There is a small town in the North Texas area called Aurora.
Back in on April 18, 1897, S. E. Hayden, an Aurora cotton buyer, wrote a story describing the crash of a mysterious airship just outside of town. The poilot of this said ship died a few moments after impact and the farmer who found him decided to give him a "christian" burial. The citizens of the town gave him a flat stone marker (probably pulled from someone's field) with a crude "saucer" etched on to it. The stone has been long stolen and the records do not indicate which grave the alien was burried.
It has been said the town folks claim it was a hoax.
Was Hayden trying to revive Aurora? Or did it really happen?

Here is a more detailed story and map of the location: http://ufocasebook.com/Aurora.html

I wouldn't put much stock in it, to be honest. Lots of allegations, very little evidence - and what evidence there is is "missing".

excatly what i think. I just thought everyone would get a kick out of the story seeing it happened almost 50 years before Roswell.
