Ok, so... http://mysticwicks.com/images/smilies2/scratchchin.gif hypothetical situation:
You're a major insomniac like me, tired yet can't sleep and have nothing to do. You're bored out of your mind. You live in the country, so it's not like there's a Starbucks anywhere near. What to do?!
What do you do in this kinda situation? http://mysticwicks.com/images/smilies2/hmm.gif
Happens here quite often. http://mysticwicks.com/images/smilies2/twitch.gif Ahh! Help, it's driving me mad! http://mysticwicks.com/images/smilies2/sneeze.gif
Any suggestions? http://mysticwicks.com/images/smilies2/bgbiggrin2.gif

 I live in the deep south, so basements dont exist here - just a really nasty attic in this old house.

For insomniacs - Sounds daft but eat some toast and then go to bed. There is something in carbs that combats the chemical that causes insomnia, so something light like toast won't be hard to settle that soon to sleeping.

LOL@ Lady Trinity
When I can't sleep ...
I write .. or get on line and research info. for stuff I'm writing.
Or I come to MW so I can write ... and have people write back ...LOL
Sometimes I write letters ...
Or I write new songs .. or I write new poems .. or I write a new short story.
If I'm in a business frame of mind ...
I write out a new goal list ... or I write / or update a business plan
I write lists ... All kinds of lists!!
I write nonsensical stuff ....
And if all else fails ….
And I can’t think of anything else to do …
I write!! :rollingla

So you're a writer! Would never have guessed.
I love to write, but.. Having to write two or three essays per week (or two) can be tiring for the mind. (College, w0o!) Good idea though, when I feel like using my brain. Lol

And as for the bread idea.. Not a bad one! I know the insomnia-fighting carbohydrate all too well. So do my thighs and tummy, though.

Thanks, I have the munchies, but i'm wide awake still.
I try reading in bed as well, that makes my eyes tired and the rest follows suit. Just don't pick a particularly exciting book! Try something like Jane Austen where the language makes you think about it a bit more, that tends to tire the mind.

I understand after reading the "MW Faces" thread .. *wink*
Sometimes ...
If I really want to try and sleep for what ever reason ...
I will drink a hot cuppa chamomile tea .. and pop a video, or DVD in.
One that's really happy, that I've seen about 8 million times does the trick.
Something like Willow .. or Darby O'Gill and the Little People .. any of the Disney movies.

OOOOOOO, I know all about this. Been going through it for decades.
Right now I am sooooo tired, but I can't get to sleep. We are moving next door (long story), anywho I usually put on a movie and do some stitching. When that doesn't work, I get on the net with MW.
I usually fall asleep somewhere between 4 and 7 AM. I really dislike nights like that!!!

Woo, those awesome sleeping habits so sound like mine! Yeah.. drawing gets old, writing gets old, and gave up stitching a long time ago. Did I mention I'm ADHD?

And as for reading, that's another one of my favorites for the insomniac mind. I've used reading as a sleep-disorder tool for years, but sometimes it just doesnt cut it. I guess that's when I pull out a book like the Silmarillion. :hehehehe:

LOL when I was in college and couldn't sleep I would open up a book for a class that had the dryest reading ever.It worked like a charm would put me right to sleep. :jawdrop:
