I want to organise a UK meet up soon but i need to know how many people are intrested!!

*Rain*
October 11th, 2004, 06:07 PM
I'd be up for it, depending on when and where etc. Problem is we are all pretty far flung so it's hard to choose somewhere accessible to all.

Abren
October 11th, 2004, 06:33 PM
If it was near me, because being 14 i can't go very far from home, i would interested.
I'd have to ask though, can i bring all a friend, because i don't think my Dad would let me if i was going along alone. age thing again. being 14 sucks

I'm up for it, make the place to meet up somewhere central in the country where its easy to get to

*Rain*
October 12th, 2004, 07:00 AM
I've been a bad poppet and have put this in Bored and British as well so it gets seen.

A meetup is something that has come up time and tima again and always ends up getting forgotten about because we are so far flung etc. I don't know what Kyra had in mind but a few suggestions.

Have it somewhere central and easy to get to - I know a lot of people are from Birmingham so it seems like a good idea to have it there.

Have it at the weekend - A lot of peole work during the week so how about making it a Saturday, starting during the day.

Age group - Abren has pointed out that she's only 14 so we need a venue that is accessible to all and easy to find. I've been trying to think of somewhere that we can sit as a group for an amount of time and a pub seems like the most obvious venue. One thing I thought about was somewhere like a Wetherspoons or somewhere similar that is child friendly (not calling you a child hon), that way the older bods can 'chaperone' the younger ones if you like. Also it's pretty cheap for both food and drinks. I thought about somewhere like Pizza Hut but you tend to get pushed out once you've eaten.

Bringing other people - again Abren mentioned about bringing a friend, I don't have a problem with this at all and it makes sense if anyone is worried about meeting the bunch of loons that we are. Something else I thought about was perhaps if there are some of the younger ones amongst us having problems with parents etc, I know i'd be willing to have a parent come along to check us out or give me a call beforehand to have a chat about it.

Good Idea Rain, I think that a Saterday would be good but i would need alot of notice so that i could book the day off work!

Abren
October 12th, 2004, 01:26 PM
I hope nobody was offended by me asking to bring a friend, i know you are all nice people and stuff but if we do arrange this i will have to a) behave for at least 2 weeks before hand and b) do a lot of persauding. If i take a friend i just think there is more likelyhood of him Finally agreeing

teishabee

Who cares if were offended. Its good to see people being responsible.

*Rain*
October 12th, 2004, 01:43 PM
Abren, it's perfectly understood why you would want to. Parents can be a bit funny at times. We've been talking about it some more in Bored and British and we are trying to come up with a plan that will definitely include you. We are planning on meeting in Birmingham centre on a Saturday in a restaurant so hopefully that will help with the persuading.

Birmingham's good, i can get there on the bus and train. so long as i read the timetable for the trains, last time i tried to go to Leamington Spa and ended up just outside Birmingham

I think this one is actually going to happen but there have been no dates confirmed yet. How about either the 20th or 27th November? Both Saturdays, that way people can book time off work and so on.

Aelfoak suggested a restaurant - Jimmy Spicey's on Broad Street, he says it's about £12 for all you can eat Chinese/Indian. You don't usually have to pay for kids to eat in that sort of place. If that seems a bit expensive for anyone then shout up and we'll have a rethink.

Any other ideas for a venue, or somewhereto move onto after the restaurant then chuck them in.

I'm sure we'd all love to meet the little ones.

*Rain*
October 13th, 2004, 05:02 PM
How about people post dates that they can't make it and then a date can be chosen that everyone can come on.

Can't do 4th Dec, and pref not Nov 6th as that's my b'day.

When i find out date of the school play will let you know, as the friend i want to be will be in it.
Also not the 30th of November, she is going to Blink 182 concert then

teishabee
October 14th, 2004, 06:11 AM
I cant do any time from october 31st to november the 6th. Mate is having a bday do and shes so last minute, so best keep those dates open for her.

Lanna
October 14th, 2004, 12:29 PM
ok my opinion is this.... someone should take charge post perhaps two dates and everyone say which one they can do, if both then say both, the date with the most people is the one we go for. there is always going to be people who cant make it and such and that might be me even, but if that the case ill just wait til the next meet cos if this is a success we are bound to do it again. :D

just a suggestion anyway

I still a little new around here but would consider coming to a meet a little further north when i know you all a little better. Not that i think you're axe-murderers or anything, i just hate the uncomfortable 'getting to know you' bit. Plus, i'm shy :bigredblu

Keep me in mind though!

I think seeing that some of us, including myself, will be a bit busy coming up to and during Samhain, i have made a list of dates below for us to meet up on in Birmingham, we'll agree a date first then the venue.

Sunday 7th November

Sunday 14th November

Sunday 21st November

Sunday 28th November

Please choose which one you would be able to attend.

*Rain*
October 21st, 2004, 05:39 AM

Right then, lets all agree on 14th November at Jimmy Spice's on Broad Street, Birmingham.

He is a link to Jimmy Spice's; http://www.jimmyspices.co.uk/home.htm

It is open on 12noon to 2:30pm on Sundays and there's plenty or bars to go to on Broad Street afterwards, also there's a special offer voucher on the website that can be printed off.

What do you think then?

Id love to come but dont think id be able to make this one due to shortage of the shiny stuff and paper stuff lol because Birmingham is a bit far for me to come esp if its a Sunday as the trains are all over the place due to engineering work.....Maybe the next meet up could be somewhere we could all get to both northerners and southerners ie London or somewhere close???But I know you are all gonna have the bestest of times :)and If i can make it ill let you all know sooner the time

teishabee
October 21st, 2004, 07:41 AM
yeah im worried about train times too.

amberwolf
October 21st, 2004, 07:56 AM
The railways usually do there engineering work on a sunday as there are fewer trains like last sunday there was no trains from here to london victoria but only a few to charing cross its best to check out sunday times hun to be on safe side

Hope you guys have a wonderful time. I won't be able to go, sadly, as Birmingham is too far away from the south coast. I don't drive and wouldn't be able to afford the train. Have a beer for me though. (those that are old enough of course :) )

October 21st, 2004, 12:24 PM
Ok guys I have this in my college planner so now I'm off to see if I am at all able to get down there. Unfortunatly I think it's a bit far from where I live and like someone else mentioned I have to rely on my dad or crap public transport which I'm not too comfortable on when going long distances.

Let me just recap. 12noon at Jimmy Spice's in Birmingham right?

Aelfoak
October 21st, 2004, 12:25 PM
Yep, 14th November, 12 noon at Jimmy Spice's, Broad Street, Birmingham next door to the Walkabout Australian Bar.

*Rain*
October 21st, 2004, 12:49 PM
BAH - i'm gonna get massively delayed by engineering works. Would it be a horrific pain to change it to the Saturday rather than the Sunday? It might make it easier for people. I forgot about the bloody trains being crap on Sundays.

Seren_
October 21st, 2004, 01:04 PM
I'm also reliant on trains, and not sure what I'm doing in the near future. But if I can make it, count me in.

Eclectic Celt
October 21st, 2004, 05:57 PM
Ok so here are my prefferances

I live in wales and I don't drive so the best place for me would be cheshire.
Also another note that may suite everyone is choosing a weekend like a Saturday or even a bank holiday because not many people work on those days lol

Birmingham is way to far, for me to travel as I would need somewhere to stay (this also has to be a concideration for people who are going to be travelling a long distance. :doh2:

Also is there going to be any entertainment? and how much is it going to cost etc to get into the venue?

Thats just my voice of about 100 of us in the Uk.

