Well alot of people tend to argue on what exactly it is some think its an out of body experience while others believe it is just a type of meditation . I know for a fact that you can travel and have an effect on the real world while your body remains motionless . One of the first exercises I ever did with astral travel was were you tell some one to go into another room and stay there , you do whatever technique you have then once you have left your body "float" to where the person is and touch them . When your done ask the person if they felt you .
This of course is just an example of the things you can do , before doing this you should already be able to see and touch things while astral projecting , wich are different exercises on their own . I picked this up very soon but not all people have the same results , I used to astral project while sleeping as a kid but did not know what was going on until I got into the occult .

As for your other question on how to do it I suggest you search the internet for different techniques , what works for one person might not for the next . Well I hope this helps in some way or another.

Konstantinos' book Gothic Grimoire has got some good astral projection techniques in it if you can't find anything on the internet.

I bought the book. To fly without a broomstick. Very good

Very interesting topic. I no longer fly. Too much of a hassel. I usually take a train.

Great book that I learned most of what I know about Astral Projection from it.
Robert Bruce's Astral Dynamics. Highly recommended.

A few years ago i spent ages trying to project but failed miserably. After that i didn't bother trying anymore; until about 12 months ago, while i was meditating i felt a really strange feeling as though i was floating away. My head went all weird, kind of like when you're on a plane and next thing i knew, i was astrally projecting. (Excellent description eh? I should be an Author i know!)

It was different to all the other times i've tried; they just felt like meditations. This time i actually felt like i was walking around the house. I could even feel the weight of my feet as i walked.

Anyway, the method i use is to relax, then relax some more, then some more. Then i try to 'swim' out of the top of my head. Sounds ridiculous i know. (Remember i've told you all in confidence. Don't spread the word or i'll be the laughing stock of the astral plane!) :crylaugh:

In all seriousness though, i've read somewhere that the top of your head is the best place to leave your body. Unfortunately though, i find that the more i concentrate and try to leave my body, the harder it becomes!

Hope my babbling is of some value. If not, try The Online Astral Projection Guide Book. (http://www.jonasridgeway.com/) I've had a quick look at the techniques but not tried any myself

Good luck.
