I was wondeing around some wicca sites and I found one that said that you should not use a used candle for any spell. Is this true? Will it mix up energies?

That's interesting...did they say why? Most books & sites usually recomend using a candle to help focus in spell work. I found using candles very helpful. I find it helps me concentrate better & sort of set the stage for the work to be done.

I have heard and read the same thing about "used" candles. I guess one set of thinking is if you are using a green candle for prosperity, don't re-light it and use it again for a different spell such as love. Although, I have used the same candle for tranquility (light blue) lighting it 7 consecutive days (such as a 7-knob candle) as it is being used for the same purpose every time it is lit. Hope this helps!

...well, in my Practical Rune Magic series in this forum, I recommend burning the candle 'til it's gone (or at least won't burn anymore).That's because, in this instance, the candle is the vehicle carrying the working (you carve Runes into it). If I'm using the candle to enhance the mood while I'm doing a working (& it doesn't burn all the way down), then I have no problem using it again.
But, I'm kinda cheap, that way... :T

I think the point, as mentioned, is not to use the same candle for two applications - it mixes intents and energies that have already been raised in the candle. You can cleanse the candle carefully for a new use sometimes, and it's generally accepted that you can use the same candle for the same intent several times (ie. relighting a knobbed candle or using it again for the same purpose).... just my beliefs :)

:p No wonder I was confused! I missed the word "used" candles! I'm thinking to myself...why can't you use candles? :rolleyes:
