Just wondering,
Is there a God/Goddess who is *NOT* of your pantheon, that you keep a soft spot in your heart, for?

Yeah, a few of the Roman gods like Faunus and Diana. I studied Latin at school which is what kind of got me thinking about paganism in the first place...

Hmm... not really. :whatgives Maybe Macha at a push, because she is what led me to my pagan-path, and gave me a push into the direction of the anglo-saxons.

Pan and Faunus maybe since they are similar to Cernnunos, but actually I dont have a set pantheon at the time.Being that I am a mixture of Celtic and Teutonic stock I am drawn to both Anglo Saxon and Celtic deities.

Hathor/Sekhmet.

Rhiannon! Because, we have the same name, and she was the first Goddess I ever came in contact with. I don't really work with her anymore, though.

Not sure...Probably the Morrigan and Apollo. These two are not right now in my pantheon but I feel close to them. The Morrigan is simular to my new-found Goddess Maeve/Mab and Apollo is Artemis'(my patron Goddess) twin brother.

Sure, I've definitely got an attraction to both Nehelennia and Kuan Yin and of course neither of them is Scottish. Nehellenia is a very localized deity of likely Germanic descent (though that is uncertain, there are some scholars who think she might in fact be a Celtic deity) and well Kuan Yin is Buddhist.

Always did have a thing for Artemis, ever since I was a kid. :)

Yep, Artemis and Eris.

I wouldn't call myself a recon, but I work strictly with the Greek pantheon. That being said, deities that interest me outside of that are:
1. Isis
2. Bast
3. The Morrigen
4. Faunus ( I don't see him as a Roman version of Pan, although others do)

There are probably more. But that's a quick list of deities that have captured my imagination and intrigued me!

see my question came from the fact that in the recon community, a lot is about sticking to your pantheon and the history of the culture you are "part" of (ie - the religion/culture you are reconstructing), etc.

i was kinda feeling like a "bad recon" for keeping a soft spot for Mother Mary (I even have a small silver statue of her on my altar). I dont work with her or worship her, but she has helped me & guided me in the past, and I just like to honor her on my altar like that.

thanks for your responces!

Ahh, I think the key is realizing that they aren't a part of your pantheon and if you do honor them in ritual form or prayer to keep them seperate from your other rituals. I personally don't do anything about my connection to Kuan Yin or Nehellenia, though if either of them were to appear and ask anything of me I would certainly do so. You just don't say no to a goddess.

Not generally deities, but I do honor Catholic saints, mostly out of honor for my ancestors than being drawn to Christianity. None that I feel for enough to start full-out worshiping them.

I have a soft spot for Set. In fact, I have a lapel pin that has been on my coat for about 10 years now that I can't even remember where I got it. I don't perform any rituals to him though. Just a nod to a job well done.:fpraise:

Right. Although not all of them have a pantheon as such. And in some cases, the culture being reconed was itself syncretist and was a fusion or melting pot culture.

Well, provided you are comfortable with it, she is very much a part of the later history of the culture that you are recon-ing.

....the culture being reconed was itself syncretist and was a fusion or melting pot culture.

What Nantonos said.

I'm assuming you, Morr, are thinking of yourself as an irish recon; but their history is never one of isolation or living in a uni-culture. They were always localized with other-believers (Saxons, Norse, Germanic Tribes) who'se different pantheons they would have been exposed to naturally.

As well, the 'Irish' didn't think of themselves as an ethnic nation (even now, really); they thought of themselves as a member of their specific tribe....this is why the recognised format for taking an oath is "I swear by the Gods that my people swear by". Not only were they syncretists, but they were also localists (if I can make up a word). A significant part of 'their Gods' would have been fixed to the place their tribe inhabited--their local hill, mountain, barrow, lake, spring, well, etc.

What this means for a 're-con' imo, is that a part of your pantheon has to be based in where you are and the Spirits there. As well, the Ancient Irish were people just like us and could surely appreciate the non-traditional God-Forms they came into contact with just as we do.

I like Kwan Yin myself. Part of what I appreciate, however is Her reference back to the Archtype (Mary is a part of that too) that I believe is universal. Locally, I honor Coyote but (see the localist argument) I don't think that is a problem--He fits in with Rabbit and Crow, who are more traditional.

Yup. I'm kemetic, yet I adore Hestia, and Lilith, and a few others. I see no fault in that.

I'm not quite a recon yet but i am drawn to Asatru, Kemetism and a few others, but i am attracted to some deities & beings that are outside the culture like some Voodoo and Santerian Loas as well as a few Saints, too.
