hehehe I was just scanning in some photos of my most photogenic hampsters (well, when they decide to stand still anyway... hehe) and thought I'd share because I think they are the cutest little fellas in the whole world! :)

Gopher - the little tunneler
(He likes to tunnel through your fingers too! Which is what he was doing here).

They are so sweet! :cutie:

Is it hampsters or gerbils that are more social? I know only one of them will get along with only thier siblings that they were born with.

Hmmmm, I've never had gerbils so I don't really know, but I think it's the hampsters that are more anti-social. Houdini is a golden hampster (aka Siberian Hampster, I think) and it is the Siberian Hampsters that are supposed to not get along with any other hampsters other than their sibs from the same litter. But Houdini is very friendly.

Now, Gopher, he is the eccentric one :) He is a dwarf hampster and has a bit of an anti-social streak to him at times. Then other times he is quite friendly, so who knows? I think a lot of it really depends on how much time you spend with them too.

These two get along pretty well, but they are hardly ever out of their cages at the same time, and they have separate cages so they don't "room" together :)

Here's a pic of Amber and Sandy, my little angels. It seems that Amber likes being in the spotlight, lol.

Gerbils will cohabitate with their siblings etc. happily.

Having taken care of someone's gerbils when they went on holiday and having started with 4 and ending up with about 20... :)

Lilu and Wiccan Maeve- what cute babies you both have!!

I am watching my friend's two rats (both boys, whew!) and they are just adorable. I am wanting to get some new babies myself, but am not sure how a gerbil/hamster/rat would get along with the cats and dog and kids...

...or do I really want one more thing to clean up after....

Awwwwwwww. Maeve they are little cuties too!!! I am going to put in one of Gopher pretending to "be the carpet" I had no idea he was so closely coloured until I got this photo back!!!

Chris, we don't have other animals, but I've read where people have a mixture of cats, dogs, hampsters and rabbits and they all seem to get along ok. We have our hampsters in aquariums with wire lids - seems to work really well, especially for Houdini who would probably just chew his way out given the chance in any normal cage. Also, because they are glass, if we had other animals, they wouldn't be able to reach in, or probably even smell them if the cage were kept clean.

Funny story...

Hubby and I were outside one day doing stuff, and Houdini had been in his ball running around indoors. I decided to see how he went outdoors for a change, so he's just wandering around outside in his ball, and our neighbours come visiting with their dogs. The first dog just sort of sniffed the ball and then went to bug my hubby (who is allergic of course), but the second dog, kind of sits there, tips his head to the side, goes up to sniff the ball a bit, but before he gets his nose near it, he decides that this is one disturbing thing because he suddenly backs up and paws at the ground in front of the ball and then runs behind his owner peeking out at the ball!!! LMAO

How cute Lilu, :).

Chris, along with the two rats my fiance and I have our puppy and three cats and they all get along just fine. One of our cats actually allows the rats to come up to her and kiss her on the nose.

:) Thanks Semele, I haven't quite figured out which of them takes after who personality-wise yet! haha

I think Houdini takes after me in some things, lol ;)
Gopher tends to be more like hubby. And yes, they do have very definite personalities. They're a lot of fun for such little guys.

Reanna, yup she's a sweet, but a trouble maker too, don't let the cuteness fool you, lol. Yeah, Amber and Sandy are quite the little busy bees. You should see them when they decide that it's time to wrestle. They turn into a ball of fur and start rolling around the cage, it's a riot to watch.
