Seance tips?

This Samhain, I plan to do a seance, whether it works or not. I think it would be pretty interesting. does anybody have any advice?

I think most people have this idea atleast one time during their practices of the craft , but I must warn you that unless your reasons for doing this are respectable you are liable to p*** someone one off , in other words dont do it if you just think it might be cool . Just because the vail between the worlds are more thin during samhain doesnt mean you have to use them . Just be wise is all I'm saying .

yeah, it probably won't happen... i think my friends and i are just a bit too goofy for that, especially after whatever will happen at our party. It would still be fun to try though, there are more reasons than just it being cool, but they are hard to put into words...

I heard once that you should wear silver, if you are holding hands, don't let go until the seance is officially closed, and be VERY respectful. I really wouldn't suggest doing a seance though. I had a pretty bad experience once and really don't recommend it.

I am confused though. I believe in ghosts, but from what I understand they are souls for whatever reason who won't move on..maybe they're waiting for loved ones to pass, or they don't realize they're dead, or died before their time -whatever.The site I went to said to decide before the seance who you want to call over..I would hope that my mother and other relatives and pets are in the summerland waiting to be reincarnated, or have already been reincarnated..I guess my thought is that you cant really be specific can you? I would think that most would be on the other side or leading new lives.do you really think that we have control over the spirit world? I don't think we do..I think a spirit will only come if it wants to. I'm pretty new at this, but I would do a lot of research and try to talk to people who have done it. I am also interested in trying a seance, but I'm not about to go jumping into it..it sounds like you are going to do the same.

I've been thinking about it and I don't think I should just post it here for any person who comes along to read. It was a really messed up thing that happened and although it didn't kill me, I now know that jumping into something like a seance without any knowledge to back it up could possibly be deadly. And I really don't want anyone else to go out and try it! :hairraise PM me if you still want to know.

Jinx, that is okay. You don't have to disclose what you don't feel comfortable with. You just had my curiosity going. I have never sat in on a successful seance, but I was thinking of holding one of my own privately during Samhain and trying. Perhaps not. Advice headed. I will read more into this before attempting to practice anything. Well shoot, that is just good advice period. ;).

This is a slight digression, but...

one time a friend and I were messing around with an ouija board and things got weird. There were all kinds of noises in the house (which was empty except for the two of us) and things started moving...you wouldn't see them actually move, but if you turned away for a second they would be gone, and they'd be found a bit later in really weird places. For example, a glass moved to the other side of the room when we left the room for a few minutes. It had been on the coffee table, and it moved to the fireplace, which as I said was the other end of the room. Speaking of Ouija, I have had an experience while using one.

When I was a teen, a friend and I had been playing with it regularly. A practicing Pagan who was a friend had told me we had got something nasty about, and advised we "close" the board with black pepper. We did the ritual as she suggested and drew the banishing pentacle on the board with pepper. About 20 minutes later, while eating ice cream, I began to gag and choke and cough. So did my friend. We both began spitting up wads of black pepper.

Needless to say, the boards scare me now. I don't have one anymore.

Off topic a bit, now since roaming the Paranormal board, I think I realize I connect to this very well and have really had a lot of experiences. :tongueout: This board will become an addiction for me, I think.

ETA: These threads are reminding me of things I have experineced when I was younger but have forgotten or just not thought about in a long time. Way cool.

To reiterate a response of mine from a very similar thread-

FIRST....STOP!!!!!
Dealing with the dead is a risky business. Do not enter foolishly or ignorantly.

#1- do NOT summon someone who hasn't been dead long enough to KNOW they are dead, and has not had time to make the change and accept it. (we had that problem here before lol)

#2- Think about it. If you decide you can and still want to...Think again....do this a butt-load of times.

#3- know EXACTLY what you are doing. What you are putting on the line, what you are dealing with, what you hope to gain, what you want to ask/talk about SPECIFICALLY..make sure you word anything you wish to say meticulously, as not to be misinterpretted (that can go badly).

#4- KNOW HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF. Firstly, do not call on anyone you didn't know very well PERSONALLY in life. This is your first try, you dont' just thrust yourself in, you will regret it. Know how to use psychic blocks, a protective talisman, a protection spell or chant, state you will not allow negative energies access to you..only the positive, and only the ones you wish to let in, use protective crystals, etc etc. Do NOT let any entity you do NOT know access you AT ALL. Am I freaking you out yet? Good. This is not a light matter, nor is it just for fun. It is to be taken heavily, carefully, seriously...and to be dealt with with the utmost respect.

#5- Never lose concentration, focus, or take your attention away from your intent..even for a millisecond, it only takes that long for things to go wrong.

#6- LISTEN. And I don't mean with your ears, I mean in your mind, with your energy, your subconcious....you have to get into the meditative state of mind pretty much.

#7- pay attention to everything, sensations, feelings, the slightest change in temperature and atmosphere, don't dwell on it..but notice it, and process it. If at any time you feel negative vibes for any reason..it's time to up your protection..or end it.

#8- When you're done...dont' just stand up and leave...you have to close what you've opened. Know how to end it correctly. Write up a little closing spell, and use it after you state aloud that the time for it is now over. Know how to put a block up, shut down the energies and pull yourself out of it properly...make sure you bring nothing with you.

The easiest time is Samhain, but remember, that is also when it's easiest for them as well....all of them.
Make sure you use the name of who you summon, and make it known they are the ONLY one you summon, welcome, and will allow.
If any negative energies gain access...do not buckle or give in to them. Do not get scared..get strong and utilize your will to push them and block them out, on no uncertain terms.

I'm not trying to push you away from this, or to terrify you in any way...but with all good comes bad..and you must know how to do something like this the proper way. It is no game, and you must have the utmost respect for it and all of it's facets and possibilities.

I have read that you are supposed to be very polite while asking questions, and make sure you tell them thank you and to go home, or they will stay. Also, make sure to remember that they can lie, for instance, be on your guard if a child comes through needing help or something, because it might not be an innocent child at all. Does that make sense? LOL

This is another thing that you should not play with at all. Here is why:

"Ghosts" are what most people call earth-bound spirits. But, in a seance, these are not the only spirits that can come through. Any spirit on the Astral Plane can also come through.
Many of these spirits are not of the highest and best.

Remember, the souls of people like Hitler, Ted Bundy, and Jack the Ripper could still be on the other side and would love to come over here. It would not be a pleasant experience.

You have more to fear from the living than you do from the dead. But it still would not be fun. Especially for newbies. You really should have someone with you who is experienced. And, it should be someone you know well.

I have attended several in my time. It was great entertainment and my friends and I enjoyed laughing about it afterwords. It was not real at all.

Be careful, be very careful. Remember, nasty spirits feed on your fear and it gives them power.
