I live in an apartment and would love to get some ideas on what I could grow since I have no access to outdoor plots.
The herbs I grow would be facing due East and I live in the Cleveland Ohio area where it stays cold til May.
But my apt is VERY hot. And I have a cat.
Any suggestions?

It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
Do you plan to grow herbs for ritual or casting? Do you want something to use for cooking?
There are MANY herbs you can grow successfully indoors in nearly any climate...
Without knowing more, sage is a very tolerant herb and does very well in warm conditions.
Your apartment can be set up as a mini greenhouse if you want to take some time to do it. Let me know what you are specifiacally interested in, and I am sure to have more info.

Merry meet, I just joined and didnt see a place to introduce myself. Im a Wiccan lady, grandmother of 3 girls, living in the woods in Tennessee. Anyway, medicinal herbs are one of my interests. This winter I grew rosemary, basil, catnip, sage. under 4 40watt wide spectrum floresent lights on some metal utility shelves in my bathroom. I'm about to start the tomatoes, peppers and cabbage as well as camomile and St Johnswort. The lights and shelves are inexpensive, and my bathroom stays warm. I hope this helps give you ideas for an indoor garden.

My main intent is growing herbs for ritual use. I am trying very hard to create all my own tools. Example: I am going to be starting to make my own candles at equinox. If I can grow many of my own herbs as well, then this will be even better.
Last but not least, I have NO plants in my apt as yet. And I would like to start by raising herbs.
Thanks Eaglewolf

Can I suggest you start with a Rosemary plant? Rosemary is a good all purpose herb for magic, healing, and cooking. It grows well on a window sill, doesn't care if you forget to water and is not fussy about fertilizer. It does like sun, the more the better, so put it in a South or SW window if you can.

Ok, I am soaking all this up, but now I need to know where do you go about getting these herbs for planting. A nursery or something as simple as the local wal-mart???? Also what kind of soil ..aaaggghhh...help. I know nothing. The only plant I can grow is an ivy.