I hope it helped lol

Silver_FireStar
October 21st, 2004, 06:02 PM
Thats a very good point

*Rain*
October 21st, 2004, 06:11 PM
B'ham won' suit all perfectly, but if you do a rough demographic of the members here, then it is the most central point for all. If you instantly say, right then London, you instantly alienate those in the far north. If you pick Edinburgh, then it stops those in the south going. It has to be somewhere, so the more central point was chosen to make it a bit more accessible. B'ham also has a really good transport link.

There was also talk of starting to do more meet ups in different places around the country, after seeing how this one goes.

Silver_FireStar
October 21st, 2004, 06:18 PM
I can honestly say b'ham is not a place easy to get to on sheffield busses. And impossable from Barnsley which are both where I live, right on the borderline. I reckon we should have one in York sometime. Thats an easy place to get to in Yorkshire. So's sheffield (I love sheffields accessibility it's one of the biggest places in yorkshire my dad says) Both places are easy to access from everywhere. I have friends from Bedford, london, scotland and wales who can get to those two places easily. Just a suggestion for next time maybe

*Rain*
October 21st, 2004, 06:31 PM
I can't get there at all on a bus from Liverpool! So i'm going on the train, if you book in advance it can be quite reasonable.

If nobody travels then none of us meet.

I can appreciate cost is a limiting factor, but if you expect people to pay to go somewhere near you, then you have to be willing to compromise somewhere. Nowhere in the country is ideal for everyone but at least B'ham is central so more people stand a chance.

We can always start moving them around to try and give everyone a chance of having it near them, but it is never going to be on everyone's doorstep.

Eclectic Celt
October 21st, 2004, 06:40 PM
Liverpool would suit me more cause i am in wrexham which is outside of chester lol

So where were the other places mentioned?

*Rain*
October 21st, 2004, 06:51 PM
We've been discussing this for over a week now, B'ham was thrown into the mix really early on because it was most central to all those who were interested and also there are a few younger members who wouldn't be allowed to travel too far from home. It was chosen for being best for the majority.

http://www.ukguide.org/ukmap.html

rough member demographics (active)

Extreme north x3
North x6
Midlands x9
South x 8
Extreme south x4

Eclectic Celt
October 21st, 2004, 07:26 PM
Ok so what is going to happen when you all meet up? where you going and what you gonna do etc? I know your going for a meal, but is that just it a place to chat?

Sorry if that sounded weird, but It needs something to gather more peoples interests.

Cause how many people have actually said that they are gonna go to birmingham?

*Rain*
October 22nd, 2004, 04:33 AM
On page one of this thread there is a list of 10 people happy with Birmingham as the location, plus guests, plus children. People wanted somewhere to eat and somewhere to chat, as that was the point of us getting together, a chance to get to know each other face to face. We would then consider moving on somewhere else, perhaps a child-friendly pub or something like that, but nothing concrete has been decided.

What kind of thing did you have in mind?

Kyra Kismet

Well what as i was thinking was that some people may not want to just sit and chat I thouhgt they'd wanna be doing something.

So if you find they are feeeling this way why dont you find somewhere that you can do some divination or small spell work or something, just to keep it interesting etc.
Cause I would rather not talk about my life and listen to others going on about theirs (does that sound awful) I dont mean to sound rude

i'll probably end up coming to this, driving up from london so noon sounds great, means i can get home before too late but also worth the drive. B'ham is not an ideal location for me, but its never gonna be ideal for anyone right? even those in bham will have to get bus or soemthing. we are going to have to compromise to make this work and no matter what not everybody will be happy or able to attend, so unfortuantely its a case of 'deal with it and wait til the next meet up'

Anyway i'll confirm in a bout a week or so, does this place need to be booked, if so who is willing to do that?

Unfortunately I don't know B'ham so i can't think of any alternatives. Are there any big pubs that are child frendly or anything like that near to where we are meeting? I just read about your meet up! It sounds great. I wish I could come along but it's quite a long way for me. I would have been thrilled to meet some people from MW! Perhaps if you have another meet up somewhere further south I could come? I'd love to know how this meet up goes too, so please post your impressions of the experience.
