View Full Version : New England MW Meetup?
Cinnamon Girl

Hello fellow New Englanders!
I know there have been a couple MW get-togethers in other areas lately, and am wondering if anyone would be interested in having a New Engand meetup?
I don't know if this is enough notice, but I was thinking about the 23rd or 24th of this month in Salem - that's a pretty central location and hey, it's Salem! I'll be in WV during Samhain itself, so I didn't want to set anything up for that weekend. Of course, maybe this month is too soon anyway ...
So, what do you all think? _whistle_

If you are going to Salem that weekend, leave EARLY..it'll be packed in tight..consider taking the train in,even. (Although parking might be available in the train station parking lot....)

I was actually going to go to Salem this coming 16, but my mom is telling me to change the date 'cause my brother has some sort of sleepover or something.
Maybe I should go on the 23 'cause the 24th is my birthday :bigblue:
I went last year on the 18th. Yes, it was very crazy. I liked how there were actors dressed in colonial (not renaissance) clothing. Unless they weren't actors at all, then I'd feel really stupid. :ack:

I'm sure it is going to be crazy that weekend. I've gone on Halloween before....SO MANY PEOPLE, hard to find parking, let alone not wait 1 1/2 hours on the highway to get to the exit. Well worth it though.
Just found out this weekend that there is a motorcycle run coming from Everett to Salem on the 24th. And it leaves at 7pm. Wonder what kind of mayhem all these bikes are going to cause with the police escorts and all the traffic.
Good suggestions Jer. We'd have to bring the kids though. Billy will be up on the bike. Think its a good idea!

Hmmm ... well, maybe we should postpone it? Or move the location somewhere else?
Thoughts?

Oh yes.. Salem at Samhain is PACKED! I went for a few years when I was younger, but got tired of fighting the crowds, traffic, etc.. I don't go anywhere near Salem in mid-to-late October, because it's madness.. Hahahaha Normally, I get there twice a month, every month. BUT, October is always skipped.
I'd definitely be interested in a meetup though, I think it would be awesome! Maybe it's best to at least move the location if you're thinking of doing it this month?

Yeah. Salem on the 23rd or 24th will be mad-crazy. We can always postpone it or move it, not like NE is a mega-widespread area! :)

Well only time that I myself will be able to make it with my crazy schedule with work and classes with be Samhain. I will be in Salem pretty much all day 3pm on till late or when I am too tired hehe. I posted about Salem's Haunted Happenings (http://www.mysticwicks.org/showthread.php?t=69070) awhile ago. Maybe if people can make it we can meet in front of Nu Aeon (88 Wharf St, Pickering Wharf) As that is where people are meeting for the walk up to Gallows Hill (http://www.tnw-salem.org/TNWcal.html). I think it would be awesome if we could all meet up. I myself have gone to Salem for Samhain just about every year for the past 6 years maybe hehe...too easy to lose track of time.
As people have said it's crazy mad nuts down there but in my opinion it's well worth it to me especially my first trip down and my first walk to Gallows Hill!
Brightest Blessing & Happy Samhain All :durrrr:

I wanna do one in CT now, b/c I don't always get the chance to go to Mass...

Why don't we plan something *well* in advance so that everyone can make sure to come? It'd be wonderful to meet in Salem (although I think it'd definitely be too crazy next weekend). Of course, I'll probably have to take the train from Worcester to Boston, and then take the Salem train from North Station, which could be a bit of a pain.
I'm from central Mass. and I can't think of anywhere... except Worcester, and that's not a particularly fun place to be. Well, Mt. Wachusett or something could be nice but it's getting too late in the year.

I agre something later in the year, so if people need to they can find rides, or some mode of transportation...cause I know my mom won't take me and I don't think I'm getting my license til the very end of this year or the very beginning of next year. Not to mention that the day after Halloween the busiest time of year is upon us...eveything is hectic...maybe I should make a poll to find out where the most people live...like, if more people live in Mass...meet in Mass....RI, then RI....ect. I think I'll do that right now :woot:
*edit...sorry I don't know how to make a poll! can someone else do it????!

I agree that we should move it far enough ahead so that everyone who wants to go will be able to plan it into their schedules.
And a place inside would be nice now that we're getting into the chillier weather :bundled: - that Tiki place sounds like fun, and Wright's Farm is also good. I added a poll to this thread so that everyone who's interested in attending can choose where they are located, so maybe we can narrow it down that way or at least pick a place that's convenient to the majority ...
SacredWithin
October 19th, 2004, 08:29 AM

I'm sure wherever you are not used to driving you're not going to like it. :)
Have you ever driven there??... let me rephrase that... Have you ever driven around a RI driver? They tailgate, don't use directionals, and only know the meaning of breaks when they are crawling up your tailpipe.
Every RI driver that I've complained to tells me that Mass drivers drive them crazy... so I think its a subconcious rivalry that we've got going.
Sylvan
October 19th, 2004, 09:00 AM
Not to mention what they do when they're in a smaller town, trying to pull out of a business and go left. They'll pull out in front of oncoming traffic to stop it so they can take that left... :bangyourh
I'm a transplant. I probably have more CT-driver habits...

