There might be something wrong with the stove, you might want to get it looked at. We have a gas stove now and I've never been able to smell it.

that sounds scary to me Lady Trinity.
I have always had a gas stoves ... where ever I lived.
And the only time I've ever recalled any sort of gas smell ...
It was because something wasn't quite right.
Not that I really know anything ...
But here's me thinking that you NEED to have someone check that stove out.
Just to be on the safe side

You shouldn't be able to smell the gas, even when you are cooking on the stove, and if you can, there is something wrong somewhere. I've got a really sensitive nose when it comes to gas, and can walk into a house and say, "You've got a pilot light out". That is the first thing you should check if you smell gas. Pilot lights can be very touchy and the slightest draft has a tendency to extinquish them, causing gas to "leak" out. They are pretty easy to light, a match or a lighter usually does the trick, unless they are the ones with automatic starters, then there is usually a button you push in, or you can refer to the manual for the stove. Hope this helps!

I would suggest you get this checked out as quickly as possible--I'm with the others, sounds like you might have a leak or something.

Yeah, what everyone else has said - get it checked out. Burning gas should leave no smellable remains.

Do you smell gas even when your not cooking? In any case, you should turn off the gas supply to the stove until you get it looked at. Just to be safe.

Oh good! I'm not the only one that loves the gas station smell!
I confess, I had a boyfriend a few years ago who worked on the new power plant they put in. He would get off work and be covered in grease and diesel. He was a fabulous lover, and now, every time I walk down the oil isle I get hot!!!:hehehe:

There should not be any smell from a gas oven, as the gas is burned up... if there is a smell of gas, it means there is a leak of gas which then is not burned up. That could be really dangerous. You need to get it checked out.

Natural gas does not smell when you cook with it. The only time you will smell it is if there is a leak.
You MUST get this checked immediately. It could possibly be leaking throughout your house, and there's a chance that if you went to light a candle or there was a spark, if enough had leaked and built up, it could cause a small explosion.
Get it checked immediately!

My thoughts exactly don't light that stove again until it is checked.. I have cooked on Gas ranges all my life and the only time you ever get an odor is when something is not connected correctly. Get it Checked things like this are scary and can cause quite a catastrophe.

While you are waiting for the gas company or whoever to come and check it out, you should probably open some windows to make sure there is lots of ventilation. The gas can make you sick. If you sleep in a closed up house or apartment with a gas leak it can kill you.
I understand the symptoms are often like getting a cold or the flu. Get lots of fresh air in your home to make sure you're not poisoning yourself or your family.

I agree, the only time I've ever smelled the gas in my stove was when the pilot light went out.

Well when I first turn on the stove, it take a second for the flame to ignite and there is a slight gas smell. Maybe you have the same thing and are very sensitive to it?
