The purpose of learning to do the secondary progressed chart (one progressed day per civil- year progression) is not only to determine one's own internal changes in life style, philosophy, inner renewal, and soul education, but also to monitor those times of changes due to external circumstances. The secondary progressed chart (known as "Secondarys") is perhaps the easiest to calculate because of the simple day-for-a-year conversion. Other forms of progressions such as Tertiarys, are perhaps more volatile in their delineations with transits to natal planets and house positions, but they do require more complicated time tables in order to convert them to civil time. The Secondary progresed Midheaven ROTATES one lap of the zodiac in one civil year. It is understood that some of the older texts on Astrology only explain Secondarys in terms of once a year RAMC change. But in order to benefit from the full extent of the Secondary progression system, one should learn to discover its full Astrological expose during the year, by calculating its RAMC position for any time of one's civil Solar year. Secondarys are mostly a Lunar-based system, that is they have more to do with emotions, feelings, and sensitivity as revealed, contemporary with, transiting planets that happen to cross the progressed angles. Once you learn how to accurately put together a Secondary progression chart, a wealth of Astrological education is at your hand. Because you can learn what the several planets mean, in a practical sense, by observing one's feelings and activities whenever a transiting or progressed planet or Luminary, especially, reaches the progressed Ascendant of the Secondary chart.

I have personally used Secondarys to determine the accurate birth times of people for many years. Every once in a while the Astrologer will come into contact with a person who does not know their accurate birth time. I can be rectified very simply by using Secondarys. For example, let assume the one becomes sick and unable to muster enough energy to do much for a few days. This is plainly a transiting Saturn situation. But when assembling a Secondary progressed chart we find that transiting Saturn is, say, 10 degrees above the horizon. This indicates that the suspected birth time is late, and should be corrected by approximately 40 minutes ( 4 minutes per degree). All birth time corrections are done by changing the MC of the progressed chart. It is necessary to change the MC position until Saturn is on the progressed Ascendant by using the tables of houses. This is because in certain places of the Zodiac, the Ascendant changes in a most irratic manner due to its 23+ degree tilt to the equatorial-eastern horizon. However, the MC is not subject to such changes. This accounts for some signs being labeled "short ascention" and others "long asension." That the short asension signs are very quick to transit and clear themselves above the eastern Horizon while those of the long ascension vairety take much longer to clear the eastern horizon.

A word is due about chages of location from one's birth place. These new angles should be included in all charts done on the individual. Personally, I draw them in using dotted lines while those of the nativity are solid lines. To find the resident angles, take the total value of the Greenwich RAMC and instead of subtracting( or adding) the LMT of your birth location, do the same but usuing your resident location, and then, by the Tables of Houses draw in your resident angles on the chart.
