View Full Version : black...well...THINGS

I have always been hesitant to broach this subject with any Pagan, as, (for some reason), it fills me with the most bizarre guilt (more the territory of another faith, eh?).
Once, while being tucked into bed as a child, I saw a black figure - a SOLID figure, almost like a silhouette: tall, slim, and most assuredly male - walk through our hallway behind my mother, into my parents bedroom, and disappear.
For years my father claimed that this incident was a dream. That is, until I hit twenty-four and he agreed that it had been real but had no further information about the event or the nature of the "entity" to share.
Other than the physical appearance, the only way I can describe this, ummm, THING, was that it gave off a feeling of absolute dignity and, well, cold, aloof power.
I have met one other person - a girl from the same area as myself - who claims to have seen something like this.
Since my first involvement with "the Occult", I have searched every avenue (from the Bible to the writings of Zoraster) for even a clue as to what this may have been, but every possible answer seemed just a little too "pat" to be anything but wrong.
Does anybody out there have any idea what this was, or some inkling as to where I may find more fruitful answers?

I used to see a being similar to this myself actually when I was quite young. My mother told me that is was my guardian angel. From time to time, if I turn suddenly I see it still. I guess it is True that our Gaurdian stays with us always. Even though sometimes we may not know it.

While you said what it felt like you neglected to say how you felt. Were you frightened? Did you feel safe? menaced..... This information may also give a clue into the entity.

Not frightened - more respectful and curious. I went into the bedroom in search of it and could not find it (ie, the disappearance).
No, fear was not a factor, unless one could count the awe a child fells for it's elders.

Also, read that "fells for it's elders" as "FEELS for it's elders!

Then a Gardian is most likely right Sunsong may have hit the nail right on the head. I have never seen what you have described so I don't know first hand. I know I have spirits around me but rarely do I see proof of them. We aquired a ghost from our last apartment that has been invited to move with us again but I have never seen a guardian.

I like the guardian explanation also, as I have always felt Protected.
The guardian aspect also feels right in relation to the feelings engendered when I saw this being...It also may interest one to know that I have a congenital heart murmer and was not expected to live as an infant, and this incident occured when I was approximately 9 - 11 years in age.
Thanks so much for everyones interest - I have only been able to talk about this to three other people before, and I have always been afraid that I would be shunned by the community at large if they knew "My Secret".

I see "black" kind of people shaped shadows. It is hereditary in my family. In the house I grew up in there were two, an adult male going in only one direction down the hall and a small boy playing in the hallway.
I've seen tv shows on ghosts and that seems the most likely explaination. On the other hand I believe they are more like "memories" or things that happened that do not want to go away.
My mother and at least one of my sisters has also seen them. We lived in an old house. When I was little I used to have night terrors. I slept in the room where the walking one dissapeered. We didn't talk about it and my sister never mentioned it till recently. I at least don't get any feeling from these entities.
So my duaghter has night terrors, not normally very intense, untill we moved into this old house. There I saw a shadow that moved from the fireplace towards her room. When we moved out of there she stopped having them immediately, except ocaisionally. We live in a "ghost" free house now.
These shadows are most often seen from the corners of my eye. I feel something behind me and see it fleeing from my periphreial vision.
sorry its so choppy but I can't seem to begin-conclude thoughts today.

In my experience the only way to find out for sure who or what that was is to look within yourself for the answers. You are the only key to finding out whatever you need to know.

Isn't it interesting what we fix on? I wonder, did you decide that you must keep this secret because of experiences, or did something just "tell" you to?
I wonder if the subject is "taboo" for you to talk about- meaning too important to share with just anybody. You might have been able to break your silence here because this is the appropriate place to tell it. Does that make sense?
