I have been asked by my children if I could decorate their bedroom in an Egyptian style.
THis has proved to be an impossible thing to search out on the web.
I have been searching through 100's of sites but have found nothing usuable.
Does anyone have any ideas? Have you ever seen a room decorated this way?

The other thing that they have suggested is "celestial"
This has also proved to be a tough search.

I am finding that one easier to come up with ideas for, but I am still stuck.

I was thinking a blues and golds as the color theme, with accessories of moons, stars, planets etc.
I also found that you can buy "glow in the dark paint" which I thought would be cool to stencil moons, stars etc... on the walls.

Does anyone else have any fab ideas? Do you know of a website that may help?
I really appreciate anything you can offer.
Thanks in advance :):):):):)

Not sure what stores are in your area, but if you have Pat Cattans, Hobby Lobby, Peir one these are stores that sell craft supplies and oriental things for cheaper than department storesand have alot of celestial items in BRASS not glass since it is a childrens room and often if it is oriental brass it is already coated so it will not tarnish when touched. (india type is usually not coated) I too like celestial and have found the faces on the suns and moon are not always friendly on the terra cotta and glass items. Just thinking that could be intimadating for a child if the faces looked mean. JC PENNYS also has pretty boarder that is dark blue with the gold and stars and moons on it.

The ceiling could be done to look like the sky during the day with clouds and birds and use the glow in the dark for when the lights are out and if you use it in the white color it could be painted on in clouds by day so they only show up at night:) oops I rambled!!

The room will be so cool whenever it gets done, both themes are neat!

I have no ideas for Egyptian, unless you are able to paint a mural of a pyramid or hieroglyphics on the wall. Celestial is easier. Most stores like Zany Brainy or science stores have those glow in the dark stars and moon sets. Kmart had a celestial bed in a bag set on sale this week too.

Even if you got a plain blue bedspread and used fabric paint to add celestial/Egyptian decorations or airbrushed them if you know how....that might work too. You might be able to cut a sponge into that interlocking blocky design (yes, I know you have no clue what I mean!) and stamp that around as a border. Or stencil stars on the ceiling....

Ok I am rambling...Good luck!

Reanna!

What fun ideas for a room! WalMart has a great selection of celestial prints at great prices per yard. I do all my fabric shopping there for making herbal dream pillows. Have fun with it!

you could probably find some stencil designs, which you could then use to make "heiroglyphics" on the walls and what not.

I would suggest painting the room a sandy light brown color, with bright blue and gold highlights.

If you can find wall paper that features heiroglyphics, that might be good. if not, then perhaps wallpaper that featured some sort of sandstone brick texture?

You can also often find these HUGE wall mural things that get pasted to the wall at stores that sell wallpaper and paint and all that stuff, and they basically look like a scene from some place, like a jungle home in the trees looking over the surroundings, or a beach at sunset, etc.

They might have some sort of dessert/pyramid theme...

Check out your local Wal-mart-I am ser4ious they are carrying everything now from bedspreads, wastebaskets, showercurtains and tapretries and kitchen items in the sun moon and stars.
In the toy section there are stars and planets you place on their ceilling and at night they glow.

Along with Lucidia's idea of the sandstone paint... you could paint heiroglyphics on the wall. Sort of like the inside of a pyramid. If you really wanted to get creative, you and the kids could sit down and create the 'stories' that would be told by the heiroglyphics. Like stories of things that happened to them, the family, vacations, at school, whatever. You could paint pictures of a kings (Tuts?) sarcophagus (ack! sp???) on the kids' closet door. Around the entrance door you could paint protection/curse runes/heirogyphics to help them feel protected while sleeping. I'm sure I could come up with some more ideas if you like these. Good luck!