I live in Massachusetts (about a half hour south of Worcester), but a lot of places in CT or RI are just as easy, if not easier to get to than places in MA. Still, if we were going to meet in Bangor or St. Johnsbury or something, and I knew far enough in advance, I could do it. So don't worry about me. :)

I have to work weekends too but If I have plenty of time ahead I might be able to pull something off but not between Thanksgiving and Christmas like I stated above.

Most definately! Maybe we can gather during a Sabbat that way we can have something to do (and bring friends and all)! :) I don't see the harm in it...unless some of us aren't open to celebrating Pagan holidays... not all of us are Pagan you know. But hey, I think a Sabbat would be cool. If not, we can always do something else. :)

i live in a dead end neighborhood so theres plenty of room for parking, and im 5 seconds from the train station

A sunday sounds okay. Preferably in the afternoon.
How about 11/22--a week from today? Or is that too close being thanksgiving week and all?
December is a tough month for me. My son's b'day and my best friend's kid b'day. Yule and xmas.
Then in the spring, we can all get together for "BIG NE meetup".
What is everyone's thoughts?

Is that like on the coastal side of Mass?
Yes, it is south eastern Massachusetts. Route 44.
In the town of Raynham.
I need to go down to that area today so I will see what other stores are nearby.--Landmarks to go by.
I think Valkie(?) had said it was near rt 24 and papa ginos restaurant.
RT 44 is a vertiable parking lot of stores.

first off, there are 2 DnDs in that one mile strip. Silko is actually right in between the two of them... so I don't know which one you're thinking of. The one that we are talking about is the one that is right off of rt 24. toward Taunton.
Honestly, I forget the exit number. Like I said, rt 44 toward Taunton. You can see the sign for DnD when you first get off the highway. It's only around 5 buildings down from the street that goes to the Raynham Flea Market. If you want to map it, 44 is actually called Cape Highway in Raynham.
Kady... it's quiet a haul from Pittsfield. Probably a good 3 hours.
Jackiedanielz
November 15th, 2004, 10:10 AM
Its exit 11, off of Rt 24.
Once you get off the exit there is a set of lights with Chili's on your right and a Hess gas station across on your left. Dunkin's is right up on your right (just past Papa Gino's)
You know you've gone to far if you pass a McDonald's on your left & pass Shaw's on your right.
Anyways, I plan on handing out my cell phone to those lucky people that want to come & have no clue where they are going.
So this is Sunday 11/21. Did we set a time yet?

Jackie posted all the landmarks before I could! :atantrum:
The DUNKIN DOUNUTS is right across the street from a Boston Market plaza!
I think the section is called "New Cape Highway", but sometimes maquest will not pick on street names.
I just know it as ROUTE 44.
Jackie--does it have a proper name?
Getting psyched----looking forward to meeting all of you!! :huddle:
Think we should go private messages to find out what kind of cars we drive and all that.
Can someone post a map for those coming from the western side of Mass and CT? _wiz_

November 15th, 2004, 02:45 PM
Arg....I lied. It's exit 13 off of 24. (13B West towards Taunton if your coming from 24S)
Its actually New State Highway but Maquest calls in Route 44, believe it or not.
Here's a link to the map (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&countryid=US&addtohistory=&searchtype=address&cat=&address=235%20Route%2044&city=Raynham&state=MA&zipcode=02767%2d1443&search=%20%20Search%20%20&searchtab=address). The only address I know on 44 is Bickford's which is past Dunkin's if your coming off of 24 so as soon as your off the highway its on your right after the 1st set of lights.

_whistle_

For those who dont know, i am AW's other half.
to let you know exactly where we are, we are in New Bedford -- 30 mins east of Providence along the shore, an hour south of Boston, Worcester is about 45 mins, Cape cod is 20 mins or so, etc etc.
We are about two miles off a major highway (rt195) which connects to both 495 in MA and to 95 in RI.
If one were coming from NH, you'd go to MA and pick up 495, then take it all the way to within about 15 miles of us (rt 195 from there). Its about 140 miles from Hampton Beach.
Or if youre more towards Manchester youd go down 93 to Boston and continue from there.
Hope that helps you locate us!

crawl out of our hovels????? THAT sounds to much like the Voldimorts of Salem crawling out of their coffins :nyah:
Anyway I think a MW meetup this year would be a MUCH needed get away for us here in Maine and Salem sounds like an ok place. Might I suggest ummmm ohh:idea: Winter Island  Blue Moon we can get the Council of Elders there too. And YES I mean the real one not that bogus thing.

Nah, we would'nt want anything "bogus" there...
Well, New Englanders, what do you think? I have a sketchy idea in mind, for a possible warmer weather gathering, a picnic, perhaps. Two places that come to mind are, like Prophecy mentioned, Winter Island in Salem-which also has grills, picnic tables, and bathhouse available in warmer weather.

Another spot could be Salem Willows-

I know Salem is a schlep for a lot of you....does anyone else have some suggestions? Perhaps someplace in southern New Hampshire? I *think* that'd be about center for people coming north from RI, south from Maine, or east from western Mass....

What about us poor lonely souls in Connecticut?

Well any place not on public transportation or on the train would be a "sclep" for me, so Salem is not a problem.
