Before the class actually starts, I'd like to get to know everyone a little more! So, tell me a little about yourself, what path you follow, what experience you already have (if any) with candle magic, and anything else we might find interesting! I'd also like to know what you're expecting to gain from participating in this class.
I'm 26, and have been practicing Paganism in various forms for 9 years or so. The first book that led me to Paganism was in fact called "Candle Magic"!
I have a somewhat varried spiritual background. I was born Christian, and at 17 found Wicca, before long I knew that I was certainly Ecletic, and have studied various forms, from Wicca to generic Celtic, as well as shamanism.
I'm hoping to learn as much from all of you as you will from me!
**goes to get tea singing "getting to know you, getting to know alllll about you....."

Well i am a 40 yr old Single Mother that was introduced to Paganism approx 9 years ago, Acctully read my first book about that time and it was called "Candle Magick"
I was born into a southern baptist Family went in and out of Church until i was about 25 and then just pushed it all aside because of the hippocrates. and began just trusting the old ways taught by my old 1/4 Indian 1/4 Spanish grandmother, Met my 2nd husband and got told time after time i was Wrong for what i believed and i would raise my child damaged if i continued to do the things i did.. so i quietly went back into my closet... Got rid of him and came Screaming out of the closet and Refuse to be shoved back into it.
I hope to learn , and share ideas. Make many aquantiances and possibly some great new friends.

I'm going to copy and paste some of my introduction from another thread. (Already being lazy - oi hehe)
My name is Jen, I'm 26, married, pregnant with our first child and I work at home (well when I want to work - which is rare lol). My religious history is rather extensive, so I'll just try to sum it up. I was raised in a non practicing christian/jewish family (talk about confusing) and I've "flip-flopped" between atheism and agnosticism for, I'd say, the past 5-6 years. About 2 years ago I became really interested in paganism and the different paths within the pagan lifestyle. I'm still learning and I don't consider myself anything at this point.
As for my experiance with candle magic, I have none. I've read up on it but since I have no hands on experiance with it I haven't retained much of the information at all. I am extremely interested in learning about this and I'm looking forward to this class.

Hmmm a little bit about wee little old me...heheheh OK let's start off with the fact I'm a 38 yr old male, living in the buckle of the Bible Belt (aka Kansas City, MO). I originally found witchcraft when I was about 15, and mor or less dabbled, thinking magic was what you saw on t.v., I wound up meandering back to Christianity till I was about 22, then thanks to hypocrites such as the Bakkers, and a certain evangalist who need some ungodly sum to keep from being "called home" by his deity, I wound up tossing ALL religion out the window! Then around my late 20's/early 30's I found my spirit guide, entirely by accident, during a meditation, she (the being I refer to as the Grey Mother, picture if you will a HUGE grey mother wolf!) who brought me to paganism via her teachings. Well with time I have ever so slowly found my way to Wicca, and now consider myself an Odinistic Wiccan, mind you NOT a Norse Wiccan (funnyhow the Asatru tend to really get peeved by these folks...LOL  ). Now as for my Candle Experience, other than having read a little about Candle Magic (can we say Silver Ravenwolf), and a few attempts in grade school at candlemaking, I would really love to learn more....
Brightest Blessings,
WUlf Stormhand
p.s. Sorry about the long post...LOL

I've been waiting for this class to take off.
I'm way old 56, have used candles for magic, but generally as representatives of the God and Goddess. I've been a pagan for most of my life, but really never practiced it until about 15 years ago. I've been solitary all of those years, but do have friends in far places that I sometimes get together with to do sabbats.
I've been looking forward to the class a I really want something simple and easy to do, that is quick to prepare for.
Thanks for taking this one Vixen.

