Well, I had a sudden urge to go and buy a tarot deck yesterday, so I did. My local bookshop does not have a great collection of decks. But I had to buy one for the sake of my sanity. So I ended up buying the Hanson Roberts deck.. This little deck was gathering dust in one corner and I picked it up.

The pictures are so cute and goody goody that even the 10 of swords looks like a happy card!! :tongueout The pictures look like they are out of childrens' story books and this reminds me of my own childhood (I am a grown woman now, but still a child, heart and soul)

The things that I like about this deck are the manageable size (good for shuffling), no nudies here (good for public readings) and the happy tone overall. I am going to use this deck as my 'rough use' deck, i.e. whenever I have to do readings on demand.. i.e. when I go out to meet friends etc. and they request readings... You get the idea.

The one disadvantage I find is that this deck is based on RWS and every time I look at one of its cards, the corresponding RWS picture comes to my mind and my interpretation of the card automatically becomes the interpretation of the RWS card.. Phew!! I think I over stretched the sentence. :ugh: But I hope I will slowly develop my own meanings for each of these cutie pie cards and those will be unique to this deck...

Here is the link showing pictures from this deck.

This is not a very sophisiticated deck, if that's what you are looking for, just a goody goody beginner style, fairy tale like, medieval toned deck..

moonshine,

This deck is one of the most beautiful RWS clone decks. Hanson Roberts was my second and I never regreted to bought it, I inmediately got a strong connection with it and still one of my favorites. you really did a great buy! :) Enjoy it! _cloud9_

Thanks MAR. I have read reviews that accuse this deck of being too sweet, but I liked the pictures the instant I saw them! I am yet to discover any deep symbolism in the pictures (it was painted in 8 months, as opposed to 5-6 years that a sophisticated deck takes!) but I feel this deck is good for light, fun readings and it seems to give good news all the time! :)

Maybe it is cute but the artwork is good and most importantly YOU like it! I never considered the need for a no nudes deck. <slaps forhead> good idea

That was my first deck...and yeah it is pretty much a clone of the rider waite deck....but it's an awesome begginner deck and the art, I think, is much better the the Riderwaite

I got that deck not to long ago from here, well not here in this forum but the Public market place here on MW :D I do like it and you know what the thought of no nudes in this deck did not occur to me until I read your post.:kooky:

This is the only deck I have the I "click" with. It always gives me good readings. They are the traditional Rider Waite style, but I love the pictures so much more. Temperance has to be the most beautiful card ever, in my opinion. I am a softie Pisces type!!!

I agree with star52star52. Hanson Roberts deck was my first deck (I now have three) and its the one I feel the most connected to.

i love this deck. it's so goody goody that sometimes it's like, 'no don't look at them because i KNOW you'll think it's corny, I'll just do the reading and um, get back to ya on this!' lol. you know?
but it clicks really well.

This was my third deck and I didn't feel a connection through the tarot until I got this deck. I gave the others away and I've been using this one ever since, about 8 years. I've had some bad news come through this deck. One reading I did told about two deaths that would occur to family members of the person being read. Sure enough, two elderly relatives died within the next two weeks. That wasn't entirely unexpected news, and not entirely bad considering the ages of the relatives who died. Why does a deck or a reading have to have dark overtones to be valid?

I have over 20 decks and I find I use this one the most for public readings. the style of the artwork puts most people at ease. the cards are very easy to explain to the person i am reading for (if they ask for an explanation). I have also recommended it for a lot of newbies.

Speaking of "nudie" decks.. the Tarot Erotica (not the Erotic tarot) is one that i wouldn't want to do public readings for strangers!

A general reading would be great, RhiamonButterfly! Don't be scared to deliver any bad news! My life is a mess at this time.. Yeah, I was wondering about halfwaynowhere too.. Maybe she got busy with her school work or something..

Hi RhiamonButterfly,

I am currently in India. I came back from the U.S. (San Diego) last year. I am an Indian, a Hindu, but drawn to new age theories. I did my studies in the U.S. and stayed there for quite a few years.. I studies my M.S. Computer Engineering there, but due to the unfortunate Software bust, students like me were left with no choice but to come back.. Anyways, that is another misery of my life.. I am trying not to get carried away.. Now I am a Software Engineer with a multinational company in India.

I am hoping I will come over there some time in the future.. One big disadvantage of being in India is that there are not many people who know about/practise Yoga (yeah, surprised?)/ Tarot etc. so not many people to talk to.. :( But I have found MW and this is my second home these days!

Also, because of this time zone difference I am only able to find you guys online early mornings and late at nights of mine. Our time difference with people in UK is less, so I find a lot of UK people online after my mid day...

I so desperately want to be online when everyone else is.. but anyways, many things have to change for that.. Let me not go into all the tragedies of my life.. :(

It is Monday, 9:35 am here..

awww...the time zone thingy does stink.....but I'm a nightowl anyways, especially when hubby is home on the weekends to get up with our baby...hehe....so are things alot like the US over there? If it makes you feel better, I have no one to talk to about my interests either, I'm the only one like me in the world it seems...well, until I came to MW..lol

These days I am thinking that I should do my tarot work late at night.. Also, I am trying to set up an altar these days and looking out for stuff for that... I have realised that there are many rituals which established religions despise, but they are actually promoted in Hinduism.. So I am studying that.. Hopefully I will be able to come up with an analysis on that.. Also I am ordering a couple of tarot decks over Amazon.com. Only if the postmen can find their way all the way to my street to deliver those decks.. I am going to need some spells for safe and assured delivery of my tarot decks to my house..

I have been surfing, surfing and surfing to find 'the' deck... Phew! It is like an addiction, true!! Sometimes I feel that the whole thing about getting almost 'magically' drawn to tarot, buying my first RWS and then buying more decks has never been under my control at all.. It is like somebody else is guiding me.. That's the excuse I would like to use to continue buying decks! ;)

I have figured that I am able to read well with decks that show human faces with emotions.. Also, cards that are regular size, not huge ones.. About the size of regular RWS or smaller.. Hanson Roberts that way is good for me.. :) Since I am also beginning some of the ritual work, I may get one of the related decks...

well, out of the decks I have, the Hanson-Roberts was the smallest, and the Zerner-Farber, but the Gilded is pretty small, the Universal-Waite, hmmm...can't think....but if you don't like big decks, the Mythic is pretty big and so is the Goddess Tarot, although they came out with a pocket Goddess deck that would be perfect ;)
