Okay, I'm wanting to know more about my family, as I'm currently working on tracing my family tree. Before my mother got really sick, I began to ask questions about what she knew, names and dates, relating to her side of the family. Since her parents are no longer living. Only since I can't really ask her now, as she is in hospital and our relationship is strained at the moment.
So I got to thinking about writing a few letters to relatives who currently live down south in Collie. (about 2 and a half hours drive away from where I live currently) The only problem is, that after my mum's brother died, and then subsequently her mother things between my mother and her sister-in-law and family became very strained. And from 1998 we had no reason to visit them anymore. You see my uncle had two children with his wife, and they are married with their own children. My uncle's son has 3 children, and my uncle's daughter at the time, had one son.
Do you think it would be awkward (spelling?) if I were to write them and let them know I'm tracing the family tree and would like help? Explain who I am and so forth?
I mean its not like I was personally involved in the fued, and they shouldn't habour any ill feelings towards me, right?
I've got another cousin, living in perth, on the same side of the family, but he is not part of the immediate family. (3rd or 4th cousin) that I'm planning on contacting also, but my parents, have a better relationship, so I'm sure my writing him will not be too much of a problem.
Advice needed.
Ta

Go ahead and write. I couldn't hurt anything. Maybe you will get to know some family you haven't had contact with.