Ok. Mine is partially pasted from another thread as well. I've been pagan for 5 years, started out Wiccan but now my path is best defined as Eclectic Pagan Witchcraft with mostly Celtic and Norse influences. After tomorrow I'm taking a break from school for two months before I start again in January so I might as well take the time to learn some new stuff.
Now on to my history with candles. It was quite natural to use candles early one in my practice as I've always been a major pyro. Most of my knowledge is rather intuitive with a little knowledge from books. I use candles ALOT in my magick. But I certainly don't know everything plus I saw that one of topics is candle making which I'd really like to do.

hello all
first let me say, i am pleased to meet all of you. and romani vixen, i think that this introduction idea is a really good one.
I am 22 years old. i have been studying world religions since i was in high school (and now it is my major in uni!), but i never really thought i would be religious myself. about a year ago i started voraciously reading and learning about paganism and have decided that this is the path i would like to follow. in terms of a specific path - lets just say i dont discriminate ;) i am very much eclectic. if i find a practice that fits with my beleifs i see if i can incorporate it into my spiritual work.
I have a lot of experience lighting candles and appreciating them - but very little candle magic experience. the very first spell i ever did was with a candle, but i havent made another attempt since then. I guess the idea of candles for magical purposes is a bit confusing to me and that is one of the main reasons i wanted to take this class. I would like to incorporate candle magic into my work beacause i see it as a beautifully simple act that i would like to do more often. turning a mundane act into something sacred.

Hi Everyone! My name is Erin and I'm 26. I have just recently gotten into paganism and wicca, but have been intrigued since high school. I grew up in a non-religious family...my dad was atheist and my mom was a non-practicing jehovah's witness...strange mix, huh? Anyway, this class sounds awesome and a great way to get into the groove of magick.

Well, first off I want to say how much I have looked forward to taking a candle magick class. I've read about it off and on and recently bought a book on candle magick (The DJ Conway one, which wasn't bad) and ever since then, I've been hooked on learning more.
I'm 26, was raised Catholic for about a 3rd of my life, and when I was around 10, I stopped going to church. For awhile, I didn't really have any form of spirituality. I found Wicca about a couple of years ago and kept reading as much as I could. I'm more attracted toward candle magic (obviously) crystal magic and incense magic.
It's nice to meet all of you and look forward to getting started :woot:

I'm a 19 year old sophomore college student...been studied Wicca for around two years in high school, then kinda had to go back to Christianity (Episcopalian) due to disagreements with my boyfriend. But now he's much more accepting, so I'm pretty much relearning everything I forgot. I'm really drawn towards Scottish religions and elemental magic...but I've always been fascinated with candle magic and always have wanted somebody to teach me.

I'm 26 and have been practising paganism off and on for about 8 years now. My husband wasn't very accepting of it at first but now he's realised that it's what makes me happy so am now trying to relearn everything. I've been addicted to candles since high school. Back then I had over 100! I also made my first candle back then and the last couple of years have been making my own candles off and on. I know very little about candle magick so am really looking forward to this class!

my path...well, I am a self titled "hearthwitch" because most of my magic and beliefs are held inside my home and family. I love herbs, candles, and all that is natural and have been lighting candles in honor of my dieties and for meditation and prayer, but would love to go deeper into it!

Salutations...I inadvertently added what should have been here to my sign up (yeah twas one of those blonde moments). A bit about me...I'm a 32 y/o mother of 2 boys (ages 6 and 7 (my eldest will be 8 in a few weeks)), remarried (my boys are from my previous marriage)...delved into paganisim off and of for bout 10 years...I'd start and then life would sidetrack me and I'd fall off. I was raised catholic and very active in church until I was about 18...then turned my back on everything. I reconnected with an old dear friend whom I'd lost touch with and found that he was on the path...and that started me back on about 3 years ago. I've made candles in the past and am looking forward to starting to do so again. I'm on a solitary eclectic path with a strong intrest celtic intrest.

