View Full Version : Performed Last Rites for a Squirrel

While I was coming home from squash today, the kind soul driving my car ran over a squirrel scurrying across the street. We're quite sure we hit its head, so there was little pain. Had I not asked him for a ride, that squirrel would probably still be alive. In the death of the poor creature, I eat my dinner and prayed for the squirrel, and for forgiveness for the driver and myself for having done such a thing (even without any such desire).
I eat my dinner solely by a single white candle. I first blessed it in the name of the Divine, then lit the same and called it to fire in the memory and love of that which departed from this world, today -- namely, the squirrel. I also did not drink during the meal, as an observance in respect for the squirrel.
I have not yet buried it. Just thought I should share.

That is incredibly awesome, nifty and cute.
But darling, it's definitely not your fault. Mistakes happen.

I've done similar things when my cats have managed to catch a poor bird or mouse. I always feel so terrible, but I make sure I have a nice chat with the creature's soul and the Divine and wish it well.

Cute? Why is everything I do and everything I am associated with the word "cute"? I guess I must be a cutie :) lol

I, in no way, think that you are cute. But it was very cool of you to honor the squirrel.

I always offer a few words to the Goddess whenever I pass by an unfortunate critter that lost it's "race" with a motor vehicle. Even though it's against the law (no fooling) I've buried a few little ones in the backyard too. Cars and little animals just aren't a good combination........
I think that what you did was very kind and honorable (not cute at all).

i will just say that was noble. to each his own. everything happens for a reason, it was time for the squirrel to go and time for a small lesson in life. :halohead:
