment at all times (which has to be recharged intermittently) and have asked a dragon to protect it. (not because of criminals as much to keep my bf's ex away)

Here's one you can use or change to suit what you need. I'll give it to you the way I use it & you can change whatever you like...

You need:

A piece of elder wood (protects from physical & psychic attacks). Before cutting any part of an elder tree, tell it your intentions & why you need the wood & ask for it's blessings. Make an offering to the tree first. The tree will let you know if it is alright.

Heather - protection against violent attacks & will also bring good luck.

Juniper sprig - protect against evil people & attacks & accidents.

Wood betony - protects you spiritually as well as physically.

Add a small carving of a dog, carved out of turquoise if you can find one. If not, use a wooden dog bead & just add a small piece of turquoise. You can usually find them at bead stores or craft stores.

A brown cotton bag with green cord. Brown for the earth element - protection, safety of the Mother's womb. Green for herb magic, the green element of the craft.

You will need to work out your own wording to ask for the blessings & protection of each element. Think of the situation & the people these bundles are meant for. You can also add in a token to represent each person to further personalize them. I like to smudge everything with sandlewood incense before starting. Somewhere in your ritual, carve or print on the elder wood the protection rune, Algiz. As you complete each bag, tie the cord in a triple knot.

Oh, I forgot...make sure you have some herbs left over for the offering. I like to bury the offering in my garden.

I am just learning about some of these but all the stuff I have on protection say the ones to use are either put in a gri-gri(mojo type ) bag or burned.

They are: Angelica leaf, sweet basil, bishopwort (betony wood),
cactus blossoms, carnation, clover (red blossoms) (yellow blossoms are to repel evil) lemon verbena, mistletoe,(also says if hung over your bed weakens enemies) Mullberry leaves this one also gives you strength, rosemary,
sandalwood, black sea salt, st.johns wort, tomato roots
yucca root and yucca seeds

Most smell really great when burned also

I have been learning much about burning white sage and has really helped in the past month to clear away negative energies and allow me the freedom to control my path!!

Learning all I can and getting deeper into herbal practices has become a very strong passion for me.

Not sure if any of these are available to you but when you shop consentrate on why and you can feel it by holding onto the herbs if it is for you!!

Sure hope this is useful

Thanks everyone. I still haven't heard anything in the news or any more rumors. I find it hard to believe that two people could be murdered in one week and no one has heard or said a thing about it. I know I wouldn't be able to keep quiet about it!:shaker: I'd be too scared!

However, :D, I am going out today and will be picking up some stones and herbs. A little mojo bag can't hurt, right?

are two of the most potent protectors,
and an all over smudging with sage is always helpful , especially if you can do it with a feather . Hematite is a great protector , carry a small stone with you .

Good idea! A few years ago, I was in ...like 4 car accidents, none my fault either. I started carrying Tiger's Eye with me and haven't had one since. I picked up some rosemary, valerian, white sage and mugwort. and some black onyx to put in the bags.

Thanks again and BB

Comfrey root is a good herb to ward off accidents while traveling. I think feverfew is another one but I'll have to check my notes when I get home.

There's also Mandrake, St John's Wort, Sandalwood, and my favourite - Dragon's Blood. It smells like strong licorice ;)