Hello everyone! My name is Misty, I am 26 and married with a beautiful baby boy who is 16 months old. I have always had an interest in paganism, but have only just recently found my path. I call myself "Kitchen Witch" or "Hearth Witch" as my magic and spells focus around my home and family. I grew up without actually going to church or having a religion.
I have a base knowledge of the Tarot and am learning more. I am trying to learn everything I can about herbs and am even starting my own indoor herb garden.
I have always loved candles and am really looking forward to learning more about candle magic and how to make my own candles.

Well I am Bran and I am 29 going to be 30 in Late November, I am married 3 kids and my husband is realtivly new here to MW. My path is never the same long to really tell anyone what it is so I will just say I am still searching.

I'm 19 and live in Las Vegas. I've been practicing paganism for a little over 3 years, eclectic-I still haven't found any one path that fits me. As for candle magic goes I'm pretty unexperienced. I have a list in my BOS of what different colors mean, but other than that I'm lost hehe and on that note I'm expecting to gain alot here. I want to be able to understand and work with candles. And ...yeah thats about it for me
Looking forward to the lessons!

Hi, I'm Ailinea. I'm 26 years old, have been practicing Wicca on a rather eclectic path for 8 years now, but have never done much in the way of magick. That's my main reason for joining this class. I'm tired of being a practicing *Pagan*, yet armchair (albeit a good one) *Magician*. <grin> Most of my magick practice has been spontaneous which has been met with some wonderful results. While I've done some candle magick, I'd just like a little more instruction on the subject for a more controlled practice...and to get me out of that armchair! Knowing lists of correspondences haven't done me much good if I don't actually use them, you know? :bigredblu
Soooo....that's why I'm here, and I look forward to the class!
Little Willow
October 22nd, 2004, 07:14 AM
Where to start. .... hmmm. My name is Little Wilow, but most people know me as Willow or Will, any will do. I'm a 38 year old mother to 2 teenagers, 1 fella, 2 dogs and 2 cats. RhiamonButterfly sums up how I practice really well ... thanks luv. I'd definitely be classed as a hearthwitch. Everything I do centres round hearth and home. Usually in the kitchen. My favourite thing is herbs. I just got my diploma infact. Something I should have done a long time ago but never got round to.
As far as candle magic goes, I use it all the time. When you think about it, most people do without ever realising. We light candles for those departed in rememberance of them, we light candles on birthday cakes and make wishes as a child. It's something most people never think about, it's just a part of every day living. I usually use white candles, because they do encompass all the rest of the colours .... and they're cheaper *lol* but there are occasions when i use coloured ones. When i use coloured ones i go by instinct and instinct alone. Your gut tells you more than a book ever could. I also do the same thing over a 7 day period. I mark the candle off into 7 equal sections and burn a section per day. I suppose like you would a 7-knob candle. And I always carve the intent into it using a little white ended pin that I heat. I find using a knife a bit awkward and really quite messy. If I'm doing a spell for a person I will carve their name into it and I also like to put their picture infront of the candle. if I don't have a picture, I like something that reminds me of them ... even if it's just an avatar.
So there's the bit about me. I'm looking forward to this class. *wanders off to print out exercise 1*

'ello, I'm Andrew, or CE, whichever you find easier. I'm 17, an art student going to a math and science school, silly me. I have been practicing paganism for about five years now. I was raised catholic, but always felt there was something more; Catholicism never felt right. I studied many religions, researching and such, and ended up mashing them all together in some semblance of coherency. I work mainly with runes and the tarot, though I work somewhat as a shaman as well. Magic for me is more will and energy than spells and chanting, though I'm looking to expand my horizon. I've used candles as energy points before, but I really want to learn about real candle magic.

