I'm looking for in depth information regarding the Eleusian Mysteries. Could anyone please point me in the direction of good websites. But, I'm actually more interested in some book recomendations, if anyone has any. :reading:

Pausanius' Guide to Greece (http://www.oxbowbooks.com/bookinfo.cfm/ID/11702) contains an account of the Sacred Way - the 30 km path pilgrims would take from Athens to Eleusis. I think it's in volume 1, but I'm not sure. Either way, it is worth getting both I think.

i just recently finished reading "The Eleusinian Mysteries' by Dudley Wright (no, not Dudley Doright! ). i found it a bit annoying at first, as he constantly interchanges the Gods Roman and Greek names. my feeling was "how scholarly can this be if he can't even separate the two?".
but in fact i found it very good in the end. unfortunately i have lost it since, so i can't give you the ISBN. but it was a small book with horrible graphics, and it cost $14.95!
still, if money isn't a deep concern, i think i would recommend this book in the end. good material on the Eleusinian priesthood and as complete a description of the actual mysteries as i have ever read.

Here are a few other books that should prove helpful in researching the Eleusinian Mysteries:

"Greek Religion" by Walter Burkert.

"The Ancient Mysteries" edited by Marvin W. Meyer.

"Prolegomena to the Study of Greek Religion" by Jane Ellen Harrison.

There are also some interesting reprints of older books at http://www.kessinger-publishing.com/ if you do a keyword search there on "Eleusis."

For some interesting Hellenic pagan material (although I'm not sure if there's much specifically on Eleusis) check out http://www.cs.utk.edu/~mclennan/BA/

There is also some public-domain stuff like Harold Willoughby's "Pagan Regeneration" (http://www.sacred-texts.com/cla/pr/index.htm) (which includes some stuff on the Eleusinian Mysteries) at http://www.sacred-texts.com/ - you might need to use their search tool to find the specific pages.

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Aegean/3193/ looks like it could have some interesting material too.
