Help I am seeking to
:smash: the cost of moving. Any tips are very needed. Also tips on prep work I've started packing and we move April 26. We are seeking all types of advice on this. 4 kids several pets in one truck distraction ideas would be great. Things need to be cheap, the budget is so tight the pennies shreek so expensive stops are out and we can't go buy a lot of stuff. Ideas for free showers along the way would be great we don't know if truck stops only cater to the rig drivers on those or if anyone can get one. If you know the answer please share. Thank-you everybody.

When we moved I had all my pets vet checked and got tranquilizers for my cat she was a lot happier and less stressed out. I also froze water in some bowls so it would not spill in the moving truck. I no money is tight but if you all do get a hotel make sure they will let you have your pets in the room. What kind of pets do you have? I might beable to help you more I have worked with animals for years.

dont they give those out for the kids too???
just kiddin... ha!
seriously ... the last time I took my sweet wee ones (ha!!) on a car trip we played alot of 'guessing games', I-spy, things like that... we would change it tho to "i spy with my eye something that starts with the letter... (insert letter here).. then we could give clues and such...(we were teaching my daughter to read at the time and we figured the letters would help) another is 'truth or dare' car style.. the dares cant be too outlandish and the truths are always much more fun :) also take blank paper and coloring pencils (crayons arent very good for cars) and have the kids make a book of all the things they saw along the way with pictures and or words.. and you can have a great momento to keep.. (when theyre done you just punch holes in the sides tie with ribbon or string and add a cover out of construction paper.. makes them feel great to have a book they made).
Ill try to think of some more things we have done on our trips today and post them later...
hope that helps some :)

Funny you should mention tranks for kids. When people ask me what else I need my pat answer is usually tranquillizer darts and a gun for the kids. I haven't had a vacation since I had the first one in 1989. I had a friend try to give me a night off last year but I made her bring them home the house was too quiet! I have a busy box I use when I take the kids out with me and I haven't let them touch their Gameboy in months so that should keep them interested. I'm just worried about when they get bored.

they will whine (most kids do) so you need to include ear plugs in the most handy spot you can find :)

(and there is always ropes and gags if it gets too much haha)

I've moved more times than I can remember. Best advice I can give is try to be organized, but don't stress it either. I made a BIG MISTAKE!!!! my last move. We had the movers put all the boxes into the garage thinking we were going to go get the boxes one at a time. Well, half of those boxes are still in the garage, I just found my winter clothes, and we've been here since last April. My easiest moves were ones where I put everything from the same area in the room in a box and marked it as such. Don't run around your house collecting all vases or all pictures if you aren't putting them in the same room. If you don't want to pay much, use Uhaul and invite your friends for a moving party. That's dirt cheap. Have plenty of hand trucks and dollies on hand to make it easier, though.
Good Luck!!!

We have a ryder reserved got the family size for less than $650.:D It's now over $1000. I've started packing and I've moved before but somehow all of my moves have resulted in pandimonium. I don't have my whip and chair handy to tame this circus so as you see I'm looking for new ways to do this. I expect it to be a bit hard but if I can cut pennies and pandimonium it will be a big plus. I had never thought to freeze the cats water and I've moved with cats before so I've learned something new. So even if you think I probably know that trick PLEASE bring it up. I may have forgotten it in the chaos or I may have never learned it. I really do want to thank everyone who is helping with ideas. If you ever cut a corner on something and saved money please pass it on this moving thing is an expensive thing to do.

Big Hugs to all!

the first good thing you did was rent from ryder, i've driven their trucks from cube vans to 18 wheelers and if anything breaks ryder is never very far away and their 800 line people were always helpful. good luck and blessed be your new house and all in it.

the truck stop showers will vary, both in availability and cleanliness. some truck stops say "truckers only" but it doesn't hurt to try, if you buy fuel there ask as you're paying for the fuel. the best chance of decent showers are the major franchises union 76 and that ilk (look for a big orange ball sticking up above the side of the road) union 76 restaraunts are usually quite decent too though the prettiest waitresses and quickest service go to the "professional drivers only" tables. sorry 'bout that.

For the three cats get a large pet crate so you can put all of them in it they will feel safe being all together. I also put a box lined with a trash bag and a little cat litter in it. when and if you put the cats in the crate put the cats in first then food water and the box the cats will go as far back in the crate they can go and try to hide so if you do it this way they will not make a mess in the crate and don't forget to put a blanket in so the have something to lay down on .

one of my customers at the grooming shop I work at put all her pets in the back of the truck, wich was not a good thing because she lost one of her loved ones to carbon monoxide poisoning and you have to also think about the cold or heat.

also don't forget to get a copy of their vet records.

I hope this helps Blessings Celticwish

If you're making a long move, and it sounds like you are, you can deduct it from your taxes next year. Keep your receipts and your tax preparer should be able to tell you what is deductable. I know at least the moving van should be.

If its possible drive at night. The kids sleep the trip away and you don't have to entertain them as much.

The other thing is stay positive! :D :D :D
We sow what we reap. Keep saying to yourself and visualize, "It will go smoothly. It will go smoothly."