Cats' mother
October 23rd, 2004, 04:53 AM
Hi there - this is a lovely idea!
I am a 41 year old single mother to five demanding cats! All very special in their own way and generally able to share their mother!
I don't know what "label" to apply to myself with regard my spirituality, so let's rather say I am still searching and learning. I was raised in a Methodist home with a barrel-load of love - which has made an enormous impact on me. I stopped going to church at about 10 or 11, then found there was a gap in my life and started searching - going to evangelical churches, more demure, conservative churches, and finally gave up when I found I was really battling over the whole Trinity thing. Then I discovered paganism and discovered that I didn't have to beat myself up all the time because I couldn't connect with the Trinity concept and that I could believe different things without being condemned to burn in the fires of hell! Wonderfully liberating.
I am a high school teacher, and have also qualified as an aromatherapy and shiatsu masseuse. I love the aromatherapy massage as I find that I am able to "read" the body far better than when I do shiatsu. I don't get much time to practise this however, as I find teaching is VERY draining and if I massage then, all I tend to do is "dump" negative energy onto the person - not a good plan.
I have always loved candles and a while back did the only spell I have ever consciously done - to banish the control my ex had over me. It worked wonderfully. I loved the description Little Willow gave concerning the role of candles in our lives - lovely take and makes so much sense. Okay - that is about all about me for the time being!

'Ello all :)
I am 13thChylde, y'all can just call me 13 if you like.
I'm married, mom to two children, eight and nine, boy and girl.
I live on a lovely piece of land out in the country, and have been lighting candles there for a long time now.
Now, every once in a while, I get off my arse and actually do a spell, and the ones that have been centered around a candle have usually had results that were close to what I was looking for.
I have a book, Exploring Candle Magick: Candle Spells, Charms, Rituals, and Divinations (Exploring Series) by Patricia Telesco. Hopefully, I can find it!

I'm 29 years old, I have done some candle magick on occasion. I don't have a lot of experience. I don't follow a specific path. Not yet anyway. I was born into a catholic family. But have never been forced to go to church or anything.
What I hope to gain? I'd like to learn how to make my candle spells more efficient by finding/applying the methods that feel right to me. I hope to learn from everyone's input in this class. And maybe make some friends along the way. :floating:

My name is Jill, and I'm 18 yr olds from Massachusetts. I have been studying under the love of the Goddess for 6 years. I grew up in a non-practicing Christian family, I have never been to church or been baptized and you will not find a single cross or Jesus related item in my home...At age 13 when I first showed interest in Paganism, my parents were alittle nervous but quickly settled down...My father too after learning that his half sister was Pagan, quickly grew interested in Spirituality in general and found himself making many trips to Salem with me for shopping (YEAH! SHOPPING!!!) Today my family is very open minded about my chosen path. As for the candle magick, I have read I believe three books on the subject but never actually tried to dabble...I'm very interested in candle magick and have even made some of my own mystical candles.
I'm eager to put my best foot forward in this class and learn all I can from it, and I hope to meet some life long friends in the process :sunny:

:bubbles: Hiya, everyone. I'm a 33 year old mother of 3 boys. I'm still not sure if I'm on any one certain "path", I think it's more like I'm treading two or three simultaneously. I guess that puts me in the ecclectic category? I'm mostly drawn to crystals and candles...I've read a little here and there on candle magic, but not much; mostly I've been going on intuition and all the little nuggets of info that I've gleaned here and there. :bubbles: I also recently got all worked up about bubbles because it makes me feel so relaxed and a little bit like a kid again. I'm thinking, maybe bubbles could be incorporated into my candle/crystal magical workings? I've never heard about it, but it seems like anything else, that I could charge them up with energy whilest I'm doing the candle thing, and they could carry off the energies and release it out into the atmosphere...

I am 23 and former millitary. When I graduated high school I joined the army and after a month in Kosovo and year in Iraq (including the combat phase of the war) I decided to get out. I had a book called The Witch's Magical Handbook that I liked because it focused on the science more then the mistical part of it. I got more books (Mostly by Ann Moura) and it pulled me in. I still follow the part of my soul that lead me to the army but I do it in my own way now. I am Wiccan by pagan path and have onyl had one experience with candle magic with a pagan group I was with up til it was shut down.
