Really, any organized religion can be seen as cultish. You can't really call Catholics a cult because of a few of their members. Most of the Catholics I know are great people. There are a few bad apples, but you'll find that in any group.

I question the power of the Pope. The pope may have been powerful in the past, but today fewer Catholics follow him blindly. I know plenty who use birth control.
