View Full Version : What...is....THE POINT!?

The couple next-door is fighting....again. They do this almost every night, without fail. I swear, two things I have to hear before I can fall asleep. The coyotes, and Richard yelling at Ray or vice versa about SOMETHING. Now...some things, I think, merit a good screaming match. Those HUGE LIFE CHANGING CHOICES! But...fighting over...who uses more soap? I mean...soap....Of ALL the things they could be doing, and they dont even have to be PRODUCTIVE things, theyre fighting over who uses more soap. Im half tempted to grab a bar of Dove, wing it out the window into thier living room and yell "HERES A FREE BAR NOW SHUT THE **Expletative** UP!" Carve little voodoo dolls out of soap and throw it on thier doorstep.
I mean...COME ON! Bills, fine. Pregnancy, ok. BUT WHO THE HELL CARES WHO USES MORE BLOODY SOAP!!? That Dove thing sounds REALLY good right about now.
*Ahem* Im cool, Im good, a little tired, but good.

LOL I like the soap idea, might wake them up to how silly they're being. Some people just like to fight and live in turmoil, some couples just aren't compatable (obviously your neighbors fall into this category).

Hey, if I could be sure I wouldn't hit one of them (assault), I'd be all for throwing the soap.
If they're doing it every night, or pretty darn often, and you can hear it inside your house... that's "disturbing the peace". You can call the police to help them understand why screaming about soap really irritates the neighbours. (Especially the ones trying to put Baby to bed.)

Yeah... these two have what you might call domestic issues. Sequoia has the right idea: call the police and let them know that this is going on. Who knows, it might save one of them from getting hurt one of these days.

I Love this idea!! Let them know you can hear them... this may bring them to a shocking reality...it's embarassing as heck to know that your neighbors know abotu your petty problems!

They havent been violent at all yet. Theyve lived there for about 8 months and it started about two weeks after they moved in. The neighbors on the other side of them usually call the police, but it doesnt seem to deter them

You know, there may be a bigger issue between them. Some people fight over stupid pointless things because they don't want to face up to what's really bothering them, kind of like misplaced anger...only in this case, misplaced fighting.

Err, if the police are called enough times, it becomes something that they can be punished for. Perhaps a night at the station would convince one or both of them that fighting over soap for the neighbourhood to hear just isn't a reasonable thing?

I all for leaving a bar of soap on their front steps for them to find in the morning.

I prefer faux voodoo dolls made out of soap....or perhaps just a muzzle with a gift tag left discretely on the doorstep :2G:

I'm so glad everyone seems to be completely mindless of the possibility that someone's life may be in danger here...
But that's okay. After all, thinking of constructive solutions to problems like this is nowhere near as fun as making jokes about soap!

There could be many reasons for the endless arguments..lack of a healthy way to communicate, control..??? who knows..
Many people mentioned calling the police ...
we all think at one time or another, wouldnt it be just great to ....?/ wing a bar of soap over ??whatever. . but I think everyone here also realizes the possible "other" side of this situatuon too..

It's impossible to make a conclusion like that just from some loud arguments. It may very well be that the yelling helps defuse the anger so that it *doesn't* erupt in violence. You can't really assume that every couple that yells at each other over stupid things is a potential domestic violence case.

I can understand your point. Lots of people argue, and it's nothing but hot air.
However, if someone gave them the benefit of the doubt for months on end, what would happen if one partner was found to be beating the other before, during, or after those arguments? Or even 'just' verbally abusing? Would it still be a "Well, they were arguing loudly, but how could we have known?" situation?

I understand that. But since none of us know the couple in question, Antoninus is the only one with the perspective to be able to make that decision.
I was responding to PB's suggestion that we were being mindless of the possibility. I was saying that we're not being mindless, but none of us are able to know one way or the other.

The couple hasnt been violent in the past, Ive never seen ither one of them with bruises on thier face or arms when theyre outside so Id be inclined to guess they arent violent.

:falloffch OK, the soap voodoo doll idea amuses me.
It's sad that they seem so unhappy with each other, though. My husband and I occasionally bicker over silly things, but it usually turns out that one or the other of us is just tired or stressed or hungry. As soon as we realise it, we stop. Hopefully they're just going through a rough patch right now!
