So, does anyone else here climb trees? Or talk to them? If you haven't, I highly suggest you try it. I feel safer up a tree than I do on ground... and some of the best memories of my life involve climbing trees.
The nice thing about connecting with trees is that they work differently than we do. Their lives are so much slower and calmer... they're so much wiser in many senses. When you connect with them, that calmness seeps into your own life... and you can slow down for a minute and just appreciate the simple beauty of silence, and deep thought.
So, am I alone, or what?

I chose other. I want to climb a tree :( I don't think I've ever spoken with one though :$ And I have difficulties finding a tree to climb. Though I don't think I'd feel completely safe in a tree though :$ Cause I hate heights :$

I used to hate heights... but trees feel safe, because I feel like... they don't want me to fall. I don't climb extremely high... well, sometimes I do, but usually I'm just 10-15 feet off the ground. It's just getting away from the world, in a very small way... just enough for me to take a breather.

I used to climb all the time. Now there's just one specific tree that I climb. It's a very special tree, very old, and very alive. When I take on students who I'm trying to help open up spiritually I take them to the tree. The way they react tells me a lot. The woman who held the tree and cried then sat in it in the rain for an hour was was ready. The girl who walked up and kicked the tree was not.
Everyone should climb trees whenever they can. Good stuff.

I have a tree like that. A very spiritually calming tree. It's on a school property, though, and the school wants to cut it down. :wah: I'll be *very* upset if they do.

We used to have a tree in the backyard of the house I grew up in that I would climb. Well I shouldn't say used to have, because it's still there, but we moved. I really, really miss climbing trees and I don't have any around here that I can climb. I do talk to this little Chinadoll tree that my mom has in the backyard though. I love that little tree.

Why of COURSE! I love going down to the woods with my dog and sitting in the branches of a tree reading a good book... it makes life worth living!
And there's a massive tree on a large patch of woodland sort-of near where I live. Whenever I go there I visit this tree and talk to it :). It's got dips by the trunk that are perfect for sitting on with your back up against the tree, and it feels like you're really connecting with it.

I don't climb (mostly b/c the ones around me are too young to support much weight), but I do talk to them. Especially to this one right outside my apt bldg. It just seemed to smile at me one day, and now I feel like I have a new friend!

I used to climb tree's all the time when i was a kid, but i just tend to lye under them now on a summers day. There's an Oak tree near Nottingham that is over 1,000 years old, imagine what that tree has seen in 1,000 years, amazing!

I talk and climb- sometimes at the same time  I adore trees and I have always been a mad climber- a little too brave at times (have the scars to prove it). I love the really tall trees, where you can get so far up that all the hustle and bustle is far below and the top winds gently rock you back and forth, while you have your arms and legs wrapped around the branches or rest against the trunk.

I don't climb trees, but I do talk to them.Yup Yup …. This would be me too!!
There was a time in my life as a child, when if I went missing …
Anyone who wanted to find me, would be looking up in the old trees.

This thread is begining to inspire me to go back to climbing or someting. Especially now with the fall colors, the trees are gorgeous.
I have very old trees all around my property...branches are falling all the time. I have a beautiful willow tree that overhangs over this very huge rock in my front yard. I didn't realize how lucky I was to have such a scene, but I think it's too close to the road. I'm not sure if it's very spiritual though. Perhaps I'm not in tune with the trees as I "should" be. Nevertheless, I try to find a nice calming tree in my yard. But the damn branches are too freakin' high to start climbing b/c the people b4 me used to cut the limbs all the time. :sniffsnif

Some months ago, I was in Woodward Park, located in Fresno, CA, and I came across a clump of trees I proudly christened "the Ent Wives". :hehehe: There was one old tree in particular, that had a thick branch jutting out from the trunk, making a sort of half L, half V shape...a perfect chair. _witchball Anyway, I could sit on that branch for hours, whispering to the tree. That was really the only one I talked to...she is something special... :loveydove

I speak and dance with trees. Up inthe mountains we see trees that are twisted as if dancing and sometimes we join in.
In town there is a HUGE old maple that all groups seem to gather around. on any given day(warmer months) there is always a group sitting under her it is truly a blessing to have her there .

I used to drag my pillow up there, too.
When I was in elementary school, we weren't allowed to climb trees. Everyday at lunch, however, my best friend and I would climb. Everyday we would get dragged down, and sent to opposite ends of the school for the rest of lunch, and the next day we'd be back blimbing. We never climbed high, though, and in the end they seemed to realize that we were safe up there, so both my grade 7 teacher and the lunchtime guards just let us be. :D We finally wore them down!

I have never climbed a tree in my life. :( I had to settle for the jungle gym if I wanted to climb, or sitting under a tree if I wanted to be near a tree. The trees at the urban park near here are not really climb-friendly, they're all either too small, or if they do have great branches, are impossible to climb up unless you're eight feet tall or have sticky Spiderman hands.
I don't really talk to trees, but they are awesome and I'll often sit under one and take advantage of the shade and the beautiful view overhead. They're really amazing, if you think about it.

I'm afraid of heights too, but I don't let it stop me from scrambling up a good climbing tree. It's almost a compulsion; I'll see a tree that's built for climbing, and it says something like 'climb me right now!', to which I enthusiastically comply. As far as talking to them, some trees are better for conversation than others so I wait for them to talk to me.
The trees around here are not good for climbing, unfortunately. The growing season is quite short so they only grow straight up.

I used to climb trees as a kid, but now I don't yet I do still talk to them. There is a humongous Texas Ash in my backyard (the reason I bought this house) that I go visit with regularly. During the early summer, a deposit of quartz crystal points emerged from the ground, right at the roots. It was pretty neat!
Incidentally, the reason I don't climb anymore is that I have developed a serious fear of heights, even though I didn't have this as a child. Not sure why either.

i have never climbed a tree. I have always wanted to, but my parents never let me, so i became afraid to. I am extremely paranoid about falling from anything, so i still won't climb a tree. If i could get past that fear, i would be climbing them all the time! I talk to trees though, my friends think i'm crazy.

When I was in gradeschool, there was this HUGE oak tree out back. We'd have recess and that's the only place I'd be. I loved sitting under that tree. The branches were way too high up to reach but that was okay cuz it's leaves would always shade me. Most of all I loved hugging the tree. I shared many emotions with that tree. Now I can't connect with trees at all because I've suddenly become afraid of everything. Even slugs freak me out. Sounds funny, sure, but you should see me when I'm around one. I start twitching and screaming and I can't even walk another step until it's gone. Things like this prevent me from spending time with the trees. Do you know of any way to get over these fears? Also, how do you talk to trees? I mean, is there a certain way like through meditation or do you just talk to them as if they were human? When I was in gradeschool that's what I used to do..lol

You know, one day when I have my own house I'm going to have a room built onto it just for my spiritual practices. I'm going to have a dirt floor with a tree in one corner and the roots spread across the floor. I'm going to make the ceiling really high so I can climb into my tree house to meditate or whatever. I think it's a neat idea and hopefully I'll have enough money to make such a place. I think I might even sleep there sometimes just to be closer to my tree.

I am so lucky to live in a rural area, we have 44,000 acres of beautiful forest right behind the house... I climb the trees like a squirrel, not uncomfortable with heights in the least. I also talk to them, my mom is very in tune with nature and always taught me to talk to plants...I don't really have many friends, but the people in this town all think I'm wierd anyway, so it's all good :).

I spend a lot of time with trees. In them, under them and walking in forests. Several people at work think I’m nuts because instead of sitting at the picnic table I eat my lunch in a tree. Climbing trees was a big part of my childhood. I loved it still do. I will climb up into a tree when I’m hiking to eat or take a nap. The slight bouncing and swaying is excellent for napping. I defiantly talk to trees, but I talk to just about every thing.
I can’t say enough good things about trees. I ware a silver tree on my neck, it was a gift to replace my worn out brass/copper colored tree I wore for most of my life. I have never worn a cross, pentacle or any other remotely religious symbol, but I will always ware a symbol of a tree.

I love climbing trees, but the ones around my house are all alders and Douglas Firs...either too small or the branches are too high and light. But I live about 20 minutes away from the Redwoods. Redwoods are amazing...not exactly climbing material (unless you're in for a tree-sit!) but wonderful to just sit against and talk or meditate to.

No, I don't climb trees. I hate heights. Especially if it's a height I've never safely been able to jump down before (plane rides don't count). And that's part of the reason why I liked Rivendell over Lothlorien in the LotR movies. It's a pretty place, yes, but my heart started beating faster just watching them climb up and I nearly died when they got to the top. That gaping hole. O_o;
I don't talk to trees, but I usually touch the trunks or the leaves when I walk by.

Oh yes, definitely both. Actually, I tend to prefer the company of trees to that of people. ^_^ I was a big climber when I was younger, but I still climb them when I get a chance. And I talk to them all the time. It may seem a bit lame, ^_^, but sometimes trees are my best friends.
Here on campus we have some great big oak trees that are just fantastic. And big old ginkgos, too. But I think my favorite is the old Scotch elm (the oldest elm on campus) that hangs over the path like an umbrella. It's where the campus pagans do all our outdoor rituals. We call her Sylvia. Not very imaginative, I know, but it fits.
I suppose the natural question that follows is: Do the trees talk back to you? If so, how? What do they say?

I chose "I don't climb trees but I talk to them"(thats not exactly it but close enough). Although I don't really talk alot. Just like one I was caressing a leaf on a tree and my friends scared me and I jumped and tore the leaf off so I apologized. I can't remember all the details but I talked to a tree another time as well. I did climb the tree outside my uncles alot when I was 9. But then he moved and it was the only tree that I liked to climb.

I would climb trees, but I am so Earth centered that I'm afraid of being too far from the ground, and the trees around me are the giant redwoods of Northern California. I do talk to them, though. In their awesome majesty, I couldn't help to 1) become more interested in magick because there is so much of it around here and 2) talk to the trees because they communicate with me on some level (still working out that one) and talking is a way for me to communicate back.

I have four big Oak trees in my front yard, and when I'm not in them I sit under them ans just talk! I even study under them when the wheather is nice, I think they would do better on my tests then I do! My Greatgrand Mother always talked to her plants and we have one of thoughs plants now, it is over 70 years old! My mom and I always talk to our trees and plants.........As a matter of fact we saved ten trees from being up rooted when I was about 9 years old, they were building a new brigde and trafic was stopped, there was this old Oak tree they grabbed it and pulled it right out of the ground. I have never cryed so hard and have never felt so sick to my gut nor had I ever felt so angry at anyone like that before! to this day I can still here trees roots screaming. To save the other trees from that fate, that night my mom and I snuck up the road and cut all of the bands marked them for cutting (or as I call it muder :shot: ) To this day they are still there all ten of them! I will never forget that and I will always save a tree if it is in my power. :uhhuhuh:

When you connect with them, that calmness seeps into your own life... and you can slow down for a minute and just appreciate the simple beauty of silence, and deep thought.
So, am I alone, or what?
Yes I talk to trees everyday on the way to work and the gym. I have atree in the house I talk to. Of course I also briefly greet squirrels and rabbits I come across riding my bike. As an advancing pagan I have tried to see myself and all nature around me as part of the same tapestry. Feels good.

I selected I have never climbed a tree even though I should.
I chose that even though I have climbed a Tree because the last time I climbed a tree was well over 10 years ago(I am 21 now). Further I feel that it is high time I start Climbing trees again. I also feel that I need to get into better sink with one of the natural worlds longest lived lifeforms(the tree).
Imagine the knowledge some of those trees could impart if the could physically talk :hmmmmm: . Well I guess we will need to settle for the spiritual enlightenment that can be given us if we can bring ourselves into harmony with those trees! At least thats one thing I am going to start working on!

Not too good at climbing but maybe soon I'll give it a try! I love trees, and have long before I called myself Pagan. They feel more aware then many are led to believe. And while we are on the subject of trees, did anyone here see 'The Two Towers' and get a chill run down there spine when Treebeard and the Ents attack Isengard for Sarumans horrid treatment of trees? One of the best moments in any movie every!

Trees..... The word kind of rolls off the tongue and makes you feel warm doesn't it? I love Trees. I always have. I always will. I do climb trees pretty often but not often enough for my taste but I think in today's society living in a tree and never coming out would not be fitting. LOL.
Talk to them? It only seems like the polite thing to do. They might be slow in their nature but they make up for that with the wisdom and love they hold for everything. I talk to them all the time. Sometimes aloud sometimes in my head. They hear either way.
Dawa Lhamo asked if they talk back. They do but to hear them you must be patient. Trees do not do anything fast well at least not fast by human standards. They talk to me both aloud and in my head just as I do with them.
Honestly some of the trees I know are better friends than some of the people I know.
There is one particular tree that holds a very special place in my heart. She was kind of like a mother to me growing up. She was in our side yard and is the kindest tree I have ever known. She especially loved it in the spring as there was a pair of birds that would nest in her top branches every year. She would start talking about them way before winter was over every year. I used to go back and see her well after I moved out of that house but now there is a fence around the yard and I know the guy who lives in the house behind and he said they were grouchy people that moved in. I probably should still go ask if they will let me go visit her. See now I am thinking about her and I will have to do that. (making a mental note to do just that once the holiday craze has past)
Well I enjoyed this thread a whole lot.
I am glad so many of you have found good company in trees as I have!
Blessed Be,

I don't talk to them, but I climb them.
I sometimes think I´m a 10 year old in the body of a 23 year old. I´m a kid at heart.

I don't climb them, but I do talk to them on occassion. (that doesn't always mean they saw something back though)

I am a tree hugger. I love hugging trees and talking to them. I used to climb trees, when I was younger.
